To Fill The Void
is a fanfiction of Worm by that1guy.
The story diverges from canon before the beginning of the story, when Danny Hebert is one of Bakuda's victims. Sometime later, Thomas Calvert and Sophia Hess are both Leviathan casualties. Mourning her father's death, Taylor has grief sex with Brian, and gets pregnant. Now she has to balance Cape life and being a teen mom in the dangerous streets of post-Leviathan Brockton Bay.
Although it was last updated in 2019, this fic is technically complete as far as the main storyline is concerned.
This fanfic contains examples of the following:
- Adaptational Heroism: All of the Undersiders decided to make a Probation deal and flip to the PRT once Taylor has the Baby. the Yangban "recruitment drive" provides an impetus to make good on that decision by the most recent update.
- Berserk Button:
- Antagonizing Taylor is this for Brian. And do NOT call her a whore in his presence.
- Disrespecting Danny and Annette Hebert is one for Zoe Barnes.
- Breaking the Fellowship: Averted since the Undersiders surrender to the PRT together.
- Concert Episode: One of the last things Taylor does before giving birth is to attend a Canary Concert in Chapter 19.
- Dead Fic: Last updated in August 2019. Downplayed in that the main premise of the fic, the Teen Pregnancy storyline, is already complete.
- Death by Adaptation: Danny Hebert was killed by Bakuda, and Thomas Calvert (AKA Coil) and Sophia Hess (AKA Shadow Stalker) are both Leviathan casualties.
- Hookwolf, Stormtiger, and Brandish are also mentioned in passing as Leviathan casualties in the opening scene.
- Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon Regent was a casualty of Behemoth in New Delhi, while here he's assassinated by the Yangban.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Zoe threatens to have Emma sent to a reform camp run by some of these, as punishment for bullying a heavily-pregnant Taylor.
- Everyone Has Standards: Zoe Barnes is disgusted to hear Emma being willing to Speak Ill of the Dead just to antagonize Taylor.
- Feeling the Baby Kick: Taylor and Brian do this in a tender moment in chapter 12.
- From Bad to Worse: The Undersiders lose their sponsor, then the Merchants go on a rampage and the Undersiders need to cooperate with the Empire 88, then Taylor is outed as Skitter to New Wave while she is heavily pregnant, and finally the Yangban perform a "recruitment drive" in the Bay, forcing the Undersiders to surrender to the PRT in exchange for Probation.
- Hand on Womb: Taylor does this several times in the fic. Brian also does it a couple times.
- Honorary Uncle: Zoe Barnes was an honorary aunt to Taylor as a kid, and is willing to go full Mama Bear on her own biological daughter when Emma bullies a heavily-pregnant Taylor.
- Mama Bear:
- Taylor's baby is the only real family she has left (aside from her found family in the undersiders) and is willing to do anything to protect her. when Taylor surrenders to the PRT, the PRT troopers are spooked by how protective she is, and know that trying to separate mother and child is a bad idea.
- Zoe Barnes is an honorary aunt to Taylor, and is willing to protect her from her own biological daughter.
- Off the Rails: Diverges from canon hard in the first chapter, even before Taylor gets pregnant- Taylor loses her dad to Bakuda, and her boss and her arch-nemesis to Leviathan. Canary also managed to avoid getting Birdcaged. And the Yangban replace the Slaughterhouse Nine as the late-game threat to Brockton Bay.
- Oh, Crap!:
- Taylor when she finds out she's pregnant.
- Taylor again when she's outed as Skitter by Panacea, in front of Glory Girl.
- Director Emily Piggot has a minor one when she finds out from Panacea that Skitter is pregnant.
- Taylor and Brian when Emma Barnes decides to start bullying Taylor again.
- the Yangban coming to Brockton Bay to do some Superhuman Trafficking causes a Mass "Oh, Crap!" in the local Cape scene.
- Pregnant Badass: Taylor joins in the gang war against the Merchants during the first trimester of her pregnancy.
- Screaming Birth: averted thanks to Taylor's high pain tolerance, but she nearly breaks Brian's hand during her labor and delivery, and actually does break a stress ball.
- Sex for Solace: How Taylor gets pregnant with Brian.
- Slut-Shaming: Emma's opening insult when she bullies Taylor in chapter 14, which pisses off Brian.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Kaiser wasn't killed by Leviathan, preventing the Empire 88 from breaking up.
- Skidmark and Squealer aren't killed since the invaders of Post-Leviathan Brockton Bay are the Yangban rather than the slaughterhouse Nine.
- Non-lethal example in that Canary managed to avoid being thrown into the Birdcage.
- Speak Ill of the Dead: Emma taunts Taylor by speaking will of both of her dead parents, which pisses off Zoe.
- Superhuman Trafficking: the Yangban comes to Brockton Bay on one of their "recruitment drives", which are this trope. They take Skidmark and Squealer of the Merchants, and their mere presence is enough to intimidate the Undersiders into surrendering to the PRT on Probation terms.
- Teen Pregnancy: Taylor conceives a baby between the prologue and chapter 1, a couple weeks before her 16th birthday. she gives birth in Chapter 19.
- Tranquil Fury: Brian is clearly livid with Emma and Zoe Barnes, and only calms down when Zoe grounds Emma.
- Wham Episode:
- Chapter 1: Taylor's pregnancy test is positive.
- Chapter 11: The Merchants attack a truce meeting between the Undersiders and the Empire 88.
- Chapter 14: Emma starts bullying a heavily-pregnant Taylor in front of her boyfriend.
- Chapter 16: Taylor has a panic attack when Glory Girl tries to be friendly, prompting Panacea's intervention.
- Chapter 17: Taylor is outed as Skitter to New Wave.
- Chapter 19: Taylor gives birth to a healthy baby girl named Rosalie.
- Interlude 6: the Yangban appear in Brockton Bay and kidnap Skidmark and Squealer.
- Chapter 24: the Undersiders are ambushed by the Yangban, killing Regent and putting Grue in the hospital.
- Chapter 25: the surviving Undersiders surrender to the PRT and seek Wards probations.
- You Are Grounded!: Zoe Barns promptly grounds Emma after witnessing the latter bullying a heavily-pregnant Taylor.
