When I was ten years old, all I wanted for my birthday, the only thing I wanted in life, was a boxed copy of Doom II. Never mind that the game had been out for years at that point I was fascinated by it and would not be deterred. On my birthday my parents were shocked to find that I had actually received it, having agreed between the two of them that the game was brain-rot trash and extremely not for children, yet some sympathetic soul in the outer family had gone and gotten it for me anyway.
It took a week for my parents to decide whether I could keep Doom II or not. A week in which the box sat, mockingly, on a shelf in the living room. For a week, I stared at the box art and read the back cover and conjured up in my mind a game that could not, would not, ever actually be Doom II; “Hell On Earth: The demon invasion complete.” Demons and shotguns and burning cities and miles and piles of guts, just guts from ceilings to floors.
After a week I got to keep and did play Doom II, but it was Doom II and I had quietly filed away that seven-day long fantasy under “never gonna happen”, where it had stayed until last week, when it was published for PS 4, X-Box One and Windows under the title; Doom Eternal.''
DOOM Eternal is a game with so much testosterone dripping from its orifices that it caused me to create a son via mitosis! In this adventure, you play as John Doom, a man stricken with irrationally sever autism who does not consider or think through his actions and affects on other people, and in his quest to save mankind, kills God, God-God, and Satan God God, who is also himself. If this in-depth and engaging hardcore male gameplay sounds appealing, then I've got the game for you!
