Heartwarming / Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist

Go To

  • Zoey manages to discern through a song (Mad World) that her coworker, Simon, is depressed and her talking to him about it helps him come out of it and talk to his fiancee about it.
  • Zoey being able to communicate with her father again through his songs. Yes, it may be cheesy, but Peter Gallagher singing "True Colors" has never been more sweet.
    • This makes her also realize that he doesn't want to just sit and watch TV anymore, so she takes her family sailing, one of their favorite activities before his problem. He father then works up the strength to hold her mother's hand again.
  • Episode 5 has Zoey's mom feeling guilty about running the same business she and Mitch did before he got sick, and she was planning on shutting it down. Cue Mitch singing "It's Your Thing", fully supporting Maggie continuing her work. Zoey is so happy to hear it, she starts dancing with her dad.
  • Episode 6 has Zoey on the verge of a nervous breakdown at Simon's engagement party after Jessica kicks her out and getting a call from Maggie that her dad fell down the stairs, and there were no available cars to take her home. Max does whatever it takes to get her home, all while singing "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)".
  • Episode 8 is one for Max and Zoey's friendship. Yes he may be a bit of a Dogged Nice Guy, but at the end of the day is her friend and will swallow his own hurt feelings in order to help her when she is desperate. Special mention goes to joining in on her nearly disastrous impromptu rendition of "Pressure" during a product pitch, despite knowing this could very well get him fired. Later, he counsels Zoey to spend time with her family. This comes after she deeply hurts his feelings by singing an erotically charged song to Simon, and following her reveal that she's breaking down from the stress of her father's illness progressing.
  • The astounding sign-language version of "Fight Song" with Zoey astounded to realize the passion these people have even without hearing or voice.
  • Mitch and Maggie singing "Perfect" on their anniversary. It's one of the biggest Tears of Joy moments of the show.
  • The revelation that Zoey got the job at the company because Max gave up his own spot for her after she had to leave to see her mom at the hospital. Max never told Zoey of this amazing sacrifice when he had no idea he would end up working there himself.
    • When Zoey finally finds out, she's at first upset as she thought she'd earned the job on her own merits. When Max explains why, she admits she's moved by it and only upset because he never told her over the last six years.
