  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Northern Portugal, the winter of 1811. Two armies watch each other over the border, waiting for the next year's campaigning. The friendship they strike up will change both of their lives forever ...

  • Comments: Incredibly well written and gets the characters and their relationships as well as the historical background just right. This writer is equally skilled when it comes to action sequences - there is one aerial battle in particular, involving a blood-thirsty Moncey and a Richard Sharpe thoroughly out of his depth, that just takes the reader's breath away - as where dialogue or character development are concerned. No romance, and interestingly, no extreme deviations from canon. Just a damn good ride.
