Pokemon Sun: A Ranger's Trials is a Pokémon fanfic written by ChaosFlash912 that was published on January 17 2021 and was finished on September 28 2021.

When a Pokemon Ranger takes time off from her job to have a nice vacation in the sunny and tropical Alola region, she winds up getting a lot more than what she bargained for. Will it still be the best vacation ever? Probably. A slice of paradise mixed with tales of other worlds, coming up!

A prequel to the story called Pokemon X A Ultimate Maid's Journey, which is crossover between Pokemon and New Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, and was published on August 20 2021, and is being co-written by Lolitafreak88 and ChaosFlash912. An aspiring trainer with a complex about himself. A young maid who's done terrible things in the name of selfless devotion. Mysterious tampering has united them in the world of Kalos and as a splendid Pokemon journey unfolds, the road becomes steep. Unveiled secrets, evil plots by a red-streaked group, sightings of lost souls, league battles, and a quest to end the killing game.

Pokemon Sun: A Ranger's Trials contains the following Tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Some of the characters that appeared have been made a lot strong in comparison to their canon counterpart.
    • A heroic example would be The Masked Royal, who we get to see join in on the wrestling on Day 3 to show off his strength.
    • A villainous example would be Lusamine, who nearly defeated Aubrey in their first fight against each other on Day 5. And then there is her fight in Ultra Space where she actually joined the fight while in her Mother Beast form.
  • Adaptational Deviation: There's only one of each Ultra Beast in Chapter 26 instead of two Buzzwole/Celesteela and four Kartana/Pheremosa.
  • Adaptational Karma: RR!Giovanni is arrested alongside Faba instead of teleporting away after being beaten.
  • Adaptational Heroism: The Tapus are far nicer than in the games being willing to give Guzma and Team Skull a second chance.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: The people of Alola are shown to be prejudiced against Mega Evolutions which wasn't a problem in the games.
  • Alternate Self: The Team Rainbow Rocket leaders just like in the game. Lampshaded every time one shows up.
  • Big Bad: Lusamine and Nilhego for the main portion, RR!Giovanni for the Rainbow Rocket part.
  • Busman's Holiday: Aubrey came to the Alola region looking for a vacation, only to wind up taking on the responsibility of investigating not only the Ultra Beasts, but also Alola's prejudice towards Mega Evolution.
  • Establishing Character Moment: All four of the of the main quartet of OCs each had their quirks and personalities shown off in their introduction scenes.
    • Aubrey is shown immediately jumping into a mission from Kukui looking for the Kahuna, and then later taming three Spearow attacking Nebby.
    • Jake is shown to be superstitious and worried about the Ultra Beasts, but also having a big heart when talking about the prejudice towards Mega Evolution.
    • Vanessa is shown as the reliable sort when helping Aubrey and Jake figure things out based on the limited information they have, as well as responsible when it comes to caring for Aubrey's Skarmory
    • Key is shown chiming in giving business advice to a saleswoman at the Hau'oli Mall, as well as showing an interest in Aubrey that can best be described as 'fascination'.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • On the first part of Day 4, Jake wonders how Vanessa dresses, and Aubrey offers that Vanessa can join them once she's done with her business in Kanto. Sure enough, during Day 5, Vanessa shows up in Alola to assist the duo.
    • On the last part of Day 4, Aubrey is able to tame a Nihilego at Aether Paradise with her Capture Styler, and later, during Day 6, Aubrey is able to use her Capture Styler on Motherbeast Lusamine to force the Nihilego to defuse with her in their fight with her.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: As the story progresses and Aubrey continues on her journey she begins to question if she wants to continue being a Pokemon Ranger or if she wants to become a Pokemon trainer. She sees that coming to Alola has given her the opportunity of a lifetime, but questions if it will be enough for her to leave her job as a Pokemon Ranger.
  • God Is Good: Rather than having the Tapus be portrayed as jerk trickster gods, the story and the second bonus mission portrays them as benevolent deities who are willing to give Team Skull and Guzma a second chance after the rangers seek them out.
  • Goldfish Poop Gang: The Team Skull grunts.
  • King Mook: The Totem Pokémon, just like the games.
  • Legion of Doom: Giovanni forms Team Rainbow Rocket from villainous team leaders that come from dimensions where they won due to the protagonists never being around to stop them.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Hau took on RR!Ghetsis's team and won during the Rainbow Rocket arc. All that we see is he got a black eye protecting Lillie from Ghetsis.
  • Pokémon Speak: How the Pokémon speak just like in Pokémon: The Series, though zigzagged as some speak in regular critter noises.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Guzma and Lusamine are the leaders of Team Skull and the Aether Foundation and two of the strongest battlers particularly after the latter fuses with Nilhego.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: When it concerns the rangers, Aubrey is the Red Oni whereas Vanessa is the Blue Oni. When it concerns Aubrey and Jake, they seem to alternate between each other.
  • Single Specimen Species: Only one of each Ultra Beast is encountered instead of multiples for Buzzwole, Pheremosa, Kartana and Celesteela.
  • Victory Pose: Aubery, just like in the Ranger games.
