When Rudy and Penny's school-mate Mint finds his way into Chalk Zone, Skrawl convinces him that it's just an elaborate video game. How can they fight someone who won't restrain himself because he thinks everything is just data? Written by DarkHououmon.

Can be read here.

You Belong to Me provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: Penny, especially in her first battle against Mint.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The school principal who gleefully expels Rudy when Mint frames him for pulling the fire alarm and who has to be blackmailed into clearing Rudy's name.
  • An Arm and a Leg: During the fight with Skrawl, Mint ends up losing part of his left leg and needs a prosthetic. All things considered, he takes it well, and accepts it as punishment for his previous ignorance and refusal to listen to Rudy and Penny before things got worse.
  • And You Thought It Was a Game: Mint's thought process about Chalk Zone. Skrawl does everything he can to encourage this.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In a rage, Rudy tells Mint that he deserves whatever Skrawl does to him. Later, this bites him back hard when Skrawl uses this as an excuse to try to rip Mint's arm off. The effect is worsened when Skrawl chops off part of Mint's left leg, thus completing Rudy's 'wish'.
  • Character Development: Throughout much of the story, Mint is a Jerkass who treats the trio, especially Snap, like they are lower than dirt. After his Heel-Face Turn, he becomes a valuable ally willing to make up for his mistakes and ultimately becomes friends with the trio.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Mint is not happy when Skrawl orders him to get Rudy in trouble in the real world. Mint sees this as poor form. He still ends up doing it, albeit somewhat reluctantly. He admits to Rudy and Penny later that he isn't proud of what he did and even tries to even things out a little by informing them of what he had done in ChalkZone during their absence.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Skrawl tries to act civil and friendly towards Mint, but it easily fails and a few times, comes off as a bit bossy. At one point, he gets so angry that he completely drops his nice facade altogether and outright attacks Mint. This begins Mint's suspicions regarding Skrawl's statements about ChalkZone.
  • Forgiveness: A major theme of the story.
  • Freak Out: To put it mildly, Mint does not take it too well when he finally realizes that ChalkZone is real. The full weight of him realizing just what he had done causes him to shut down for about a week.
  • The Heavy: Although Skrawl is the Big Bad, Mint carries most of the plot as the story focuses on him more, with Skrawl only becoming the prominent bad guy for the final few chapters.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Mint switches sides after he realizes that Skrawl had lied to him and had been using him. He helps Rudy and Penny defeat Skrawl, nearly losing his life in the process. By the end of the story, he is a friend to the trio and on much better terms with the zoners, although some are still a little cautious of him.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Skrawl plays on Mint's belief that ChalkZone is just a game in order to keep him on his side. Whenever an issue rises up, Skrawl is quick to find an explanation, thus keeping Mint firmly on his side for a while.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mint's reaction to finding out Chalk Zone is real and that he's been hurting real living beings.
    • When Mint comes clean about framing Rudy, the Tabootie parents have this reaction when Rudy calls them out on not even hearing his side of the story.
    • Rudy also gets one when he confronts Mint after Snap ends up in the hospital and realizes that the other boy honestly thinks Rudy is going to hit him.
    • Just before his Freak Out with learning ChalkZone is real, Mint has this reaction when he realizes that he had broken Snap's back in a rage.
  • Obliviously Evil: As nasty as Mint his and as cruel as his actions are, he really doesn't know that ChalkZone is real. Thus, he is unaware of just how devastating his actions really are.
  • Oh, Crap!: Snap, when he realizes that Mint is in his home.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Rudy's friendly demeanor all but shatters for a few minutes when he witnesses Mint break Snap's back. The normally nice child charges Mint and pushes him into the ground and proceeds to give him a verbal beatdown, and soon chases him off. While it's not as bad as what Skrawl would have done, for Rudy, this was quite an out of character moment for him, though understandable due to the circumstances.
  • Start of Darkness: When Mint first shows up, he is a bit of a jerk but he doesn't seem like a threat. Then he gets a hold of magic chalk, experiences his first moment of creating, and his demeanor quickly changes, and he becomes eager to follow Skrawl's orders.
  • Technicolor Fire: In one chapter, Mint sets the Future Dome ablaze using blue fire. The only reason he seemed to choose blue fire over normal coloration is just because it looked cool.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Rudy gives one to his parents after Mint admits to framing him for pulling the fire alarm, pointing out that they didn't even hear his side of things.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Penny. In one chapter, she takes on Mint alone when Rudy is not able to come into ChalkZone. Mint doesn't take her seriously and is prepared to send her running home crying. He gets the shock of his life when Penny bests him using a tricky aerial trap maneuver, catches Mint, and takes his chalk away. She defeats Mint on her first try. To drive home the point, it took Rudy, the more experienced creator of the two, about four times before he won a round against Mint.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Principal Stringent. When Rudy is accused of pulling the fire alarm, she drags him off without giving him a chance to explain or defend himself. Then, when she speaks to Rudy in her office, she reveals that she believes he tainted the water that made everyone act so childish and seeks revenge by purposely getting him into trouble, lying to his folks in order to make the punishment more severe. She almost gets away with it. At the end of the story, a reformed Mint manages to blackmail her into telling the truth and to leave Rudy and Penny alone regarding the quarry issue.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Mint becomes much nicer towards the trio, especially Snap, after his Heel-Face Turn.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Mint temporarily goes into a psychotic state during the fight on Future Dome. Unlike his other battles, where he is usually more collected, he becomes comparatively deranged here and doesn't think through his actions very well. This nearly gets him defeated and kicked out of ChalkZone.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Penny gives Rudy this, telling him that he needs to restrain his anger against Mint before he does something he'll regret.
  • Would Hit a Girl: When Mint goes crazy during a later chapter, he ruthlessly punches Penny.
