Go To

Raz's Regretful Realm is a Psychonauts fanfic by SneaselXRiolu.

With Raz's mind in rotation to be explored by his fellow Junior Agents, things spiral out of control, leading to most people Raz knows going into his mind. But things are not as peachy as Raz's surface demeanor leads on. With the groups splitting up for this exploration they find trauma and emotions that Raz himself isn't wanting to deal with.

Razs Regretful Realm contains examples of:

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Played for drama with Agent, a cognitive representation of a 10 year old who smokes.
  • Ascended Extra: Only being mentioned in regards to Compton or Sam in Psychonauts 2, Dogen shows up with Lili, chasing after Loboto into Raz's head and joining Sasha and Milla with Camper.
  • Cerebus Retcon:
    • While the player knows that the Thorney Tower residents (likely) escaped without much trouble, with Fred, Edgar and Gloria being outside of the tower's courtyard as Boyd set it on fire, nobody in the story knows this, presuming them to be dead.
    • The Memory Morgue shows various scenes from Raz's perspective... only with added details and warping that put those scenes in a darker light. Namely Ford asking Raz to help fight against Oleander and Loboto, with Raz stating that he just came to Whispering Rock to learn how to be a Psychonaut. Hollis lampshades it by having Oleander write down how many people she has to talk to after everything is done.
  • Decomposite Character: Similar to Ford and Cassie, there are five entities in Raz's mind representing him and his various troubles. Zombie is a plush doll found in the circus, bullied and belittled by his family, Jackalope is a jackalope in the Memory Morgue, Agent is a Psychonaut agent in the city that neglects his own problems while searching for Emotional Baggage and tags, Camper is a wooden puppet in the Whispering Rock area that tries to fit in with the campers, and Warden is a Heavy Censor protecting the other Razes.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Nightmare King, the representation of Raz's resentments.
  • Fantastic Racism: Donatella, even after the curse has been proven fake, still believes in it and uses it as an excuse to hate psychics.
  • Making a Splash: Agent is still struggling with hydrokinesis, but he shows some conscious control over it now.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The journey into Raz's psyche causes many characters to be stricken with guilt for how they have hurt or been unfair to Raz.
  • Old Shame: The interns when they rewatch their antics from Raz’s memories.
  • Punny Name: Raz-Ent-Ment is Camper's monstrous form, being a wooden puppet turned giant.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When Weeping Whale shows up, Nona gets very angry at it for eating her great nephew. Once the Psychic Seven get onto the SS TPG, she spends the whole ordeal chasing after the whale, tossing Emotional Baggage at it with her telekinesis.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Raz's mind is split into four areas, each representing a part of himself.
    • The camp area represents his time at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp, Camper trying to act like an actual kid but still finding himself uncomfortable.
    • The city area represents Raz's duties as a Psychonaut while also neglecting his own issues, Agent searching for Emotional Baggage tags without trying to accept anybody else's help. Weeping Whale is the result of the baggage becoming too much to keep buried down, trying and failing to draw itself under the water.
    • The circus area represents Raz with his family, or more specifically his family's abuse. Like Mental Augustus, evil zombie versions of Donatella, Frazie, Dion, Queepie, Mirtala and Nona are also present alongside a tiny plush zombie version of Razputin, constantly being bullied by his family.
    • The graveyard area stores Raz's memories.
    • Alongside the other Razes is a Heavy Censor wearing his clothing called Warden, who shows higher intelligence than a normal Censor, keeping the other Razes safe from harm while also fighting off intruders.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Loboto, when the Nightmare King appears.
  • Stepford Smiler: Raz kept up a cheerful, friendly attitude throughout the games, but this fic shows that he's really not in a good mental state, with Memory Morgue showing he was this during the games as well.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Everything about the SS TPG references Lily in an affectual context, with Helmut and Bob even agreeing that he's probably got it worse than they do.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Hollis towards the interns after seeing the memories about how they hazed Raz, stole his clothes, and tricked him into rewiring her brain and giving her a temporary gambling addiction, the latter of which the adults thought Raz did on his own and was punished for at the time.
