This fanfic series provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In the games, it's implied that Sasha and Milla are in a relationship. Here, they end up marrying each other a few years after Milla adopts Raz.
    • In Psychonauts 2, the various interns start out hostile towards Raz — even accusing him of being The Mole in Norma's case — before slowly warming up to him over the course of the game. Here, Raz winds up becoming The Baby of the Bunch amongst them, Norma and Lizzie taking on the role of his "big sisters."
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • This version of Razputin was separated from his family at age five, suffering from retrograde-amnesia, leaving him unaware of his origins except for his first name. While he doesn't remember it, him surviving falling off a cliff had left him with basophobia, or a fear of falling, giving him panic attacks whenever its triggered. Later chapters reveal that his experiences had left his obsessions with learning the truth of who he is to manifest as a Maligula-esq Superpowered Evil Side named Razgado which manifests when he finds the Aquatos.
    • In-turn, the rest of the Aquato Family believe that one of their children had died, falling off a cliff and drowned in a river, their belief in the Hand of Galochio preventing them from finding them. Dion feels immeasurable guilt for it since he was the one trying to watch out for him. By the time they discover that he's alive and well, they have to accept that they can't have him back because if they took it to court, the courts would favor Milla both because of the living conditions she provides and the circumstances of their separation.
  • Adaptational Badass: Zig-Zagged. On the one hand, this version of Raz has lived most of his life at the Motherlobe among psychics and adults willing to teach him how to use his powers. This, combined with lacking the superstitious belief in the Hand of Galochio, led to him being a gifted hydrokinetic. On the other hand, he lacks a lot of his canon-counterpart's physical skills due to not living like an acrobat.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: In 2, Nick Johnsmith/Gristol Malik, manages to orchestrate his Evil Plan (which included infiltrating the Psychonauts, brainwashing Dr. Loboto, swapping bodies with Truman, manipulating Raz and eventually uncovering the Maligula Conspiracy) all by himself. Here, it was a cult of Delugionists who got him into the Psychonauts, only for him to quit when he fails to find Maligula. It also doesn't occur to him that the Delugionists want Maligula for reasons unrelated to him and his rightful place as Grulovia's Gzar, The Omniscient Council of Vagueness managing to easily fool him into thinking that they were going to make him their leader (as he petulantly demanded) before killing him.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While Norma was a Hate Sink in 2, here she has taken the role of "big sister" to Raz, still the type to tease him but otherwise better.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: While Raz is still a Child Prodigy when it comes to his Psychic Powers and other Psychonauts-based weirdness, his life living in the Motherlobe amongst psychics ironically gave him a more conventional childhood than his canon-counterpart. This version of Raz isn't as precocious as Razputin Aquato, treating the adults in his life less like peers and more like... well, the adults in his life. His amnesia had also resulted in a lot of repressed trauma that leads to panic attacks and other negative reactions, his repressed memories and the trauma and angst associated with it resulting in a Maligula-esq personality that surfaces it when he's reunited with his birth family.
  • Death by Adaptation: Ford Cruller and Nona Aquato/Lucricia Mux both die of natural causes a year before what would have been the events of Psychonauts 2.
  • Fling a Light into the Future: With considerable effort, Ford managed to project a small part of his consciousness into Raz's mind before he died, the Ford Raz meets in his subconscious being what's left of Ford post-mortem.
  • For Want Of A Nail: After Milla and Sasha bring back Raz to the Motherlobe, it brought up Oleander's trauma and he signs up for therapy, allowing him to work through his issues before Whispering Rock's psitanium made it worse and ending his Evil Plan in Psychonauts before it ever started.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • While the circumstances of Raz's presence at the Motherlobe are completely different, Raz still winds up exploring Helmut, Compton, Bob and Cassie's minds and fixes their respective minds much like his canon-counterpart.
      • While Raz alerts Otto of Helmut's brain in the Brainframe, Raz still has to go in Helmut's mind to help him process his sensory overload and regain all of his memories. In this case, it's due a malfunction in Otto's machine meant to ease Helmut into it one at a time.
      • While this version of Helmut meets with Bob before Raz can fix him, Bob is too far into his alcohol-infused angst to listen. When Raz and Helmut enter his mind, Helmut is too weak to stay and his astral projection fades out, leaving Raz to fix things himself.
    • Even with Nona dead in this version, the story still ends with a volatile hydrokinetic rampaging across Green Needle Gulch and the Quarry. In this case, it's Raz.
  • Incest Subtext: With Norma as Raz's honorary sister and Frazie his actual sister, the both of them like to Squick him out by getting affectionate around him, since he's basically watching his two sisters kiss each other.
  • Mundane Utility: Raz's Psychic Block Defense makes him the perfect companion to visit Compton Boole, since his Telepathy-based Power Incontinence makes being around other people difficult for him.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, something happened between Raz and Lili during Milla and Sasha's wedding that brought to light their mutual crush towards each other.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Raz seems to find Milla and Sasha being affectionate with one another rather exasperating.
  • Polyamory: Compton Boole implies that he, his wife and Cassie O'Pia had an "understanding."
  • Precocious Crush:
    • After Lizzie gives him a kiss as part of some light teasing, Raz winds up developing a crush on her. After a quick heart to heart, the two of them manage to diffuse it before it escalates.
    • Gisu tells Raz that she had a crush on a much older teenager. She spent years without telling him, only to suffer heartbreak when she found out that he was gay.
    • Lizzie confesses to Raz that she can relate to Raz's crush on her because she had a crush on Milla Vodello.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • After Nona Aquato dies, Augustin's astralathe-induced conditioning unravels and he remembers the truth. This leads to the rest of the Aquatos trying to most past their Fantastic Racism against psychics, even incorporating pyrokinesis into their act.
    • Originally, Norma and Lizzie's dad was a regressive man who had very specific ideas on how his daughters should behave. After suffering from a heart-attack, it gave him time to reflect and he changed for the better, coming to accept his daughters for who they were.
  • Trauma Button: Raz suffers from basophobia, or a fear of falling, and tends to freak out when someone he doesn't knowing picking him up or being dropped out of nowhere. Reactions range from seizing up to full-on panic attacks.
