Basic Trope: Swimwear that doesn't cover much of your body.

  • Straight: Alice wears swimwear that only covers her breasts and crotch.
  • Exaggerated: Alice wears seashell bras that don't even completely cover her breasts.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice wears either a sleeveless vest or a bikini that completely covers her torso and leaves the rest of her body exposed.
    • Bob wears a bathing suit that only covers his crotch and upper legs.
  • Justified:
    • Alice is trying to attract attention.
    • The only swimwear available to Alice is extremely skimpy.
    • How old is this thing again? Alice's lucky it's still holding together (what's left of it, anyway).
  • Inverted: Alice wears a full-body wetsuit that only leaves her head, neck, hands, and feet exposed whenever she's either casually swimming in the nearby seawater, teaching Bob (her son) how to swim, surfing, going for a walk on the beach, observing other people's activities on the beach, or laying down on the beach with Bob to cuddle him and help him take naps, and whenever she dives beneath the seawater to film the daily lives of various marine creatures, Alice then wears a full-body wetsuit that only leaves her face exposed (together with goggles, artificial respiration gear, and flippers).
  • Subverted: Alice is mentions to have skimpy swimsuits, but she shows up in either a wetsuit or a normal long-sleeved shirt, jeans, and bare feet.
  • Double Subverted: Alice then takes the wetsuit/regular clothes off to reveal skimpy swimwear underneath.
  • Parodied:
    • Alice was forced to buy the swimsuit due to it being the only one available, and is embarrassed by the attention she gets.
    • Alice loses the swimsuit, but it covered so little nobody notices, not even herself.
  • Averted:
    • Alice wears goggles, artificial respiration gear, and flippers with her sleeveless vest/bikini to avoid having too much of her skin being visible at one time.
    • Bob wears a waterproof shirt with his bathing suit to prevent his upper body from being visible.
  • Defied:
    • Alice goes naked.
    • Bob doesn't like seeing women and girls (including his mother Alice) in skimpy swimwear, so he burns seashell bras, bikinis, and other types of skimpy swimwear with a flamethrower on sight and leaves full-body wetsuits that only leave their heads, necks, hands, and feet exposed, other full-body wetsuits that only leave their faces exposed, goggles, artificial respiration gear, and flippers completely alone.
  • Zig-Zagged: Some beachgoers wear either swimwear that only covers their breasts and crotches or seashell bras that don't even completely cover their breasts. Others wear either sleeveless vests, bikinis, waterproof shirts, or bathing suits, and the rest wear full-body wetsuits that either only leave their heads, necks, hands, and feet exposed or only leave their faces exposed (together with goggles, artificial respiration gear, and flippers).
  • Enforced: Studio executives are well aware of the amount of fanservice that skimpy swimwear often provides, so they make Alice wear skimpy swimwear to invoke Male Gaze.
  • Lampshaded: "Have you ever noticed how women and girls often enjoy walking around in skimpy swimwear whenever they're on the beach?"
  • Discussed: "The reason why women and girls often wear skimpy swimwear is because they wanna show off their bodies to their male friends."
  • Conversed: "It sure is nice whenever we get to see women and girls in skimpy swimwear."
  • Invoked: Brittany gets Alice to buy a skimpy swimsuit and steals her other swimwear so she has to wear that to the beach.
  • Exploited: Brittany takes photos of Alice in her swimsuit to humiliate her.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice wears skimpy swimwear that also has writing telling people to look at her on it.
  • Played for Drama: While battling Emperor Evulz and his countless mooks on the beach, Alice wears skimpy swimwear to avoid being needlessly weighed down in the nearby seawater.
  • Played for Horror: Alice wears skimpy swimwear to show off her Vagina Dentata, breasts armed with mouths of their own, and other forms of Body Horror.
  • Implied:
    • Bob hears rumors about Alice always wearing skimpy swimwear, so he goes to the beach in anticipation of Alice doing exactly that.
    • "Is that a new swimsuit Alice is wearing?" "Yeah, her old one finally fell apart."
  • Deconstructed: Whenever Alice wears skimpy swimwear, Emperor Evulz and his countless mooks use the occasion as an opportunity to exploit Alice's lack of proper protection against their attacks, and once they manage to hit her, she quickly dies.
  • Reconstructed: But then Alice realizes she can also remove her skimpy swimwear and blind her enemies by covering their eyes with it, allowing her to survive and save the day.
