Bee-Nevolent is a Miraculous Ladybug fanfic written by TwinklingCupcake. It was one of the earlier "Someone gets the Bee Miraculous" fanfics, notable for going to a then-unusual suspect: Sabrina.

When Sabrina comes home from school after a difficult day with Chloe and finds the Bee Miraculous in her room, she's sure there's been a mistake. But when she tries to return it, the kwami suggests she spend one evening as the bee hero, and see if she changes her mind.

She decides to keep it.

Quickly becoming a hero alongside Ladybug and Chat Noir, Sabrina finds herself growing more confident and gaining new friends.Unfortunately, she has something to deal with outside of the mask: her "best friend," Chloe.

It can be read on Archive of Our Own here, and on fanfiction.net here.

Tropes used in Bee-Nevolent include:

  • A Minor Kidroduction: The story opens with five-year-old Sabrina at her first day of kindergarten, and follows her through her childhood up to the present day.
  • Anti-Interference Lock Up:
    • Sabrina locks Chloe in a fitting room so she can transform into Honeycomb and combat an Akuma at the mall. Chloe is not happy when she's let back out.
    • Ladybug locks Sabrina in the school bathroom to protect her when an Akumatized Chloe demands she be brought to her. Sabrina waits til Ladybug is gone to transform into Honeycomb and sneak out through the window.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: In chapter 5, from Chat Noir to Honeycomb: "Honeycomb, in your normal life, is someone hurting you?"
  • Body Horror: Princesse Abeille's hive army have large, black compound eyes. It freaks Sabrina out the first time she sees it.
  • Glamour: Used as an in-universe reason for why people can't recognize Miraculous-users despite only having a domino mask to hide their identities.
  • Group Hug: Honeycomb often finds herself in the middle of these with Ladybug and Chat Noir, namely after she spills how she's in a toxic friendship in her normal life, and in chapter ten when Princesse Abeille is defeated.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every chapter is named after a song title.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Part of Sabrina's motivation to keep the Bee Miraculous is because she hopes to be friends with the other heroes. In her normal life, she also expresses desire to befriend her classmates, but fears it's too late.
  • In a Single Bound: As part of her test-run of the Bee Miraculous, Sabrina leaps from a nearby roof all the way to the Eiffel Tower. This is the act that gets her caught on camera.
  • It's All My Fault: In chapter ten, Hanii has this reaction to Sabrina being taken prisoner by an Akumatized Chloe, feeling that if she hadn't pushed her so hard to stand up to Chloe, Chloe wouldn't have been Akumatized, and subsequently wouldn't have caused the mess that led to Sabrina's capture.
  • Late for School:
    • Sabrina is running late in the first chapter, and is made even later when she stops to help up Master Fu, who she'd accidentally bowled over in her haste.
    • In chapter two, Sabrina's alarm fails to go off in time, causing her to have to skip her morning prep and run the entire way to school. It also leads to her not knowing what everyone is gossiping about at school, having slept through the video of her In a Single Bound being uploaded to the LadyBlog.
  • Minidress of Power: As opposed to the canon bodysuits, Sabrina as Honeycomb wears a minidress over leggings.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sabrina has this reaction at the end of chapter one, learning that her grand leap to the Eiffel Tower was caught on camera and posted online. It leads to her panic attack in chapter two.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • The main reason Master Fu gave Sabrina the Bee Miraculous, stating that she "needs" its kwami's guidance.
    • Sabrina begins having a panic attack in chapter two and flees to the bathroom. After spending a short time in the toilets, Rose comes to check on her, saying the class is worried about her. Afterwards when Sabrina returns to class, both Nino and Marinette quietly ask if she's alright.
  • Prone to Tears: Sabrina cries a lot throughout the fic, usually either due to Chloe's emotional abuse of her, or because she's stressing herself out.
  • School Bullying Is Harmless: Thoroughly averted; Chloe's long-term abuse and bullying of Sabrina has essentially stripped her of any confidence and left her as a meek shell of a girl who goes along with whatever she says in order to keep her happy.
  • Shout-Out: Sabrina makes a reference to Sailor Moon, comparing her status as a transforming heroine to the main character. She even refers to Usagi as her French dub name, Bunny Rivere.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Sabrina throws one at Chloe in chapter ten, shouting how Chloe was an awful friend and she's finished with taking it.
  • Rescue Hug: In chapter ten, Sabrina jumps from a scaffold while Miraculous Ladybug performs its World-Healing Wave and into Chat Noir's arms. He immediately pulls her in for a hug, and is shortly afterwards joined by Ladybug.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Pretty much the whole fic; Sabrina is an abused "friend" of Chloe's who receives a Miraculous after a brief display of kindness, which allows her confidence to grow and leads to her making new friends.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Hanii's preferred recharge food is rose petals, which Sabrina casually plucks from nearby flowers and carries with her.
  • Wham Line: "You want [Sabrina] so badly? [...] I'm right here, Chloe."
