Lesson One: That's not Earth. Lesson Two: That's not Unicron. Good luck.

Transformers Generation Selects is a series of Transformers comics written by Hayato Sakamoto, who also written the Legends comics. The comic itself serves as the Origin Story and conclusion of the original (Japanese) G1 continuity leading to Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo. The next comic, The End of G1, is the definitive end of the timeline.

The comics provide the examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: The manga provides more context to the overall history of the Japanese continuity.
    • Instead of being of the planet Cybertron, Primus was a robot from a previous world and the holder of the Silver Matrix. His pet Primacon would succeed in his ambition to restart the universe with Primus losing his original body and ended up in a robotic primate body Primacron made for him up and including creating Unicron, who destroys his body and Primus finds a barren planet that he would create as Cybertron until it was conquered by the Quintessons.
    • In Beast Wars II, The Maximals and Predacons encounter an ancient planet called Gaia, which is revealed to be Earth All Along. In 2050, the humans and Cybertronians live in peace and created a new transforming robots called Selectors. The humans discovered a new source of energy called the Angolmois, and grew dependent on it. It all changed when war broke out caused by the Quintessons that planned to create a new Unicron, and Megatron tries to draw the Angolmois energy into himself, despite Optimus' concern that it would turn him evil again. Megatron knew it would be the case and wants Optimus to Mercy Kill him. The Angolmois grew too so much that mass evacuation was necessary for humanity and the Cybertronians to evacuate Earth. The Cybertronians eventually deleted all records of Earth and it was completely abandoned, hence its current state.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Megatron starts a revolution for the Selectors, not a war. When Optimus asks him to stop, Megatron asks him with these words: "'Freedom is the right of all sentient beings'", no?" This causes Optimus and Spike to reconsider their options for the Selectors.
  • Back from the Dead: Remember Predaking's demise in Transformers Zone? The Quintessons used their device, the Recreator, and restored him back to life.
  • Big Bad: The Quintessons plan to use the Angolmois energy to turn Earth into the next Unicron. Megatron however has other ideas.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Autobots and Decepticons defeat the Quintessons and foil their plans to create a new Unicron, Lio Convoy purifies Megatron, and the Selectors gain their independence. However, Megatron departs to join the Primus Vanguard, humanity and Cybertronians are forced to evacuate Earth, and Earth itself becomes uninhabitable due to corrupt Angolmois Energy and leaving it in that state come Beast Wars II which forces the Cybertronians to delete their records of the planet and keeping its secret hidden, and Unicron won't revive until millions of years later in Beast Wars Neo.
  • Butt-Monkey: Even in this series, King Poseidon can't catch a break being destroyed by Megatron.
  • Earth All Along: Gaia was revealed to be Earth after millions of years later. 2050 reveals why it was in that state.
  • Foregone Conclusion: The Angolmois Energy corrupts the Earth, rendering it uninhabitable for years to come, and it would renamed to Gaia. The future Maximals and Predacons of Beast Wars II and Neo would eventually discover the planet millions of years later.
  • Golden Super Mode: Both Optimus and Megatron attain these forms with Optimus becoming Gold Primus Convoy and Megatron as Gold Megatron.
  • Good vs. Good: Rather than a classic good vs. evil, it's the Cybertronian Alliance and the Dinobots. The Cybertronian Alliance, which includes Optimus and Megatron, are on the Selectors' side while the Dinobots are on the side of humans for their Undying Loyalty with Carly Witwicky.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At this point of the story, Megatron and the other Decepticons are not villains. In fact, they become an Anti-Villain when they see the Selectors wanting their own independence and sympathizes with their leader Rung. However, they also would rather avoid causing another war.
  • Hypocrite: As Megatron points out, Optimus believes "Freedom is the right to all sentient beings". He throws Prime's own philosophy back at him when the Selectors wanted the same freedom and rights as their creators. This lead to Optimus and Spike Witwicky to come up with an agreement for giving the Selectors the same freedom as everyone else.
  • I Hate Past Me: Who is strong enough to defeat Galvatron's strongest form, Gold Megatron? His future self post-Heel–Face Turn, that's who. Galvatron ends up losing the Silver Matrices, Seven Lights, and his gold power. after being thwarted by his future self.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Optimus tried to appeal to Megatron who became Megatron Omega. His words fall on deaf ears right until Lio Convoy appears and purifies him.
  • MacGuffin: The Silver Matrix, an artifact so powerful, it could create a new universe. Star Convoy uses the Silver Matrix with his rifle to form the Big Bang Cannon.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: The Quintessons have no intention of speaking in behalf of the humans. They intend to use Earth as a second Unicron.
  • Screw Destiny: Galvatron hates what entails with his fate, and plans to avert it.
  • Super Mode: Both Optimus and Megatron can access multiple forms. Megatron however could access more forms with two Silver Matrices.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Optimus and Galvatron finds out about their fates in Transformers: ★Headmasters, Optimus was willing to accept his fate while Galvatron is none too happy about it.
  • You Remind Me of X: Rung reminds Megatron his early years when the Quintessons created and enslaved the Cybertronians as gladiator robots, and they ultimately rebelled to gain their independence and freedom. And so he decides to start a revolution so the Selectors could have their own freedom as sentient beings.
