Fanfic / Kamen Rider X-Overs

Go To

The Kamen Rider X-Overs are a fanfic series written by mtnetsurfer that crosses over various incarnations of Kamen Rider with other media, typically anime. So far six stories have been completed, with more on the way.

The series as a whole can be read here.

List of works in this series:

Kamen Rider X-Overs contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Kamen Rider 3 and 4 in canon wouldn't show until Kamen Rider Drive.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Dead Lion's final fate is actually shown here, since in canon his defeat was never finalized.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Several characters over the course of the series, most notably Malty Melromarc and Ryo Asuka.
    • Double case with Kamen Riders 3 and 4. The Rider concepts were loyal Shocker agents in canon, while the heroes that turn into them (Motoyasu Kitamura and Itsuki Kawasumi respectively) had their fair share of evils in canon.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Several Riders gain new abilities they didn't have in canon.
    • The first four Riders gain the Rider Weapons (based on the Legendary Weapons from The Rising of the Shield Hero).
    • Kamen Rider V3 can borrow the devil Amon's wings.
    • Kamen Rider X can use the special skills of the Kamen Rider Battlefront.
    • Kamen Rider Amazon, being half-ghoul, can use Blood Apendages.
    • Kamen Rider Stronger still has access to his Accelerator.
    • Kamen Rider Sky gains the Ganbare Gun.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Riderman is renamed Kamen Rider Arms, while Electro-Wave Human Tackle is officially designated Kamen Rider Tackle. Skyrider is renamed as Kamen Rider Sky.
  • Alternate Continuity: The series starts twenty years later than canon in 1991. This is to account for the large gaps in time where there were no Kamen Rider series.
    • The Rising of the Kamen Riders adds Kamen Riders 3 and 4 to the mix, with Motoyasu taking over as Kamen Rider 3 around the the midpoint of the story while Naofumi/Kamen Rider 1 and Ren/Kamen Rider 2 go to fight Shocker worldwide. He's later joined by Itsuki as Kamen Rider 4, and later all four fight together not long before Shocker becomes Gel-Shocker.
    • Electro-Wave Human Tackle becomes Kamen Rider Tackle in this story, with much greater powers than canon.
    • Kamen Rider ZX appears slightly earlier than canon.
  • Arc Words: "A Kamen Rider is immortal!" is a common saying among the Riders to point out how their justice always wins.
    • There's also "You can't outride a Kamen Rider!" to point out that, as professional riders, drivers, and pilots, no artificial skill can possibly compare to them.
  • Author Appeal: The author really enjoys the character Tobei Tachibana, even calling him the greatest ally the Kamen Riders ever had at one point. It gets to the point where Tobei is given Adaptational Expansion, showing up in Skyrider Wonderland, when in canon his last appearance was during the Skyrider special.
  • Battle Harem: The three women in the Bebop Riders from Super-1 Bebop are basically this for Spike.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: The Kamen Riders, like in canon, are powered by the Cross of Fire, which is a physical embodiment of this trope. Most Riders use similar powers as the bad guys, though using it for justice instead. For example, the Four Riders are actually created using technology stolen from Shocker.
  • Big Eater: According to Tobei, all Kamen Riders tend to be this. Considering in canon Skyrider has to consume a large amount of kilocalories per day just to use his Sky Kick, it makes sense.
  • Breaking Old Trends: In canon every series tends to take place in some form of Japan (which makes sense since it's a Japanese show). But Super-1 Bebop breaks the formula by having the Cowboy Bebop crew travel across the world to fight Dogma agents. Counts as a Mythology Gag as well since Kamen Riders who aren't in Japan are said to be fighting evil in other countries.
  • The Cameo: At the end of the story, the canon Kamen Riders will often make a brief appearance or be mentioned in some capacity.
  • Canon Immigrant: Kamen Riders Omega, Alpha, and Sigma are shipped over from Kamen Rider Amazons. Kamen Rider G becomes part of the main timeline as well.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Deconstructed. While the various evil organizations want to be this, doing so always causes waves in the world that inevitably gets the Kamen Riders' attention and sends them beating down the bad guys' collective door. And yet they can't stop because Evil Feels Good to them.
  • Cool Bike: Naturaly, otherwise this wouldn't really be Kamen Rider. With the exception of 3, 4, and Arsenal, all the Kamen Riders use a modified motorcycle for their Rider Machine.
    • 1 and 2 start with the classic Cyclone, a modified Suzuki T20. Later they upgrade to the New Cyclone, a modified Suzuki Hustler TS250III.
    • V3 uses the Hurricane, a modified Suzuki TM250.
    • Arms rides the Silver Streak, a Suzuki TS250.
    • X has the Cruiser, another Suzuki TM250.
    • Angel's Wing Racer is another Suzuki TM250.
    • Life uses another Suzuki TM250 called the Soul Rizer.
    • SSS uses the Moth Wing, you guessed it, another Suzuki TM250. That's a rather popular model for early Kamen Riders.
    • Eyez has a Suzuki TM250 called the Sapphire Storm.
    • Amazon also uses the Suzuki TM250 for his Jungler.
    • Omega, Alpha, and Sigma break the formula with their Junglaider, which is a modified Honda XR250.
    • Stronger rides the Kabutoro, a modified Suzuki GT380.
    • Tackle has her Tentoro, a modified Suzuki Hustler TS125.
    • Stream has the Jet Streamer, a modified Kawasaki 100.
    • Sky uses the Skyturbo, a Suzuki SP370.
    • Guard uses a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR called the Patrol Machine.
    • Blood has the Crimson Speeder, a Yamaha YZR500.
    • Ground has his own Suzuki SP370 called the Gran Turbo.
    • G, having been trained by V3, has his own Hurricane, aka Suzuki TM250.
    • Super-1 has his classic V-Machine, a heavily modified Harley-Davidson FLH-80 Classic.
    • Heart, Bang, and ZX all use the Helldiver, a modified Suzuki DR250S.
  • Crossover Relatives: Kanade from Angel Beats! becomes the daughter of Tobei Tachibana from the first Kamen Rider series. In her previous life, she was his niece.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As Amon explains to V3, both devils and Hell itself exist solely to punish wicked beings who die, and it's impossible for anyone innocent or righteous to be sent there.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Occasionally a Monster of the Week will be destroyed by a Rider or finishing move that's different from canon.
  • Doorstopper: The Rising of the Kamen Riders, which makes sense since it adapts the original Kamen Rider, which had 98 episodes and two original movies, making for 100 chapters total. The only individual story of mtnetsurfer's that's longer is My Hero SCP.
  • Fan Sequel: While most of the series are a case of Alternate Continuity, X Beats is a genuine sequel to Angel Beats!, while Cyborg Stronger is a sequel to most of the Cyborg 009 series (with the exception of Cyborg 009: Call of Justice).
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Great Leader is this for the whole series, when he isn't able to be the Big Bad himself. Certain evil organizations are branches or evolutions of Shocker, while others he either released or funded.
  • Hero of Another Story: Skyrider Wonderland reveals that in addition to the Kamen Riders, Neo Shocker had been opposed across the world by heroes like the Stardust Crusaders, the Big Bad Beetleborgs, the Ikari Warriors military group, the Mystic Knights, and a pair of psychic children calling themselves the Psycho Soldiers.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite their enemy being Neo Shocker this time around, the Stardust Crusaders still traveled to Egypt, led by Joseph Joestar and his grandson, Jotaro Kujo.
  • Like Reality, Unless Noted: Kamen Rider elements aside it can be assumed the world of the fanfic has a history similar to ours, but with a few differences in human evolution; races like beastkin, Deadmen, and Blessed are noted to exist, all of them offshoots of humanity.
  • Lighter and Softer: Zigzagged. The series crossed over certainly wind up this way, but each story maintains the tone of the canon Kamen Rider series it's based on.
  • Men of Sherwood: In addition to the Rider Scouts, X Beats has the Kamen Rider Battlefront, a team of well-trained guerrilla fighters who can easily handle most of GOD's forces, save for the Monster of the Week.
  • Mythology Gag: Chapter 27 of X Beats, while serving as a recap for the previous stories up to that point, has a small moment at the beginning dealing with a false storyteller of sorts out to dirty the names of the Riders. Of special note is Kamen Riders 1, 2, 3 and 4, whose personalities are made out to somewhat match those they had in the original The Rising of the Shield Hero canon, though Naofumi is somewhat of an exception in this scenario.
    • Kamen Rider Spirits is referenced as the Rider Corps prepares for the final battle against Neo Shocker.
Rider Corps: "Even if there's no God or Buddha, there will always be the Kamen Riders!"
  • Offscreen Villain Dark Matter: Subverted. While the various villain groups often have access to vast resources, they're far from infinite. More than once the leaders of the evil organizations note that the Kamen Riders' actions have caused them to run out of resources.
  • Once per Episode: Each story always ends with the lead Rider calling out, "Rider Banzai!" Expanding on the literal translation of this, the final line in each story is always, "Long live the Kamen Riders."
    • Each series also has an individual who is not part of the evil orgnization (or at least, not at first) but still hates the current Kamen Rider team:
      • The Rising of the Kamen Riders has Bisca T. Balmus, Itsuki's former partner in the FBI who kept leaking information to Shocker. He's not The Quisling, he just has a hero complex and wanted the honor of beating Shocker personally and so tried to set things up in his favor. Ultimately Shocker revealed they knew his plans all along and decided to show him how dangerous they were. Afterward, he was removed from his position.
      • Devilman V3 has Babu, a member of a hip-hop group that quickly joins up as directors of the Rider Scouts. He quickly proves to be a Token Evil Teammate, constantly criticising V3 for even the slightest failing. It gets to the point where his former friends kick him out of the group altogether. He eventually gets picked up by Marshal Armor and turned into the mutant Scale Armadillo, only to be Killed Off for Real by V3.
      • X Beats has Tomokazu Igarashi, who is something of an outlier. He's the human host for Apollogeist and doesn't actually hate X, in fact he feels that X is his saviour since they were both involved in the subway tunnel collapse that ended X's previous life. But Igarashi was remodeled to be loyal to GOD, and ultimately undergoes a Death of Personality after his first defeat, leaving only Apollogeist left afterward.
      • Tokyo Amazon has Yakumo Omori, a ghoul who thinks Amazon is just as much a monster as Geddon. Jyumenki Gorgos indulges Omorio's beliefs for a while, but once they prove false, as Gorgos expected they would, he uses his power to turn Omori into a human, after which he's arrested for various crimes. He's ultimately brought back into Geddon and transformed into Ant Beastman, only to be killed for good by Amazon.
      • Cyborg Stronger has Emperor, one of the Blessed who desires to see the end of the Kamen Riders after they foiled his own evil schemes and forms an alliance with General Shadow since Stronger was the only one he could find so far. After the Delza Army is destroyed, Emperor's fate is unknown but he is wanted by the United Nations who request the 00 Riders' aid in tracking him down.
      • Skyrider Wonderland has Tsunenaga Tamaki, the warden of Deadman Wonderland who has struck a deal with Neo Shocker, and enjoys a Villainous Friendship with Admiral Demon. Naturally he despises Sky since his killing of kaijin makes it easy to have Deadmen removed from the prison and out of Tamaki's clutches. Once Admiral Demon is taken down for good, the prison is shut down and Tamaki is arrested for numerous crimes against humanity.
      • Super-1 Bebop has Vicious, The Quisling and a Social Darwinist from the research center that created Super-1. He believes that the Dogma Kingdom is meant to mold the world in their image. Naturally he despises Super-1 for opposing them, but he never really acts against the heroes since he's no match for a Kamen Rider.
  • The Power of Friendship: The Rider Corps collectively grows in strength the more Kamen Riders there are, and the more each individual Kamen Rider improves their power, implying this trope.
  • Psychic Powers: In this world, humans who wield psychic powers called "espers". While Itsuki Kawasumi/Kamen Rider 4 is one of the most prominent espers, others psychic heroes include the Stardust Crusaders and the Psycho Soldiers.
  • Recursive Canon: As the Kamen Riders start to become more well-known, the actual Toei studios starts making TV shows about them.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Any Kamen Rider whose brain isn't outright electronic (such as V3 or Arsenal) is instead wired differently so they can easily handle their incredible powers and various abilities.
  • Sailor Earth: The series as a whole has numerous new Riders with a variety of motifs and abilities.
    • X Beats has Kamen Riders Angel, Life, SSS, and Eyez.
    • Cyborg Stronger has Stream and Arsenal.
    • Skyrider Wonderland has Guard, Blood, and Ground.
    • Super-1 Bebop has Heart and Bang.
  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: While it's common for Kamen Riders to help each current generation, especially when the evil organization they're facing steps things up, for the most part they take their fight against evil globally and leave the protection of Japan to the current Rider squadron. This is especially true if the current evil organization is a global threat, and thus Japan isn't the only country getting attacked.
  • Your Normal Is Our Taboo: Discussed in regards to the Dogma Kingdom. They proudly practice eugenics and see nothing wrong with it, while on Earth such practice is either frowned upon or outright banned, especially after the events of World War II. By contrast, Dogma considers it utterly foolish to have relationships based on emotional connections, only seeing value in what descendants a relationship can bring, compared to Earth society where pairing up based on emotional compatability is considered natural. The Bebop Riders note that Dogma isn't evil for thinking eugenics is the right way to live, rather they're evil for forcing other races to live the way they do.
