Rugrats (1991)

  • The very first episode of the series showed the viewers that one of Stu's inventions was a doorbell that had a camera you could speak through. Stu basically invented a prototype version of the Ring Doorbell.
  • In Season One’s ‘At the Movies’ Godzilla-expy, Reptar, is introduced in a movie where he terrorizes New York City, and 7 years later the real Godzilla would terrorize New York City in the 1998 American Film.
  • Season 1's "Ruthless Tommy" is about a pair of Stupid Crooks who attempt to hold a baby for ransom, only to suffer a series of Amusing Injuries when they lose track of him. Three years later, John Hughes would create an entire film centered around this concept.
  • The 1992 episode "The Big House" is about Tommy being put into a daycare similar to a prison and he then attempts to break the rest of the babies out. One of the babies is voiced by Pamela Segal, and the episode was written by Paul Germain. Flash forward to 1997, where the plot of the episode becomes almost the basis for Paul Germain and fellow writer Joe Ansolabehere's new Disney series, where Pamela Segal is one of the major characters.
  • In one episode, Chuckie comments that he was afraid of eating green Jell-O because it could've been alive. A couple of years later, Jell-O's slogan was actually "It's alive!"
  • In the episode "Garage Sale", Didi gets mortified when the kids stumble upon her and Stu's old disco memorabilia, and when Angelica asks her what "disco" is, she tells her that "It's something that happened a long time ago, and it's never, never coming back!" (which is currently the page quote for Disco Sucks). Years later, the pilot for All Grown Up! would revolve around Stu and Didi competing in a disco dance competition.
  • In "He Saw, She Saw", Chuckie was hanging out with a girl who had an overprotective brother who, initially, refused to let Chuckie hang out with her. Chuckie later takes on this behavior with Kimi in All Grown Up, freaking out with she starts hanging out with a bad boy and being upset over his best friend (possibly) crushing on his little sister.
  • In "Unfair Pair", Angelica mentions how Phil and Lil are the only ones among the main characters who have siblings. Later on in the series, Tommy and Chuckie get a brother and a sister respectively, leaving Angelica the only one without any siblings. Additionally the episode "Angelica's Worst Nightmare" has her worrying about the news that she could possibly get a sibling, which is hilarious with the episode where she demands Drew get her a brother or sister.
  • One later episode has Tommy and Chuckie meet a tough girl named Samantha and a meek boy named Freddie respectively.
  • In "Graham Canyon," Stu and Didi get on route to the Grand Canyon, but, after a wrong turn and a troubling time with the mechanics, they decide to go to the Clam Canyon (a waterpark and seafood restaurant), instead. In the All Grown Up! episode "RV Having Fun Yet?", the Pickles family finally go to the Grand Canyon proper.
  • The scene where Stu orders 144 eggs, far more than needed for the cake he and Drew were making, becomes this when during the 2018 Olympics, due to a translation error, the chefs for Norway's team accidentally ordered 15,000 eggs when they only needed 1,500. Fans were quick to note the parallels.
  • The episode "Sour Pickles" aired in 1993, and in it, Stu and Drew watch a show called "Blocky and Oxwinkle". 17 years later...
  • "Acorn Nuts and Diapey Butts" has Grandpa Lou say that he doesn't want to turn into a hippie. And a hippie is exactly what he becomes in the revival series.
    • Similarly in "Angelica's Birthday", he makes a comment about how the best year of his life was being at Woodstock, but then complains about how all those kids made a racket.
  • A Running Gag was, whenever the babies' scheme or game or whatnot required coffee, they would just use mud ("This coffee tastes like mud!/It IS mud!"). In 2018, Shane Heath released a drink made of powdered mushrooms and herbs marketed specifically as a coffee alternative. Its name? Mud Water.
  • In the episode "Tooth or Dare", the edutainment video, The Adventures of Healthy Teeth, is strikingly similar to The Adventures of Timmy the Tooth, complete with a dentist named Dr. Dentist and an "Everybody Laughs" Ending. Scary thing is, though, this episode predates Timmy.
  • The premise of the episode "Where's Grandpa?" involves the Pickles family leaving Grandpa Lou at a rest stop when he uses the bathroom. 25 years after the episode aired, a man left behind his wife in the same situation.
  • In Season 2's "Family Reunion", Tommy saves Angelica from a goat when it attacks her. In "Traditions", the holiday special from the 2021 reboot, Angelica returns the favor.
  • The voice changer in "Angelica Orders Out" becomes this 3 years later when a beloved slasher franchise used the same concept in a far more devious fashion.
  • In Season 6's "Doctor Susie", Susie learns from her doctor mother how to be a good doctor and fix broken toys. Thirteen years later, Disney Junior would have an entire show based around this concept.

All Grown Up!

  • "Yu-Gotta-Go", the episode with a Yu-Gi-Oh! parody, features a purple clad character named Shark.

The Rugrats Movie

Rugrats in Paris

  • In the Brazilian Portuguese dub, the phone call Kira (voiced by Tânia Gaidarji) has with the groggy Stu (voiced by Élcio Sodré) can now come across as quite amusing, as years later, Gaidarji was cast as Saint Seiya Omega's Gemini Paradox, who notoriously had unreciprocated romantic feelings for Dragon Shiryu, also voiced by Sodré.
  • Stu's remark about online dating websites being "the future of dating" appears to have aged better than expected, as seen with the rise of dating apps like Tinder.
  • EuroReptarland was a bit of a Take That! to what was then known as the Euro Disney Resort (a foreign theme park based on popular children's characters that was out of touch with Parisian culture). Compare that with the turnaround that the real Disneyland Paris has experienced since the film came out, which has become one of the most popular destinations in Paris due to bringing more Parisian culture into the park.
