The humans discovered a new source of energy called the Angolmois, and grew dependent on it. It all changed when war broke out caused by the Quintessons that planned to create a new Unicron, and Megatron tries to draw the Angolmois energy into himself, despite Optimus' concern that it would turn him evil again. Megatron knew it would be the case and wants Optimus to MercyKill him. The Angolmois grew too so much that mass evacuation was necessary for humanity and the Cybertronians to evacuate Earth. The Cybertronians eventually deleted all records of Earth and it was completely abandoned, hence its current state.
