Friend or Idol Decisions made in Fan Works.

Crossovers
  • The Bridge: In the backstory, Anguirus once had a choice to either absorb some mana crystals to gain his full potential, or allow Baragon to absorb them to heal his fatal injuries. He chose to save Baragon, deciding power was worthless without his friends.
  • Infinity Train: Melancholy Afterlife: While trying to save a Pidgey from a flock of Spearows, Chloe has a moment where she can choose whether to let it go free or try and capture it. She tells it to get to safety while distracting the flock. It's implied that the Pidgey returned the favor by contacting Ash's Pidgeot so they could save her.
  • The Mist Has Fallen: Shounak Khatri idolizes the Avengers, but finds himself torn between his hero worship and friendship with Percy when the Avengers start hunting for him. Ultimately, he chooses to put his friend first.
  • Superwomen of Eva 2: Lone Heir of Krypton:
    • Brainiac tempts Asuka with a knowledge orb of Krypton. She doesn't gives as much of a damn about it as Brainiac thought she would have, but she does try to save it when Brainiac's ship starts to explode. She fails to but manages to save a knowledge orb with recordings of Kyoko when she was sane, instead.
    • Later on she has a similar moment when Leliel starts to swallow Evangelion Unit-02 and she tries to decide whether to eject from the Eva and be Supergirl all the time or not. Shinji saves her before her Evangelion completely falls into the Dirac Sea, rendering it (temporarily) moot.
    • Finally, when Armisael struck she had to choose between getting into her giant robot to or donning her Supergirl identity to fight it. She had got better odds of winning if she used her super-powers, but then she would be fired and stop being a pilot. She chose being Supergirl, quitting being an Eva pilot for good.
  • In Stallion of the Line, Hina has to repeatedly remind herself of the oath she swore when joining the Marines, believing that she has to follow it even if it means giving them information about her friend Luffy.

Dragon Ball

  • Played With in What If Zamasu Did Nothing Wrong? After Gowasu learns about Zamasu's trip to Universe 7 and confronts him about it, Zamasu is conflicted about how to handle the situation. Namely, he isn't certain whether he should be honest with Gowasu, or kill him in order to become the new Supreme Kai, with Decraf serving as his God of Destruction. Though sorely tempted, he recalls how much his master cares for him, ultimately choosing to try and explain himself instead.

Gravity Falls

The Hunger Games

  • The Toxic Verse: In Hurt or be Hurt, Luster finds two of their allies fighting to the death. After quickly taking control of the situation, they must choose which of the pair to kill: Rayann, who was thrown into the Games as a cruel twist, or Melanthe, who was the Only Friend they'd had before entering the Games and suffered Sanity Slippage.

The Loud House

  • One Girl with Ten Brothers: The titular celebration of "Party Down" gets out of control, with guests engaging in underage drinking and smoking weed; still, Loki hesitates, torn between the knowledge that letting this continue could ruin his parents' trust in him and the fear that kicking everybody out will ruin his reputation among his peers. Then he spots Linka coughing, struggling to breathe with all the smoke, which spurs him to act.

Mega Man

My Hero Academia

  • Dirty Little Secrets: Shinso faces this twice over:
    • Firstly, he finally gets to join the Hero Course... because Minata has mysteriously gone missing. Which Shinso realizes may be connected to him carelessly using his Quirk, meaning he has to decide whether he's willing to keep his seat along with his silence, or confess what happened.
    • Later on, this is further complicated when he has to choose between starting up a romantic relationship with Todoroki, or admitting the truth to him.
  • Green Tea Rescue: When All Might offers to train Izuku, he immediately accepts, only to realize that he'd already made plans to train with Ochako instead. Seeing how guilt-ridden his successor is, All Might solves the problem by testing Ochako's character, then accepting her as another student, letting her train alongside Izuku.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • A Future of Friendship, a History of Hate: Regal Rule appears to be the Prince Charming that Rarity's long yearned for; however, he begins driving a wedge between her and her friends, until she realizes that she completely forgot about Fluttershy's birthday. She chooses to focus on them over chasing her dreams. Unfortunately, Regal is none other than Megalos Tyrant in disguise, and doesn't take her choice well.
  • Principal Celestia Hunts the Undead: In the sequel, Sunset Shimmer Hunts the Undead, Adagio's fellow Dazzlings present her with one when they reveal that their powers have been restored, offering her a choice to rejoin them or stick with her new friends. She seemingly chooses the Dazzlings, only to later slip Applejack a key to help her and the others escape.
  • What Hath Joined Together: Twilight Sparkle regards Princess Celestia as practically perfect, and believes that The Order is a just and logical way of running society. Princess Candance, whom she also cares deeply for, despises The Order for keeping lovers apart, and wants Twilight to help her stand against the system.

Naruto

  • Blind invokes this during the Chuunin Exams: during the interview stage, attendees must decide whether or not they're willing to put their personal advancement ahead of their teammates.

Pokémon

  • Pokémon Sun: A Ranger's Trial: Traveling around the Alola region makes Aubrey question whether she wants to continue being a Ranger or become a trainer instead. This conflict only grows as she realizes that she's come across the opportunity of a lifetime, but still isn't certain whether she's willing to switch tracks.

RWBY

  • Arc Corp: In Chapter 47, Jaune chooses to save Blake over killing Winter, tossing himself off a skyscraper in hopes of flying her to safety. Even when he learns that they have a second opportunity to take her down immediately after, Jaune heeds Blake's pleas and they return home rather than risk a hopeless fight.
  • Professor Arc: During the Headmaster Arc, Winter has to decide whether she'll help her sister Weiss or continue following General Ironwood's orders.
