Amity went through the door after Luz. Now she’s trapped on the other side of the portal you just destroyed.
Emira Blight, setting up the plot quite handily

Summer has come to an end, and it's time for Luz to return home to Camila. Amity only finds the courage to tell her friend how she feels about her when the door closes behind Luz, and makes the rash decision to follow her.

Then something goes wrong, stranding Amity with Luz, far away from everything she’s ever known.

Meanwhile, life soldiers on in the Boiling Isles, but unbeknownst to Amity, her disappearance will radically alter the lives of those close to her. Eda, Edric, Emira, Willow and Gus resolve to do everything in their power to bring her back, but not without facing challenges of their own.

Locked Out is an Alternate Universe Hurt/Comfort, Slow Burn Owl House fanfiction written by EleenaDume, notable for being the first fic to explore the Fandom-Specific Plot of Amity Blight being locked in the Human Realm at an extended length. The story is dormant, having last updated on September 13th, 2021, but the author has stated plans to finish it in the future.

Not to be confused with the SuperMarioLogan episode.

Locked Out contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Par for the course with the Blights — only even more so than in canon. As Edric and Emira learn, Odalia and Alador were both made aware that Amity was trapped in the human realm and decided not to do anything about it, in the name of retaining the Emperor's favor. Odalia also slaps Edric, which is part of what sends Emira to her Rage Breaking Point.
  • Alternate Universe Fic:
    • By virtue of being written before the airing of "Agony of a Witch" and "Young Blood, Old Souls", the events of those two episodes do not occur; Luz finishes her summer in the Isles without incident and never has a direct encounter with Emperor Belos.
    • Amity's scroll works in the Human Realm, although the signal is notably terrible. In canon, Luz's messages to her mother won't send because there's nothing connecting to the satellite network back on Earth, so the inverse would presumably hold true for the scrolls.
    • Here, Luz is able to use glyphs to heal Amity's burns from the portal explosion, whereas Luz's attempts to use her glyphs in the Human Realm fail thanks to a lack of Titan’s Blood.
    • Eda built the portal herself instead of stumbling across it while running away from home.
    • Alador's characterization is more in-line with his depiction in "Understanding Willow", meaning that he's far less of an Accomplice by Inaction when it comes to his and Odalia's brand of parenting.
    • Vee isn’t present, so where the letters that Camila received over the summer came from is unknown.
    • Using magic in the human realm puts a strain on Amity, with one healing spell knocking her out for close to a day and a half. In canon, the Hexsquad is seen using magic regularly with no ill effects.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": After arriving in the Human Realm, Amity threatens Luz's electric toothbrush, which she mistakes for a toothbrush demon.
  • Content Warnings: Chapter 8 deals heavily with the abusive Blight family relationship, with a quick summary of the chapter being contained in the bottom notes for those who wished to skip the chapter, but not lose any context.
  • Enforced Method Acting: In-Universe: Amity asks Ed and Em to make her cry so that she can believably sell the notion that she's been disowned to Camila. It works, albeit a little too well.
  • Everyone Can See It: The Blight Twins, Willow, Eda, Camila... It's easier to name the people who don't notice Luz and Amity's mutual crushing.
  • Interrupted Declaration of Love: Just as Amity is about to confess, the portal behind her explodes.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Due to Amity staying out of contact with the Twins, Amity doesn’t know that they ran away from home, so when Amity hears that they’ve been staying in the Owl House for extended periods, she tells them to go back to the manor so as not to get in trouble with their parents.
  • Non Fatal Explosion: Downplayed. Although Luz and Amity aren't instantly killed by the portal door's explosion, Amity still suffers massive burns on her back as a consequence of being caught in the blast radius.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Emira has a massive one in Chapter 8, practically destroying Blight Manor and coming close to seriously injuring her parents, though she pulls back at the last second, stating that she has no intention of becoming like them.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Eda absolutely tears into Lilith after the latter destroys the portal, trapping Luz and Amity in the human realm.
Lilith: Edalyn, you have to understand, I was just trying to-
Eda: What? Protect her? Protect me?! [grabs Lilith by the collar] Are you still trying to justify what you did?! Luz was never happy at home. But she was happy here. And you took that away from her. You crushed a young girl's dream and talk about it like it's something to be proud of. And you messed up Amity's life in the process... the girl you were mentoring, the one that you were supposed to protect! You know nothing about the human realm! Do you have any idea how dangerous it is there for someone like her?! She trusted you!
      Lilith: I-
Eda: No. This time you'll listen. [lifts Lilith higher into the air] You always believe you're doing the right thing, no matter how in the wrong you are. And I'm so incredibly tired of hearing that over and over again. You've been trying to "save" me for such a long time. To help me get back on the "right" track. Maybe I'm not the one who lost her way, Lily. Maybe I'm the one that still saw clearly after they'd forced you into blind obedience. Maybe that's why I ran. Maybe I saw what they were doing to you, and when I tried to pull you out of their grasp and failed, I knew the only thing left for me to do was run. But you never stopped to think about that, did you? You were so busy trying to "save" me that you never considered you could be the one who needs saving. [drops Lilith to the ground] You ruined the lives of two kids today. I hope you're proud of yourself, Lily.
    • Later, Willow gives a long overdue one to Boscha in Chapter 10.
Willow: You really don't get it, do you?
      [Willow hesitates for a moment]
Boscha: Well, what don't I get? Why don't you enlighten me?
Willow: You think of yourself as this... this untouchable being that's so much better than everyone, and everyone else is supposed to worship the ground that you walk on. And why? Because you're good at sports? Well, newsflash, Boscha: you're not better than anyone. You're a lot worse than most of us, in fact. You never consider how you make anyone else feel with the way you behave. You're a terrible person! You're always mean to everyone! You've been picking on me for years! Why the heck would I want to be friends with you?! That you think of that as some covetable achievement for someone you've been bullying for years really says a lot about how self-absorbed you are. I do hope your arm gets better soon, though, because once it does, I can go back to seeing you as little as possible! [Willow gives Boscha a big smile] Have a nice afternoon, Boscha! See you tomorrow!
[Willow turns and departs, leaving Boscha in Stunned Silence]
  • They Would Cut You Up: Amity's rationale for not being taken to a hospital once her and Luz discover the extent of Amity's burns; being a witch, x-rays would immediately discover the unusual aspects of her anatomy (not to mention, her pointed ears would be a dead giveaway), and she would most likely be shipped off to a government facility for research purposes.
  • Twice Shy: Luz and Amity both fail, at multiple points, to notice their mutual pining, often chalking the others' odd behavior up to the high stress of their situation. Even when they do acknowledge their own feelings, however, they often push it aside, rationalizing that confessing would be one more unnecessary burden for the other, atop everything else.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Essentially the situation that Luz and Amity are stuck in; with the portal destroyed, there's no clear way back to the Boiling Isles. And though the extended Hexsquad is working on a new portal, it could take years to complete.
    • After discovering the extent of their parents' abuse, Edric and Emira gather up their things and flee to the Owl House, where Eda ends up taking them under her wing.
