Lovelyz is an 8 member South Korean Girl Group under Woollim Entertainment. It is the company’s first girl group.

Three Lovelyz members debuted as solo artists - BabySoul with Stranger, Jiae with Delight, and Jin with Gone before the full group’s debut in 2014.

On November 17, their debut album "Girls’ Invasion" was released, alongside the single "Candy Jelly Love". They had a debut showcase as 7 members as the 8th - Jisoo - withdrew due to complications, rejoining Lovelyz on August 27, 2015.

They are known for executing innocent/pure concepts in their music and videos.

Two Lovelyz reality series were released: Lovelyz in Wonderland (2016) and Lovelyz Loves Canada (2017).

Tropes that apply to Lovelyz

    General Tropes
  • Distaff Counterpart: To their labelmates and seniors, INFINITE, especially as they are Woollim’s first (and at this point only) Girl Group.
  • Fan Community Nicknames: Lovelyz calls their fans ‘Lovelinus’.
  • Genki Girl: Mijoo, who is known for her extraness. She’s energetic, loud, and enthusiastic about most things.
  • Genre Savvy: When Lovelyz can choose a category of people who can vote as a designated group on Queendom, they suspect that older ladies will like their cheerful music and pick the housewives category. They indeed get their vote.
  • Girl Group: A Korean Pop Music example.
  • The Leader: BabySoul.
  • One-Steve Limit: BabySoul and Sujeong’s names are written the same in Hangul. Thankfully, BabySoul uses a stage name and their names are written differently when romanized.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Notably averted. K-Pop stylists have often been criticized for having girls wear short, skimpy dresses that they are visibly uncomfortable in. The situation became so bad that the stylist for Lovelyz was actually praised simply for dressing the group in skirts that were long enough for the girls to feel comfortable wearing, and in outfits that were safe from accidentally revealing too much during performances.
  • Running Gag: Kei liking Mamamoo's Hwasa on Queendom. She quickly links arms with her even though they barely know each other, makes great effort to be picked as Hwasa's duet partner (she succeeds!), brought food for her and tells her how much she likes her every minute or so. Though Hwasa is a little more introverted, she shows her appreciation as well. She even talks about her in the final episode, though the duet part is long over then.
  • Smoking Is Not Cool: In August 2016, Lovelyz became anti-smoking ambassadors for the South Korean military, appointed by the Ministry of National Defense.
  • Stage Names: BabySoul, Kei, and Jin for Soojung, Jiyeon, and Myungeun respectively.
  • Team Mom: Jiae has been called the mother of the group, especially for baking desserts for the other members.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz:
    • Lovelyz
    • Alwayz - their second concert.

     Music Tropes
  • Caps Lock: 'FALLIN''
  • Cover Version: The girls have performed multiple covers, the most notable being their acapella version of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” which gained attention online, and was broadcast on the American Fox News Channel.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Their debut album “Girls’ Invasion” serves as this to INFINITE’s debut album “First Invasion”.
  • Instrumental: Muse on Music is an instrumental album with 33 songs on its tracklist.
  • One-Word Title: Frequent in their song titles, for example: "Hi~", "WoW!, "Twinkle", etc.

     Lovelyz in Wonderland
  • Adult Child:
    • In the first episode, Jisoo says: “Myungeun is 21 years old but she's still a baby.”
    • About Sujeong drinking alcohol, Jiae said: “Sujeong is 20 years oldnote  but she’s still like 9 years old.”
  • Alice Allusion: Basically, Lovelyz in Wonderland = Alice in Wonderland
    • The Playing Card Motifs, especially the little drawings of the heart soldiers
    • BabySoul and Yein drank ‘potions’ which had ‘drink me’ on them to switch their roles in Lovelyz, much like the food and drinks in Alice in Wonderland which said ‘eat me’ or ‘drink me’.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The Wonderland promised Lovelyz everything they wished for. This led to some problems.
    • Yein said she wanted to try being the leader. She discovers how hard it is soon after, especially when she struggles with talking to their boss.
    • Jiae and Mijoo said they wanted to become closer. Naturally, the show’s staff makes them roommates and later handcuffs them together in episode 3 and 4.
  • Big Sister Worship: The show’s captions regularly call Jin an “unnie lover” - which literally translates into “big sister lover”.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Episode 7 begins with Woollim telling them that Lovelyz is disbanding. No one believes it.
    • After Mijoo sees the handcuffs and reads that she’ll be cuffed to Jiae: “Bye! I never saw this!” after being filmed that she read it in its entirety.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang:
    • Jiae and Mijoo, to the point that the staff made them room together (both in the dorms and in Lovelyz House) and even handcuffed the two together to become closer.
    • Sujeong and Jisoo as well. Mijoo and Jiae returned the handcuffing favour so that they can also get closer.
  • The Paranoiac: From the very start, Jin is paranoid and thinks that something bad is bound to happen to them.
    • When she received the invitation, she threw it at the computer because she was scared. (the computer made a noise that scared her)
    • When they first arrived at the house, she told Jisoo that she felt paranoid because the house was too good.
    • When a surprise pyjama party turned up in their living room (complete with a set-out table of food), the captions said that she was very uneasy and suspicious of it.
  • Playing Card Motifs:
    • The rooms are divided into Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs. Roommates are decided by which symbol was at the bottom of their invitation - Spades go to Spades room etc.
    • Some captions are designed with spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs.
  • Power-Up Food: Bottles of milk - ‘potions’ - were given to Yein and BabySoul, which gave them the power to switch their roles in Lovelyz.
  • Swapped Roles: Episodes 5 to 6 shows BabySoul and Yein switching their roles in the group for a day - BabySoul becoming the maknae and Yein becoming the leader. Through this, Yein learned how difficult it was to be The Leader and BabySoul learned how hard it was to be the youngest member.
