Fanfic / Tales of a Teenage Necromancer

Go To

Tales of a Teenage Necromancer is an Urban Fantasy AU of Worm by Nemesis13. In the aftermath of her mother's death, 13-year-old Taylor Hebert discovers her mother's Necromancy books up in the attic. Hilarity, obviously, ensues.

This fanfic contains examples of the following:

  • Loophole Abuse: Taylor abuses a certain loophole to Hell and back. Although she calls herself a Necromancer, she's technically a Warlock, but there's certain loopholes in the Deal with the Devil pacts that they make for their abilities. Namely, because Taylor has both Divine and Fae blood, she was sufficiently powerful enough to make such a deal with herself, allowing her to set the terms of negotiation. This means that she owes her immortal soul to herself, and the laws of Equivalent Exchange can take a hike.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Every nation in the world collectively shits themselves when Taylor unchains the Simurgh from Eidolon during the Canberra attack, has tea with her, and tries to recruit her.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Piggot's standard of "mundane" was defined by, in her words, "a sword fight with a fucking homunculus housing a Fallen Archangel on a burning Actual Fucking Time Trapped Nazi Zeppelin above the Bermuda Triangle which ends up with you having a one night stand with a merman after crash landing on the remains of Atlantis".
    • Taylor is banned from using area of effect elemental magic without Annette's supervision after she accidentally caused a blizzard that covered the Eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida in a foot of snow.
    • Taylor once reanimated a horde of frozen fowls.
  • Our Demons Are Different: They vary in size and shape, ranging from Succubi and Incubi like Millenia to large scythe-clawed monsters like Steve. All of them can be dealt with using a shotgun.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: They are human enough when in wolf form to play poker on the night of a full moon.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: They come in three varieties- hipsters, posers, and feral monsters. The first group are annoying and sometimes airheaded, the second group are obnoxious, the third have to be culled routinely.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When confronted by a group of Demons, Taylor asks if any of them played Doom.
    • It's mentioned that, even before Capes, Brockton Bay had "an Underworld of magically inclined practitioners and creatures running about".
    • Two of Taylor's neighbors are a couple of Hipster Vampires named Isaac and Miria.
    • Although it's not referred to by name, Taylor has admitted to going on vacation to CedarPoint.
    • Taylor complains about posers who impersonate Lestat, Carmilla, and even Dracula himself.
    • Mab is a lot like the The Dresden Files version of her.
    • A pair looking to talk to Taylor dress up as Fred and Velma.
  • Succubi and Incubi: Taylor's secretary is a succubus named Millenia.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Taylor is the daughter of Annette, who in this universe is the daughter of Mab, and Danny, who is a descendant of Tyr.
