Fanfic / My Hero Academia Marvel-verse

Go To

MHA Universe 2020: MHA Marvel-verse is a series of fanfics by Spider-Izuku that blends characters from the Marvel Comics and My Hero Academia. An Alternate Universe for the series called My Hero Academia Spiderverse was eventually released, focusing more on the Spider-Man characters instead of the entire Marvel Universe.

  • Izuku Midoriya: Spider-Man Plus Ultra!: The first story in the series. Izuku Midoriya used to be a Quirkless boy. Until that fateful day where one of his father's genetically modified spiders bit him, gifting him with powers beyond anything he could have imagined. Now able to live his dream, he'll show U.A. High School and the world that he's got what it takes to be one of their greatest heroes. "My name is Izuku Midoriya. Spider-Man Plus Ultra!" Can be read on Fanfiction.net and Archiveofourown.org

This series of fanfics provides examples of:

  • The Ace: All Might is still the number one hero in Japan, but other countries have their own Pro Hero Lists. In America the top three heroes are Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.
  • Action Bomb: The Hobgoblin's powers go out of control when he fights All Might and he ends up blowing up.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Nezu laughs when Eri calls him a stuffed animal, saying that's a new one.
  • Adaptational Badass: Ochako becomes the bearer of One For All in this series.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Eri and Overhaul make an appearance before Izuku and Bakugou even enroll at UA, long before their official debut.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Bakugou is much nicer here than he is in canon. Whereas in the very first episode of the anime, Bakugou mocked Izuku for his dream of being a hero due to being Quirkless and told him to go kill himself, here he is openly enraged when his two lackeys mock Izuku for his dad dying and insinuate that it was because of him. After learning how Izuku got powers from the spider bite, the two of them also become friends again.
  • Adaptation Origin Connection:
    • Unless stated otherwise, characters from Marvel derive certain abilities they had in the comics from Quirks, such as Iron Man's technopathy. The author has stated that any character in Marvel canon who was either not from Earth or had their powers through magic will be unchanged.
    • Iron Man mentions he worked a case with All Might back when All Might was studying in the United States. All Might actually gave Iron Man the idea for one of his armors (back when he was still using his silver Mark II armor).
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of receiving One For All, Izuku is given powers similar to Spider-Man after being bitten by a genetically modified spider. Because of this, Ochako becomes the new bearer of One for All, while still keeping her original Gravity Quirk.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Iron Man arrives to save Izuku, Hisashi, and the Board of Directors from the Inner Demons.
    • All Might arrives just in time to save Izuku and Katsuki from Hobgoblin.
  • Body Horror: Izuku notices that Hobgoblin has black patches of skin on his hands, meaning he is burning himself with his own flames. By the end of his fight with All Might, after Hobgoblin's powers go out of control and he ends up blowing himself up, his body shrinks down to normal size before bursting into blue flames and by the time the flames are put out all that's left of him is a charred and burned skeleton.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Hobgoblin ends up burning himself with his flames.
  • Death by Origin Story: Just like any version of Spider-Man, Izuku Midoriya's dad, Hisashi, is killed the same day Izuku gets his Quirk, killed by an Inner Demon while saving his son.
  • Disappeared Dad: Hisashi Midoriya's job constantly takes him overseas to the United States, giving him little time to spend with his son. The times they do get to spend together are usually fun due to Hisashi's job though. This becomes permanent when Hisashi is killed by an Inner Demon while protecting his son.
  • Easily Forgiven: Izuku holds no ill-will towards Bakugou for the years of bullying he put him through due to being Quirkless. Bakugou even calls him out on being too nice to him after all he's done, to which Izuku responds that Bakugou is just a by-product of a society that praises powerful Quirks and it went to his head, something he doesn't hold against him.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Bakugou might have bullied Izuku for being Quirkless, but he is absolutely enraged when his two lackeys mock Izuku for his dad dying, and imply he committed suicide because of his son, he blows up at them with rage and threatens them to never mess with Izuku again.
  • Evil Knockoff: Hobgoblin is mockingly called a "discount Endeavor", since not only are his flames weaker he also ends up burning himself when he uses them.
  • Femme Fatale: Black Widow as per usual. She even has it as her full hero name: "The Femme Fatale Heroine, Black Widow".
  • Frying Pan of Doom: When Izuku's mom discovers that Izuku was bitten by a spider due to the cage not being properly locked, she berates his dad for not being careful while using her Telekinesis Quirk to grab a frying pan and hit him on the head with it.
  • Happily Adopted: Inko decides to adopt Eri to give her a happy and loving home, and also because she sees how attached Eri has become to Izuku due to him being the first person to show her actual kindness and believing separating them won't be a good idea.
  • Humble Hero: All Might might be the Symbol of Peace and the Number 1 Pro Hero in Japan, but he has stated he believes that Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, is an even greater hero than him.
  • In a Single Bound: Similar to canon, Izuku can leap great distances with a single jump, due to the spider that bit him being a Jumping Spider.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Izuku's habit of mumbling to himself is something his dad always did when he was his age too.
  • Madness Mantra: Eri repeats "Not again. Not again. Please stop. Please stop." again and again to herself when she sees a doctor pull out a small needle to take a blood sample. Given what she suffered under Overhaul, this is an understandable reaction.
  • Mythology Gag: There are a few easter eggs and references to various bits of Marvel.
    • The spiders that Hisashi has experimented on are colored like the various spider-themed heroes in Marvel and are shown to possess similar powers as them.
    • Hisashi and the Board of Directors are kept on the 66th floor on CyberMax. This references Spider-Man: Edge of Time, which had another tragedy on the 66th floor of Alchemax.
    • Izuku remembers how in 2012 aliens invaded New York and the top six American Pro Heroes (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye) worked together to stop them. Gee, doesn't that sound familiar?
    • Izuku shouting "LANGUAGE!" during his battle with Shocker brings to mind the (in)famous moment when Captain America shouted the same thing in the opening moments of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
    • Iron Man's Quirk seems similar to the Extremis Virus from the comics.
  • Noodle Incident: Izuku's narration when he infiltrates CyberMax via the air vent mentions a time he went through a dirty air vent in a skyscraper in Nagasaki before getting back on topic.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: Izuku reminds Bakugou not to swear in front of Eri, a little girl. Bakugou for his part agrees with this and makes sure not to use his usual cursing in front of her. The worst he does is flip Shocker the bird after making sure Eri isn't looking.
  • Not So Invincible After All: Discussed between Iron Man and Izuku. When Izuku is mourning the death of his dad and how he could have prevented it if he had reacted faster, Tony takes a moment to talk to Izuku about how heroes can't always save everyone. The people like to think they are invincible, that they never lose fights to villains and always save everyone in danger because that's how good they are, but that unfortunately isn't the case, since they are just as human as everyone else. Tony even says he has lost fights to villains and had to be saved by another hero, or failed to save someone in danger. It is likely even All Might failed to save plenty of people. All they can really do is get back up every time they get knocked down, keep going at it, and appreciate all the lives they do save.
  • Playing with Fire: The Hobgoblin has destructive fire powers similar to Endeavor, but it is noted that his are much weaker and that unlike Endeavor he is burning his own hands with his flames.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Kenji Tsuragamae, the chief of police, outright admits he thinks that Izuku and Bakugou were justified in using their Quirks against Shocker despite not having licenses to use Quirks in public, since they were trying to save Eri and pretty much did everything right. He only gives them a half-hearted lecture about it because "rules are rules".
  • Shooting Superman: Several Inner Demons try shooting Iron Man when he arrives to save the hostages on the 66th floor. This naturally accomplishes nothing and he quickly takes them all down.
  • Super-Power Meltdown: Hobgoblin's powers are unstable and go out of his control during his battle with All Might. This results in Hobgoblin blowing himself up in a giant fiery explosion.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Izuku tries to channel his inner Solid Snake and sneak past an Inner Demon using a cardboard box. He is promptly captured and held hostage.
  • Taking the Bullet: Hisashi shoves Izuku out of the way when an Inner Demon tries to shoot him, taking it himself and immediately dying.
  • Training from Hell: Bakugou subjects Izuku to this to help him properly use his new powers.
  • Trauma Button: Due to what she went through with Overhaul, Eri is absolutely terrified of doctors. She freaks out when one pulls out a needle to take a small blood sample from her and goes into a Madness Mantra until Izuku calms her down, and even then it takes an hour before she even lets the doctors do simple things with her.
  • Witness Protection: After Izuku and Bakugou have their faces shown on the news with Eri after Shocker's arrest, everyone realizes it is only a matter of time before whoever is after Eri comes after the two of them and their families as well to get to her. So, the two of them and their families are moved into the UA dorms where they will be better protected until whoever is after Eri can be arrested.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The Inner Demons have no issue threatening a kid like Izuku the same way they do everyone else at CyberMax, one notable member even trying to shoot Izuku after all the other Demons had been dealt with by Iron Man.
  • You Talk Too Much!: All Might says this to Shocker after smashing him.
