SPRQ Point's HR
  • Does SPRQ Point just not have HR? Their policies around hiring, transfers, relationships, etc. seem lax to not non-existent.
    • SPRQ Point does have an HR, because Zoey mentions it in episode 1 during the song "All I do is win" when she says "I wish I could go to HR about this."
    • Its entirely possible that, as a tech company that seems to be relatively 'new' still, and one largely ignored by its CEO as he goes off, that they're just not well managed. If they have a HR department, its probably one that's not very well organised or good at its job. Its really not uncommon for companies that are founded the way SPRQ Point is, especially as its founder was a tech guy, not a businessman, to not have their HR side of things very worked out.

6th Floor Privileges
  • Joan's team can't access the 6th floor at all, but various people who don't work there make surprise visits to the 4th floor.
    • As far as I can recall, the only people who've dropped by the Fourth floor are accompanied by someone who works there or are someone who would logically have access (namely Joan's husband, Max after his promotion as he likely still has his old access or could borrow Ava's). Its also worth pointing out Joan is a much less intense boss than Ava, so she's probably just more lax on uninvited visitors.

  • How does it make any sense for a tech company to have two different teams working, not just independently and separately, but actively withholding information from each other, on the exact same project?

Max stepping aside for Zoey

We find out that SPRQ Point did a competition to hire when Max and Zoey first met, and that Max stepped aside so Zoey could get one of the two positions offered. How is it that Zoey never heard of this in the six years that she'd been there? The coders she works with clearly knew all along, and they aren't exactly the type to not rub her nose into it ("You're only here because that one guy let you take his place.") If nothing else, it would seem Leif would have brought it up when he and Zoey were first going up against each other for manager ("I got in on my own merits, she only got in because of Max.")

Why does Tobin have Photoshop open at work?

The team at SPRQ Point are computer coders, right? Yet we see Tobin sitting in front of a blank Photoshop document several times over the course of the series. Why would a coder need a software program that's by definition designed for people in a completely different field?! I find it hard to believe that the prop department wouldn't know the difference.

  • Why is the company organized by floor instead of functional divisions? When Zoey becomes the Executive Director of the 4th Floor, she just becomes the boss of every single person whose desk happens to be on the floor. She becomes Simon's boss, but he's in marketing/PR and she has zero experience there. What kind of legitimate company would allow this? And in the episode where there are layoffs, she has to let a bunch of other people go who are presumably not coders (because we've never seen them on her team before). And apparently, each floor (or at least 4,5, and 6) has its own coding teams.
  • And then they always show the coders doing Research & Development, which is a totally different function. So why isn't Zoey just Executive Director of coding, so that she can oversee all of the coders regardless of floor, so that marketers can report a Marketing Director, R&D can report to an R&D Director, etc.?
