Go To

Sonic Boom Superstars is a Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction written by TailsFan2022.

This is a Sonic Boom adapatation of Sonic Superstars, basically set as a Grand Finale of the series, following Sonic and his friends as seven Chaos Rings have been scattered alongside Bygone Island, and Dr. Eggman is hunting them down for his own purposes. Shadow the Hedgehog is looking for these rings too, for his own purposes. As such, it's up to Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Sticks and their new friend Trip to search the island and find the seven Chaos Rings before Eggman or Shadow get them all.

This story is still ongoing, with twenty-two chapters completed, and deleted scenes being shown here: Deleted Scene 1

Sonic Boom Superstars contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Combining the antics of Sonic Boom with the plot of Sonic Superstars, this follows Team Sonic's journey into collecting the seven Chaos Rings before Dr. Eggman and Shadow can gather them all.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Shadow the Hedgehog, as explained below, goes through a lot of changes, becoming less of an anti-hero, doing anything to get those Chaos Rings.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Shadow the Hedgehog not only KILLS OFF Maria Robotnik in the prologue, but is determined to search for the Chaos Rings for his OWN purposes.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: This story is basically the Sonic Boom iterations of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy going through their version of Sonic Superstars, being different from the original game.
  • Balloonacy: Amy and Sticks are both subjected to inflation scenarios.
  • Berserk Button: Sonic is still a little furious whenever his actions of calling Knuckles's friend "just a guy" gets brought up.
    • Tails recently had a break-up with Zooey (though on good terms), and gets sensitive and surly whenever she gets brought up.
    • In a Deleted Scene from Chapter 1, Knuckles asks Tails if he’s going to help Sticks pick berries from her orchard. The reminder of Tails’ berry picking machine destroying the orchard leaves quite a bad memory for Tails, and it certainly gets under Sticks’ skin.
    • Eggman doesn’t take too kindly to having his precious Egg Mobile stolen by anyone, even his enemies.
  • Big Bad: Dr. Eggman, as always, is the main antagonist of the story, though Shadow the Hedgehog actually comes close as a secondary antagonist.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Dr Eggman and Shadow the Hedgehog are the two main antagonists of the story, but while Eggman has some standards and morals, Shadow has absolutely NONE of those qualities.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Tails gets a moment to shine when he comes to the rescue of Trip the Sungazer when she is threatened upon by the Weasel Bandits.
    • Later, Team Rose (Amy, Sticks and Trip) come to rescue Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) when they get trapped by Eggman and Charlie in water-drowning pods.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: As expected from the Sonic Boom characters, most exemplified with the first chapter where Dr. Eggman is excited to be part of a third season, only for Orbot and Cubot to point out that this isn't a real season, but in fact, a series finale fanfiction acting as a wrap up for the show.
  • CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: Trip gives Tails mouth to mouth breathing resuscitation to bring him back to life after he nearly drowns, much to Sticks’ disgust.
  • Crush Blush: Tails and Trip both repeatedly blush around each other in adorable ways, hinting they may have feelings for each other.
  • Darker and Edgier: While the original Sonic Boom is mainly lighthearted and funny, the story takes some dark turns whenever Shadow shows up. The opening prologue establishes this by showing Maria Robotnik, here depicted as a hedgehog girl, getting killed by Shadow, thereby setting the darker tone of the story.
  • Death by Adaptation: In the prologue, Shadow the Hedgehog actually kills off Maria Robotnik, right after she sends the seven Chaos Rings in different parts of Bygone Island.
  • Dull Surprise: Eggman is not in the least bit surprised at seeing Trip flying with her membrane wings.
Eggman: Of course, the lizard flies.
  • Epic Fail: When Dave sees the riderless Eggman bike hurtling towards him from behind, courtesy of Sonic and Knuckles, he tries to speed up and outrun it, only to wind up putting the brakes on instead and he gets sent skyrocketing into the air as a result.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While Eggman seems to regret constructing Mombot, when questioned why he doesn’t just destroy her, the doctor simply replies that Mombot is still part of the Eggman family.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While he wants the Chaos Rings and intends to stop Team Sonic anyway he can, Eggman is genuinely uncomfortable with how unhinged and childish Charlie becomes when he tries to usurp him and take the rings for himself.
  • Evil Overlord: Shadow sees himself as the overlord of the universe, and intends to use the Chaos Rings to achieve this.
    • Charlie attempts to be this himself when he tries to usurp Eggman, but quickly gets his butt kicked by Team Sonic and Team Rose.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: In a reference to A Christmas Carol (2009), Amy uses the Bullet Chaos Ring to achieve a rocket blast power up to fly her team out of the water temple through the ceiling. It takes Trip and Sticks a few seconds to realize what she’s doing before they all get sent blasting off out of the temple.
  • Gatling Good: Or rather ‘bad’. Charlie’s mech suit comes equipped with a built-in mini gun blaster arm that shoots rapid fire laser bullets at his targets.
    • Later, Shadow rips the weapon straight from the destroyed mech suit and attempts to use it on Team Sonic. He quickly destroys the weapon after finding it to be a less-than-reliable weapon.
  • Goomba Stomp: Sticks stomps on Amy’s foot to get her to open her mouth, allowing her to put the bike pump hose in the hedgehog’s mouth and inflate her.
  • Grand Finale: As mentioned, this story is an ending of the Sonic Boom series.
  • High-Speed Hijack: In the beginning of the desert canyon chase, Amy, Sticks and Knuckles hijack the Egg Mobile by throwing Eggman out of it and enter the chase with it. Eggman is less than pleased about this.
Eggman: Nobody plays ‘Grand Theft Hedgehog’ and steals my Egg Mobile!
  • Inflating Body Gag: In a shout-out to Inspector Gadget, Tails wears an orange inflatable coat with blue trousers that he uses to float around in.
    • In a later chapter, to get through an obstacle that’s a river rapids system inside of a water temple cave, Sticks uses a bike pump she stole to inflate Amy Rose into a makeshift inflatable life raft for Sticks and Trip to ride the rapids with, despite Amy’s strong objections. Sticks had to stomp Amy on the foot and make her shout in order to get the air hose into her mouth.
    • A couple chapters later, Amy gets her revenge on Sticks for the aforementioned life boat incident by blowing air into her mouth via puff kiss inflation and makes her into a makeshift air mattress to sleep on. She does this, not only to get payback on Sticks inflating her, but also because the badger tries to read her romance guide book and disregarding her privacy.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: Team Rose go over a waterfall whilst inside the water temples.
  • Jerkass: Shadow the Hedgehog was already bad enough in the TV series canon, with him trying to destroy the universe in Eggman: The Video Game - Part 2 being an infamous example, but here, he’s even worse. He mercilessly killed Maria Robotnik and drops her dead body off a cliff out of petty spite because she hid the Chaos Rings away from him, and he is perfectly willing to injure and kill those who stand in his way to get the seven rings in hand.
  • Jerkass Ball: Knuckles can sometimes be rude and insensitive to Trip, much to Tails’ severe annoyance.
  • Manchild: Charlie the Rat throws a complete temper tantrum like an immature child when Team Sonic begin tearing apart his mech suit. Even Eggman couldn’t stand hearing this little runt screaming his head off.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Weasel Bandits are sent running away with their tails between their legs when Tails fires his handgun blasters at them.
    • Tails’ reaction when Burnbot puncture his inflatable coat during the canyon chase battle.
    • As in the series, Sonic doesn’t take it too well whenever water is brought up. Taken up to eleven when he’s put into a water drowning pod by Eggman and Charlie.
  • Nice Girl: Trip is very well mannered, kind hearted and sweet to her new friends in Team Sonic. Just don’t try and provoke her, or she will retaliate against you.
  • Nice Guy: Tails is the first person to show Trip kindness and compassion towards her after he meets her in the crystal cave. It’s one of the reasons why Trip begins to fall in love with him.
  • Not So Above It All: Sticks is normally very suspicious and uneasy around new people she meets, but when she meets Trip after the latter lifts her helmet and shows her face, Sticks cannot help but gush over how adorable she is.
  • Playing with Fire: When wielding the red Chaos ring, it gives the user the ability to use fire type attacks.
  • Ramming Always Works: Sonic and Knuckles dispose of Dave during the canyon chase by ramming one of Eggman’s bikes into the back of him, which results in Dave getting catapulted into the air and flying away into the distance.
Dave: I HATE GETTING BLUE SHELLED!
  • Self-Deprecation: Team Sonic don’t tend to look back at the events of Rise of Lyric very often.
Knuckles: And that is often regarded as one of our worst adventures.
  • Shout-Out: Every chapter of this story always has a shout-out to Sonic lore and media.
  • Sixth Ranger: Trip joins Team Sonic in their quest to find the seven Chaos Rings.
  • Tempting Fate: As Amy plans to get revenge on her best friend for the life raft stunt in the water temple, and for trying to read her book, Sticks thinks that she can’t use the bike pump to inflate her without letting the badger go. Amy, however, resorts to using her strong lungs to inflate the badger.
Sticks: Good luck trying to inflate me then, bestie! I’ve still got the bike pump in my back pocket, and you can’t reach it without letting me go!
Amy: (smirking) Oh, I won’t be needing that little bike pump for this, bestie…
  • The Reveal: While free-falling out of the water temple following the aforementioned rocket escape sequence, Trip saves her friends by revealing a secret set of flying membrane wings that are hidden inside her arms and legs, giving her the ability to fly and glide in the air. Trip likes to think of her flying as ‘falling with style’.
    • In Chapter 19, Shadow the Hedgehog is revealed to be an ANDROID ROBOT constructed by Dr Gerald Robotnik over 50 years ago, with a computerised POV system and video replay system to boot. It’s not the first time that Shadow has been seen as an Android robot.
  • Undying Loyalty: Trip is so thankful to Tails for saving her life and being so kind to her, that she becomes incredibly loyal to him, and even becomes his battle partner. Her loyalty also contributes to her growing feelings of love for him.
