The Beast of Fairy Tail, written by XFangHeartX is a series of Fairy Tail fanfiction stories that depict the adventures of Haru Dragneel, Natsu's adopted younger sister and her pet wolf, Blue Fang, as they join Team Natsu on magical adventures throughout the canon timeline.

The Beast of Fairy Tail contains examples of the following tropes:

  • A Girl and Her X: Haru and her wolf, Blue Fang, who is not just her best friend, but also her fighting partner and in a way, an amplifier for her magic.
  • Action Girl: Haru is very capable of holding her own in a fight, as shown in the first story when she went up against the leader of a gang of bandits with Blue Fang's help.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Laxus when he put Haru in a cage when she was a feral child.
  • Animal Lover: Haru really loves her animals, especially Blue Fang.
  • Always Someone Better: In this series, Erza is actually the Second Strongest Woman in the Fairy Tail Guild. The title of First Strongest goes to Elektra Dreyar, Makarov's granddaughter.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Haru often gets annoyed by Natsu's rash decisions and his reckless attitude, but she really does care about him and gets visibly distressed when she thinks he might be in danger.
  • The Beastmaster: Haru's Beast Magic allows her to tame animals and control them through the use of magic songs.
  • Beast of Battle: Blue Fang is this for Haru, Natsu, and the gang, since being bigger than the average wolf makes him big enough for people to use him as a mount.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Subverted. Haru takes a really bad beating from Gajeel during the Phantom Lord War, and even worse beating from Laxus during the Battle of Fairy Tail, and it takes her a few days to recover.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Sometimes Played for Laughs. Natsu is so protective of Haru that he often gets into it with Gray because he thinks he's flirting with her, to both Haru and Gray's annoyance. However, in serious moments, Natsu tends to get very fierce when Haru is in danger.
  • Big Brother Worship: Comes in the form of two examples:
    • Haru adores Natsu and is very grateful to him for adopting her as his sister. In fact, he was the one who taught her martial arts.
    • Haru also applies this to Erza, seeing her as her older sister figure and is the only one who is not afraid of her disciplinary attitude. However, she's not afraid to talk against her if she doesn't agree with her ideals, as shown during the Galuna Island Arc, where she and Gray both tell her off for not wanting to help the islanders.
  • Big "NO!": Haru does this when she thinks she's lost Natsu and Erza to the Etherion explosion during the Tower of Heaven Arc.
  • Cain and Abel: A downplayed example for Laxus and his twin sister, Elektra Dreyar. It was revealed in a flashback that while Elektra attempted to try and talk Laxus out of his scheme to take over Fairy Tail, he shocked her through the head when she refused to join his side and said that with her out of the way, he would become the new master. However, Elektra survived but gained a scar on her head, which she keeps hidden under her bandanna.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Like every other character in the original series, Haru calls out her magic spells and attacks when in battle.
  • Canine Companion: Blue Fang is constantly by Haru's side, rarely ever seen away from her.
  • Date Peepers: In the story, Testing the Waters, Natsu and Lucy go out on an awkward first date, and Erza and Gray are spying on them. It is later revealed that Natsu knew all along that they were following him and Lucy around town.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Where to even begin? When Haru was a child, she grew up alone in the forest, and because she had no one to look after her, she turned feral. When she was 9 years old, a young Natsu found her after he got into another fight with Gray and because she was frightened by his presence, Haru inadvertently called a vicious bear with her magic, which she didn't even know she had at the time. She attempted to protect Natsu from the bear, only to get grievously injured as a result, and Natsu and Makarov bring her back to the guildhall for her to be treated. However, because Haru has No Social Skills, she constantly acted out against the other members, and yet, Natsu was the only one who could keep her calm and she actually gravitated towards him. Just when she starts feeling more at home at the guild, a belligerent Laxus comes storming into the guildhall after a job. Haru becomes frightened by his fury, but when Laxus attempts to hit his younger twin sister, Elektra, Haru bites him, causing him to put her in a cage, where she was locked up for 3 days until Natsu and the rest of the Fairy Tail children got her out. Even then, though, Haru attacked Natsu out of fear, but he manages to comfort her and tell her that she is no longer alone. This causes Haru to break down in tears before she allows Natsu to hug her. A few days after she is rehabilitated, Natsu decides to name her Haru and adopts her as his younger sister.
  • Evil Me Scares Me: Natsu gets this in Guardians of the Elise Kingdom where he learns that he almost attacked Lucy and Happy through no control of his own. He makes Gray promise that should he ever attempt to attack Lucy or the rest of Fairy Tail ever again that he should kill him.
  • Happily Adopted: Haru was adopted by Natsu as his younger sister and was even named "Haru Dragneel" because she forgot her old name.
  • Heroic BSoD: During the story, Aftermath, Haru goes through one after the Battle of Fairy Tail. She ends up getting depressed and is lying in bed for 3 days without eating anything, which worries Natsu to no end, especially since she won't tell him what's making her so despondent. It's later revealed that the reason why is that Haru was angry at everyone for forgiving Laxus so easily after everything he had done, and she felt that she was the only one who couldn't. Because of this, she felt that she had to leave Fairy Tail, but thankfully, everyone assures her that it's okay to not want to forgive Laxus as quickly as everyone else did and that she will come to forgive him, eventually, which finally brings Haru out of her depression.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Haru tends to be like this at times. Out of good-natured curiosity, she tends to ask people about their pasts, such as when she asked Gray where he learned his stripping habit or where Erza got her scars from. She also accidentally brought up Lisanna around Natsu, causing him to lash out at her. However, Haru tends to realize that she's wrong and is quick to apologize if she upsets somebody.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Elektra is a Magnetism Wizard, which allows her to repel and attract metallic objects and even use them to form armor or weapons with it.
  • Meaningful Rename: Because she forgot her old name due to living alone in the forest, Natsu gave Haru her new name, "Haru Dragneel" to establish that she was his little sister and thus gave her a new life and purpose.
  • Right Behind Me: In the story, Natsu and Wendy's Day Out, Natsu and Wendy have accidentally demolished a town and pulled an eat-and-run at a restaurant. When Natsu comments that at least Erza isn't around to hear about what they did, Erza speaks up from behind the two Dragon Slayers, who promptly tense up and turn around to see her, as well as the others standing behind them.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Alyssandra Elise II, whom Team Natsu meets during Guardians of the Elise Kingdom, runs away from her homeland to find someone to help save her country when her brother, the king gets manipulated by the arc's Big Bad.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: When Haru first meets Lucy, she asks if she is Natsu's new girlfriend, and she and Natsu are quick to deny it... although Natsu actually asks if Lucy really is his new girlfriend.
  • Ship Tease: There's a ton of this between Natsu and Lucy, and even some with Gray and Juvia and Gajeel and Levy.
  • Shipper on Deck: Around the start, Haru jokingly thought that Natsu and Lucy were a couple. As the stories go on, she begins to actually see the signs that they are attracted to each other and actually hopes that they do get together. She also begins to do the same for Gray and Juvia, and later Gajeel and Levy, as well Erza and Jellal.
  • Team Mom: Elektra Dreyar, Laxus' younger twin sister in the story series, acts like a motherly figure to the younger Fairy Tail members.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Subverted. In the story, A Dragon's Heart, Natsu snaps at Haru for bringing up Lisanna, who everyone believed died two years prior, and Gray scolds him for yelling at her, but it was somewhat justified on Natsu's end, considering that everyone started to tease him about having a crush on Lucy. Haru later admitted that she was wrong to bring up Lisanna and everyone else apologized for teasing Natsu.
  • Wild Child: Haru used to be a feral child living in the forest before she met Natsu and joined Fairy Tail.
