Fanfic / Disney's RealmWalkers

Go To

Disney's RealmWalkers is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover by LumiTea. Also found on Archive Of Our Own here.

When Heather and her wife Sasha Waybright discover a girl with mysterious, deadly powers, they find themselves dragged into the center of an inter-dimensional conflict between sinister, ancient societies with catastrophic implications for not only the Human Realm- but dozens, maybe hundreds of others as well.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Sasha definitely has this, though it is less a result of any of the story's events than the fact that she is now a young adult, and is much more concerned with real-world problems that are much more complicated than tyrant salamanders trying to invade other dimensions with a flying castle.
    • American politics are just about as bad here as they are in real life, complete with a more suave Trump expy in Cassius Stone.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Anne is never given a sexuality in the original series, she is shown to have married a man (Asimo Boonchuy) in the 2-3 years since the epilogue of The Hardest Thing.
    • Also, while she is stated to have been bisexual in the original series, Sasha is never shown having explicit feelings for any person of any gender. Here, she is shown to have fallen for, dated, and eventually married a woman (Heather Waybright).
  • Darker and Edgier: The Prologue shows that Mother Olm and Valeriana are both dead, Episode 1 reveals that Pacifica Northwest was straight-up murdered by a far-right cult... all before Episode 2 sends things completely Off the Rails when Yyric is possessed by "Him" and proceeds to straight-up strangle his own husband to death.
  • Demonic Possession: "Him" uses this against Yyric in "Episode 2- The Girl with the Pointed Ears". It is also implied that this is the same method he uses to control the rest of the Illuminati.
  • Eldritch Location: The Citadel, as seen in "Prologue: The Will of the Guardian". Whatever it is that's under that bridge, it most certainly isn't good.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death:
    • Matthew Peters' death in "Episode 2- The Girl with the Pointed Ears", having been hugged so hard by his own (posessed) husband that his ribcage snapped.
    • In "Episode 3- The Charybdis Incident", a non-lethal version of this happens to Yyric twice-
      • First, he appears to be crushed to death when Heather drops Sergeant Cain's car on top of him, but it is later revealed that he only lost an arm. Made even worse by the fact that the gore and blood, complete with pieces of skin and bone, that Heather finds under the car are described in extremely graphic detail.
      • Next, Heather impales him through the chest with a shiv- but due to "Him" possessing him, he regenerates almost immediately.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Mother Olm's last prophecy, as read in the Prologue, is basically this for the entire rest of the fanfic.
    • The usage of Sprig's hat and goggles in The Stinger of Episode 2, which allows the Agent to create a portal to Amphibia.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The mysterious, multiversal entity known only as "Him", who not only sent Zhan Tiri after Heather and Zami, but is also implied by Zami to be controlling the Illuminati through their Eye of Providence necklaces- which, in the end of "Episode 2- The Girl with the Pointed Ears,", he uses to possess Yyric.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Heather does this to Yyric in Episode 3 with a shiv she concealed under her jacket, but it turns out he's Not Quite Dead.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The story description is advertised as a cross between The Owl House, Amphibia, and Gravity Falls. So far, elements or characters from Tangled: The Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Dragon Prince, and Star vs. the Forces of Evil have also appeared.
  • Multi-Part Episode: The first four episodes of Episode 1 are this, literally referred to as their own "Opening Arc" that (along with the Prologue) serves as one giant pilot episode for the story.
  • Not Quite Dead: This is an annoying habit of anyone in "His" service.
    • In Episode 2, Zhan Tiri survives being blown up by Heather's pistol, through amazing regenerative capabilites (though it is unknown whether these are natural or caused by "His" interference).
    • In Episode 3, Yyric manages to survive not only having a massive SUV dropped directly on top of him (which DOES lose him an arm), but is also impaled through the chest with a sword, only to have "His" regenerative capabilites heal around the sword, making it just another extension of his body.
  • Police Are Useless: Chief Gustafson. The minute that the possessed Yyric starts shooting, Chief Gustafson steals Cain's car (which later turns out to be their last hope of defeating him) and flees.
    • Not to mention the fact that, after hours of searching the Reddick's house, nobody was able to find the basement and realize that it was on fire.
    • Lieutenant Mc'Coy later averts this, being the first actually competent LAPD senior officer the series has introduced.
  • Time Skip: The story is set an undetermined amount of time (presumed to be 3 years) after the epilogue to Amphibia's finale, meaning it is set at least 10 years after the events of Gravity Falls' and The Owl House's respective finale as well. Pacifica Reddick (nee Northwest) appearing as a married adult woman in "Episode 1- The House on Cedar Street" confirms this.
    • "Prologue- The Will of the Guardian" (technically released after Chapter 2) confirms that, as of the start of the story, it's been 13 years since the events of "All In".
  • Vagueness Is Coming:
    • In Episode 1, Heather finds Zami in a catatonic state on the ground, able to say nothing but "It's coming, it's coming". Fast-forward a minute or so, and Zhan Tiri is bursting from the basement wall.
    • The olm prophecy from "Will of the Guardian" also says that the main arc of the story is the three groups of people (presumably the Calamity Trio, Amity/Luz, and Dipper/Mabel) will have to unite on Earth to stop an event known as "The Fall". No indication or hints are given as to what "The Fall" is, however, other than that the fate of the multiverse depends on it and the entity known as "Him" is likely to be one of its main instigators.
      • Episode 3 not only confirms "His" involvement, but also gives a timetable- the Fall is only eight weeks away.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: When Episode 3 begins, Zami and Mc'Coy are trying to fight Zhan Tiri, but by the end of the episode end up fighting each other because they can't agree on whether to send Mc'Coy's remaining men to safety or let them stay and fight.
