A battle took place between two factions of beings known as Mutants. On one side, there were the X-Men who defended the world of man and the other, the Brotherhood who wanted to take over. However, it was during that battle that something unforeseen occurred. A mutant named Wanda Maximoff lost control of her powers and unleashed a world-wide event that stripped all Mutants of their unique abilities.
Ten Years later, the world was rebuilding itself after that event. Mutants have long become a forgotten memory which people hoped stayed the way. Unfortunately, that can never be the case. In the nation of Japan, another extraordinary event occurred when a massive red storm hit Tokyo and transformed 16 teenagers into Mutants.
Professor Charles Xavier and Logan picked up on the disturbance and managed to rescue these children. Seeing that the teens are inexperienced and their newfound abilities would attract unwanted attention, both Charles and Logan decided to recruit them as students and become X-Men.
X-Men: The Next Generation is a crossover fic between X-Men and various Rom-Com (Romantic Comedy) anime including Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, Toradora! and Horimiya. It is part of the Anime X Marvel series - Phase 3: The Fallout Saga.

- And I'm the Queen of Sheba: When Sakuta tries to explain to Jiro that he is actually dating Mai Sakurajima, Jiro responds by saying "Yeah, and I'm dating the Queen of England".
- Battle Couple: Many of the new X-Men are already in relationships prior to their empowering.
- Berserk Button: Anyh form of harm done on their girlfriends will bring out the boys' more violent side.
- Wolverine learns Ryuji can be just as violent as Taiga after he hurts her.
- Jun challenges Juggernaut after the brute attacks Tomo.
- Blessed with Suck: Both Miyamura and Misaki have this following their gain of powers. For Miyamura, it's that he has to wear sunglasses to keep his Eye Beams contained while Misaki is unable to touch anyone due to her powers draining people.
- Blood Knight: Taiga is already a very violent individual hence why she is actually happy to acquire Mutant powers. Later, she enjoys a sparring match between her and Wolverine.
- Book Ends: The first season begins with the crimson storm transforming the 16 teens into Mutants. It then ends with the crimson storm now transforming people across Japan.
- Breaking the Fellowship: By present day when the fic starts, both the X-Men and Brotherhood had disbanded following the loss of their powers.
- Call-Back: The series is a direct result of the events of The Avengers: Heroes of the Multiverse as Wanda Maximoff was battling her Alternate Self, the Scarlet Witch from that fic for control of her body, causing the world-wide depowering of almost all Mutants.
- Cat Fight: Both Taiga and Tomo engaged each other after the two made fun at one another.
- Clip Its Wings: Junichi loses one of his wings when he protects Yukana from Sabretooth.
- Continuity Nod:
- Ryuji remarks the end of his and Taiga's series, Toradora! where Taiga took absence from him for a while.
- Both Sakuta and Mai bring up the latter's experience in Time Travel from Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl
- Dimensional Cutter: Charles believes Taiga's powers can be able to open a hole through whatever dimension Wanda's trapped in and allows her to escape.
- Friend on the Force: Hori's father, Kyousuke is working as an agent in the Japanese government, specifically monitoring Mutant activity which includes X-Men.
- Handy Feet: After being infused with Beast's powers, Jun's feet morphed into this.
- Heroic Fire Rescue: The male members of the X-Men learnt of a building that was on fire and they not only successfully rescued the people that were trapped inside but also prevented an explosion that could have taken out the entire block.
- Lemony Narrator: In Part 1, the narrator personally expresses his consensus with Akari about her being a far better romantic partner than Shiori Sakurazaka. He later comments how
- Mass Super-Empowering Event: Wanda reemerged somewhat in Japan as a massive crimson storm that sucked in the 16 teenagers and bestowed them the Mutant powers.
- Mythology Gag:
- The fic acknowledges the original forms of the X-Men from the comics before they acquired their iconic appearances. Jiro have a snowman form which is the original look to Iceman. Later, Logan tips Jun to not experiment on his DNA as in the comics, the original Beast, Hank McCoy obtained his blue furred bestial appearance from an experiment.
- Jiro freezing Wolverine's beer is similar to what Bobby did in X2: X-Men United.
- New Year Has Come: Appropriately in a way, Japan was celebrating the new year when Wanda finally resurfaces to bestow the stolen Mutant powers to new hosts.
- Papa Wolf:
- Wolverine is determined to keep the children from harm's way. When Sabretooth is about to maim Junichi and Yukana, Wolverine unleashes a berserker rage unto Sabretooth.
- Magneto is determined to get Wanda back even if it means taking out the X-Men.
- Secret-Keeper: Hori's father, Kyousuke knows his daughter and Miyamura have become Mutants and that their new school is training them to control their powers.
- Seen It All: Out of the 16 teens, only Mai Sakurajima and Sakuta Azusagawa are hardly fazed at all after being informed they had been turned into Mutants. Considering the experiences they had in their own series, it's understandable.
- Shout-Out:
- One of the boys remarks Miyamura's bandaged state like Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen and then remarking if his eyes are Six Eyes, Sharingan or Geass.
- Junichi references Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia and then brings up Naruto, Bleach and One Piece being Real After All due to the fact Mutants exist.
- Naoto brings up YuYu Hakusho when theorizing about Wanda's state.
- Wolverine calls Jun Beast Boy.
- Sneaking Out at Night: The boys snuck out of the institute to do some good with their powers which they did when they worked together to rescue people out of a burning building.
- Sphere of Destruction: Ryuji absorbs the wild fire and shoots it up from the building to the skies above in a huge ball of energy which then explodes.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Despite caring for Charles for the last decade, Wolverine still carries deep resentment towards his old friend for brainwashing Jean which lead to the Dark Phoenix incident. Thankfully, Logan calms down and he and Charles make amends.
- The Reveal: Charles reveals to the students about the last battle the X-Men had with the Brotherhood of Mutants. After Jean Grey performed a Face–Heel Turn and became the Dark Phoenix, she joined Magneto and his Brotherhood. The war finally ended when the Scarlet Witch lost control of her powers and stripped every Mutant of their abilities but she, along with the Dark Phoenix and Cyclops disappeared.
- Wham Episode: The ending to the first season has the X-Men successfully rescuing Wanda though Junichi is severely crippled by Sabretooth and more mutants are being created in Japan. Professor X calls in the original X-Men to help him and Wolverine to teach these new mutants.
- What the Hell, Hero?
- Logan chews out Professor X for taking in the 16 teens as his students.
- He also reveals that many of the X-Men felt the same way for the professor's previous actions, including how he handled Jean Grey.
- Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: Many of the boys laugh at the idea of Seishun Academy having a marriage course, wondering what loser would take part in that, much to Jiro's dismay.
- With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Discussed. Misaki brings this up to the others to get them to use their newfound powers carefully but Jiro points out that line can be open for interpretation.
- World-Wrecking Wave: A non-fatal example. Wanda unleashed her powers on the world and removed the Mutants of their abilities.
- You Can't Go Home Again: Downplayed. Charles and Logan can allow the students to visit their families as long as they keep their powers under control.
