  • Been There, Shaped History: As it turns out, Roger was the one responsible for the death of Biggie Smalls by getting into an argument with a fellow driver. He also stole his necklace and gave it to Stan, convincing him it was homemade.
Stan: (looking at the necklace) He said he made this for me.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Roger's conscience is caged and dying of neglect.
  • Driven to Suicide: Roger's conscience kills himself by hanging itself with balloon strings.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Klaus may not like Roger all that much, but he still doesn't approve of Stan's decision to poison Roger just to force the latter to stay with Francine.
  • Gilligan Cut: Steve triumphantly says they haven't seen the last of the "culos" salesman. It then cuts to the man having injected himself with a lethal dose of heroin before falling out of a boxcar into a river.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Stan's immediate thought to getting Francine to focus more on Roger is to poison Roger so he'll keep being sick.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a reference to Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: One of Stan's co-workers tells him that he and his wife were Happily Married for a long time, but when their kids moved out and with no other distractions, his wife divorced him once she realized how "boring" he was. This causes Stan to panic over the thought of the same thing happening to him, so he sabotages Roger's development so he can avoid being alone with Francine.
  • You Bastard!: Francine says this to Stan after finding out what Stan has been doing to Roger.
