Basic Trope: Character tries to break their or someone else's fall on something soft, but misses it by that much.
  • Straight: Bob lands on his face on the floor, just missing the bean bag chair next to him.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is about to fall into heaven, but he's one Planck off and consequently is swallowed by a Kaiju with swords for insides and falls into a black hole and dies a slow horrible death.
  • Downplayed: Bob falls onto Alice instead of a pillow, so he's still fine, but it's very uncomfortable for them both.
  • Justified: Human ballistics is a tricky subject.
    • One of Bob's eyes is injured or out of commission at the time, causing him to misjudge his angle.
  • Averted:
    • Bob lands on a bean bag chair.
    • Bob lands aay from the
  • Subverted: After several minutes of cutting between Bob's falling body and the ground, a gust of wind blows the bean bag in time to catch him.
  • Double Subversion: Bob lands on the bean bag chair, and the beanbag chair flings him back up like a trampoline onto the floor.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob lands on the bean bag chair, and the beanbag chair flings him back up like a trampoline onto the floor. Which sends him crashing through the floor, bringing him to a metaphysical realm of pillows, but the metaphysical dimension keeper gets sued and needs to take all the bean bags with him. And then Bob becomes a pillow, but pillows can't sit on pillows so pillow-Bob is sad. He cries so much that all the pillow is sucked out him and he can sit on it... IF he wanted a pillow, but he doesn't, so he goes on an epic quest to... *PUNCH*
  • Lampshaded: "You know, it seems like the more I try to land on something, the less I actually hit it."
  • Backfired: Bob falls and bounces right back up.
  • Discussed: "Don't be scared, I'll catch you" said the known-to-be-sly Alice in a cheeky tone of voice. "Well, usually in an animated slapstick American cartoon, when the previously sly character says that in a cheeky tone, they don't catch you" replied Bob.
