What's the news that you like the most?
Who's your favorite podcast hosts?
If it's breakfast,
get your toast!
It's Skye, and Phil, and the Holy Post!
Skye, and Phil, and the Holy Post!
...And sometimes Christian/Caitlin!

The Holy Post (formerly the Phil Vischer Podcast) is a Christian news podcast hosted by Phil Vischer of VeggieTales fame and author and pastor Skye Jethani. Frequent co-hosts are filmmaker Christian Taylor and Seminary student Caitlin Schess.

The show includes discussions on news stories and interviews, often with Christian pastors or authors. (Though not always; they've also interviewed atheist thought leaders a few times)

The Holy Post provides examples of:

  • Affably Evil: While maybe not in real life, this is how Phil Vischer views his 'favorite Satanist' Lucius Greeves.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Skye commonly refers to himself in jest as "ethnically ambiguous".note
  • A Rare Sentence: Several, usually lampshaded with the phrase 'that should be put on a t-shirt.' Just a few:
    • If you bow in prayer to your fajitas and they explode in your face, it isn't Applebee's fault.
    • The crotch wasn't invented until the fourteenth century.
    • Up is down, left is right, we can't find our way, and the burger is a harbinger of the future!
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: One episode is titled 'Indiana, Religious Freedom, and Pizza!'
  • Audience Surrogate: Christian Taylor's professional background is in media, not theology, and she's a little more grounded than Phil; so she often asks questions or makes remarks the average listener would.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Phil.
  • Companion Cube: Phil Vischer's ukulele, which he calls Plinky Pete.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Let's just rename this trope to 'Skye Jethani.'
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Skye, specifically when it comes from within the Church.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Eric Metaxis was the very first guest on the show and a writer and voice actor on VeggieTales. Now, he and Phil are at odds due to Metaxis's politics and Phil's stance against Christian Nationalism.
  • Instant Web Hit: In 2020, after the murder of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter taking the front page, Phil put out a video on race in America to help his primarily white evangelical audience understand these systemic issues. He didn't expect it to go viral, becoming the most watched/listened to piece put out by the Holy Post to date.
  • Not So Above It All: Skye is the professional scholar to Phil's antics, but he sometimes laughs at the "News of the Butt" segments and is the most like to make off-color jokes.
"Phil, nobody wants to see your Veggie Tail."
  • Once an Episode:
    • From the Phil Vischer Podcast days: the theme song and closing song. The Holy Post still has an opening song, but as the interview segment is separate from news, they're spit in half by a quick promotion.
    • Phil is going to comment on Christian Taylor's wardrobe color.
    • In the zoom meeting days during the pandemic, Phil commenting on Skye's office looking like the Death Star.
  • Painful Rhyme: Earlier on, Phil came up with each episode's closing song on the spot, and it usually results in these.
"She's the very model of a modern modest matriarch,
She works as a voice talent and she listens to her patriarch
She likes to be on podcasts where we talk about the atheists
And then we... go to bakeries and.. we try all of the pastry-ists..."
  • The Smart Guy: Skye, who loves reading and approaches things in a methodical way.
  • The Spock: Skye's approach to his faith is primarily based in historical and cultural analysis of Scripture and Jewish and Christian scholars throughout history, over emotionality.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Skye and Phil, respectively.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Often Phil.
  • Team Mom: Christian Taylor
  • The Watson: Christian, the "layman" of the group, plays this role especially in "Christian Asks", where she asks Skye theological questions.
  • Women Are Wiser: Invoked by everyone telling Phil to listen to his wife and stop arguing on Twitter.
  • You Go, Girl!: The group commonly speaks out against sexism in the Church, actively encourages women to pursue Seminary and pastoral paths, and interviews women about their journey on these paths.
