"I'm so bad, baby I don't care"

Released in 1991, 1916 is Motörhead's ninth studio album. It marks the return of the band with the Rock 'N' Roll lineup after the four year hiatus in new releases following the aforementioned record. Although most of the album continues the band's classic Heavy Metal sound, some songs dabble with styles and instruments new to the band like the World War One inspired title-track, which is a ballad with the only instrumentation being the keyboards and organ accompanying Lemmy's voice, or the copious saxophone-shred across "Angel City".

"No Tropes In The Sky":

  • Badass Boast: "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)" is all about this trope.
"I make love to mountain lions
    Sleep on red-hot branding irons
When I walk, the roadway shakes
    Bed's a mess of rattlesnakes"
  • Break-Up Song: "The One To Sing The Blues"
"Listen to me faking even though my heart is breaking
Miss you now you're gone I'm the one to sing the blues"
    • "Shut You Down" is one too, though more in the sense of never wanting to see the other person again.
  • Homage: "R.A.M.O.N.E.S."
  • Horrible History Metal: The Title Track is about World War I.
  • "I Am" Song: "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)"
  • Intercourse with You: "Make My Day":
"Tell you what, you're red hot
Let's go do it in the parking lot"
  • Lampshade Wearing: "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)"
    "Overkill, walk the line
Kill the lights, it's lampshade time"
  • Miniscule Rocking: "R.A.M.O.N.E.S.", in the spirit of the band themselves, is 1:26. The longest song, "Love Me Forever," is 5:28.
  • Politicians Kiss Babies: Mentioned by name in "No Voices In The Sky":
"Politicians kissing babies for good luck"
  • The Power of Rock: "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)":
"I help the blind to see
    Shoot 'em full of R&B"
  • Record Producer: Ed Stasium, Peter Solley
  • Religion Rant Song: "No Voices In The Sky" is a Type 2:
"You don't need no golden cross to tell you wrong from right
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light"
  • Rock Star Song:
  • Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll: "Angel City"
"I wanna backstage pass, drink Bon Jovi's booze for free"
"I wanna get the crabs in my elegant rags"
  • Spelling Song: "R.A.M.O.N.E.S."
  • Take That!!: The hidden message in “Nightmare/The Dreamtime” says this: "Now tell me, about your miserable little lives. I do not subscribe to your superstitious, narrow minded flights of paranoia. I and people like me, will always prevail! You will never stifle our free speech in any country in the world, 'coz we will fight forever." "In a single stroke, you poor, stupid, running dogs. Why is it..." The message probably was an attack on the Parents Music Resource Center, who were trying to censor rock and heavy metal.
