MHA Universe 2020B: MHA Marvel-verse is a series of fanfics by Spider-Izuku that blends characters from the Spider-Man franchise and My Hero Academia. It serves as a Spin-Off and Alternate Universe from it's sister-series My Hero Academia Marvel-verse.

  • Musutafu's Spectacular Spider-Man Season 1: The first story of the series. Izuku Midoriya starts his first year in the UA Support Course while also working as Musutafu's soon-to-be most famous vigilante, the Spectacular Spider-Man! Can be read on Fanfiction.net, Archiveofourown.org, and Tumblr.com.

This series of fanfics provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Mei Hatsume and Lady Nagant both appear in the first chapter of Season 1 at the start of UA's term, instead of the Sports Festival and Paranormal Liberation War respectively.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Lady Nagant is working at UA instead of being imprisoned in Tartarus. In Chapter 4 it is revealed she operates as The Prowler on orders from Nezu.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Izuku in Canon wasn't an idiot, but his intelligence was mostly in his hobby of analyzing Quirks. Here, he's not only smart enough to create an AI, but he also scored first place on the UA Support Course Entrance Exam, as well as making the Web Shooters and all the tech in his Classic Spider-Man costume.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Ochako and Toga go from being each other's Arch-Enemy to best friends.
    • In canon, Izuku continued to be nice to Bakugou even when he bullied him relentlessly and never stood up for himself against him. Here though, Izuku doesn't bother putting up with him and shows him none of the respect he does for everyone else. This is best shown how Izuku does not call Bakugou his Affectionate Nickname "Kacchan" here and even curses at him.
    • In canon, Fuyumi and Kaina have never met, and their sexualities have never been brought up. Here, the two are both lesbians and are dating, with Midnight even joking when they're going to get married.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Lady Nagant is a lesbian here, dating Fuyumi Todoroki and getting angry when Nezu teases her over it.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Like in ''My Hero Academia Marvel-verse', Izuku gains the powers of Spider-Man instead of One For All. He also has his own Venom Blast, like Miles Morales.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Aizawa was Class 1-A's homeroom teacher in canon, and despite being a Lazy Bum he showed he did care about his students and pushed them to achieve their full potential. Here however, his laziness and apathy not only lead to him eventually getting fired, it is eventually revealed that not only has he expelled multiple students throughout his years as a teacher, he has been involved with 32 of his students getting kidnapped, and it is revealed he has a prejudice against those with flashy and or powerful Quirks due to failing his Entrance exam and feeling it was rigged against people like him.
  • Berserk Button: Stone gets really riled up when Spider-Man calls him "Gravel-boy", enough to charge at him like a rampaging rhinoceros.
  • Benevolent A.I.: Deku's AI, DECA. It is a very advanced AI that was capable of learning and adapting, and helps Izuku both in his heroics as Spider-Man and with looking after himself, making sure he stays healthy.
  • Beta Outfit: Izuku's first Spider-Man costume and equipment are all pretty cheap, due to him only being a vigilante for a few months. He plans to upgrade his stuff when he has access to UA's Support Course. The costume was eventually destroyed after his first fight with the Fixers.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • After he attacked Izuku in the design studio, everyone in Class 1-A hates Bakugo almost instantly.
    • Downplayed; Bakugo admits that All Might admonishing him for "bullying Deku" hasn't destroyed the pedestal he put All Might on, but has cracked it. Along with that, the idea of Izuku being allowed to so much as attend UA despite being Quirkless has "corrupted" how he views the school.
  • Death by Adaptation: By the start of the first chapter of Season 1, Izuku's mother has been dead for six months where as she is obviously alive and well in canon. Her death, as well as Izuku's father, serves as a Death by Origin Story for Izuku.
  • Deconstruction Fic: The second chapter deconstructs several parts about U.A. Lady Nagant inspects the costumes of the Class 1-A students, pointing out several flaws in them, with the biggest offenders being Toru basically running around naked, Yaoyorozu's being incredibly revealing, and Bakugou basically carrying around firearms with his gauntlets which could potentially kill someone. Also, All Might isn't well liked by the other teachers since he doesn't have a teaching degree, and his idea of having an indoor battle trial on just the first day of class is pointed out to be very stupid and dangerous.
  • Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: Bakugo hates Izuku so much that the idea of him actually attending UA, even if it's just the Support Course, infuriates him. Furthermore, the idea that Izuku was allowed to continue existing is something he considers "a crime against nature" and proof that "Darwin's Theory of Evolution works too slow."
  • Freudian Excuse: Aizawa had a really shitty childhood, with his parents being killed when he was five and bouncing from one terrible foster home to another, where he was regularly abused in multiple ways. Then when he enrolled at UA he developed a grudge against those with flashy or powerful Quirks, due to him failing the Entrance exam and feeling it was rigged against people like him (despite it being pointed out to him there were multiple ways he could have passed).
  • Hand Signals: When Spider-Man and The Prowler first meet, spotting each other while both are watching three criminals robbing a jewelry store, they silently communicate with JSL to agree to take them down together.
  • Heroic Rematch: Spider-Man's first fight with the Fixers goes badly due to them getting the drop on him, with him only barely escaping due to the discovery of his Venom powers. His second encounter with them goes much better, due to having upgraded his tech and now having surprise on his side.
  • Groin Attack: Spider-Man kicking Grizzly in the "pic-a-nic baskets".
  • Insane Troll Logic: We get a glimpse of Bakugou's thought process in "The Spider Meets The Prowler" and see he pretty much runs on this. Just to list a few: he believes he didn't "verbally assault" Deku because he never laid a hand on him and you can't hurt someone with words unless they're a "pansy-ass", he thinks that Quirks are meant to be used the same as any part of your body, even to threaten someone, he believes he couldn't have used a 'Quirkist Slur' on him because he doesn't have a Quirk, and he thinks that heroes like All Might and the Top 10 aren't remembered for saving people but for the epic fights against strong villains and for the biblical beatdowns they gave.
  • Invisible Streaker: This is defied by Toru, unlike in canon, and is deconstructed when her hero "costume" is revealed to be just a pair of gloves and boots. She is utterly livid at how insulting and idiotic that is, pointing out she'll be powerless if someone grabs her like that, and that she'll freeze running around naked in Winter. It is even pointed out how there are apparently costumes that can become invisible or transparent with their wearer, making this "costume" even more idiotic.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Spider-Man saving Ochako from some rapists is a homage to when Peter saved Mary Jane in the rain in the original Sam Raimi movie, excluding the famous upside down kiss.
    • Spider-Man pointing out the misconception that spiders aren't insects but arachnids is like Spidey's first encounter with the Green Goblin in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
  • Out-Gambitted: After the Fixers find the tracker Spider-Man planted on Stone, they try to use it to lure him into a trap. However, instead of just going straight to the Spider-Tracer, Spider-Man scopes out the area and discovers the ambush they have prepared, and goes in stealthy to take them by surprise.
  • Secret Identity Vocal Shift: Izuku uses a voice modulator to disguise his voice as Spider-Man. Word of God explains that this disguised voice sounds like Josh Keaton. Though the voice modulator was damaged after Spider-Man's first battle with the Fixers, which leads to Ochako recognizing Izuku's real voice.
  • Secret-Keeper: Ochako accidentally figures out that Izuku is Spider-Man due to recognizing his voice after his voice modulator is damaged. Izuku secretly passes her a note saying they'll talk later.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Eisely District of Musutafu is an obvious one to the city of the same name from A New Hope, even being described as a "Wretched Hive" like the Trope Namer.
    • Spider-Man jokes that he kicked Grizzly in the "the pic-a-nic baskets", even namedropping Boo-Boo.
    • Kaina has a strong "no capes" stance on superhero costumes, unless they serve some sort of practical purpose to assist a Quirk or glide like Batman.
    • Kaina's ringtone for her girlfriend, Fuyumi Todoroki, is the song "Loser, Baby" from Hazbin Hotel.
  • Story Arc:
    • Arc 1: Rise of the Spider. Chapters 1-3.
    • Arc 2: Lab of Monsters. Chapters 4-?
  • Suspiciously Clean Criminal Record: Bakugo's school records from Aldera paint him as a perfect student, with no disciplinary marks, and all his teachers praising him for his high potential to the point Lady Nagant says you'd swear the kid is "the second coming of Jesus Christ". She and Nezu realize his records were obviously tampered with just from seeing his performance in the Entrance Exam.
  • Take That!:
    • Not only is Lady Nagant the new homeroom teacher of Class 1-A due to what Aizawa did last year, forcing Nezu to make sure the teachers were actually doing their jobs, he takes a potshot at Aizawa later when Lady Nagant rhetorically asks him if she looks like Aizawa to him, with him responding no since she actually cares about the students and doesn't intentionally dress like a homeless person.
    • Lady Nagant puts Class 1-A's hero costumes through inspection. Some of them have a few minor notes like needing more cover or removing unnecessary parts, others have major problems points out, like how Toru's is basically her running around naked with just a pair of boots and gloves and how Bakugou's gauntlets count as firearms, which are forbidden for First Year students.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: During their team up fight, Prowler takes down Sasori with a clothesline.
