Although it's a rather small franchise, spanning a modest tv series, one movie, a ton of cards and dolls and a few books, Rainbow Brite still received 8 different dubs over the course of its series. Naturally, not every name fared the same across different audiences, causing the massive renaming from each dub.
- Rainbow Brite herself is renamed quite a few times. Regina Regenbogen in the German dub, Blondine in the French dub (though the theme song refers to her by both her original name and her French name), Azurine in the French Canadian dub, Regnebue Rita in the Norwegian dub, Rubita in the Spanish (Spain) dub but Arco Iris in the Mexican Spanish dub and Iridella in the Italian dub. Funnily enough, only her nickname is changed, as only the German and Spanish dubs changed for name 'Wisp' to fit their themes.
- Being a more popular character in Europe than her homeland, Moonglow is renamed extensively throughout the dub, even going as far as the other dubs consulting each other when naming her, rather than the source material! She is more popularly known as Sandra Silbermound in the German dub, Clairlune in the French dub, Rayon de Lune in the French Canadian dub, Mânestrâle in the Norwegian dub, Chiar de Luna in the Spanish dubs, and Raggio di Luna in the Italian dub.
- Red Butler and Romeo are changed a considerate amount, as his name being in reference to an already waning in popularity star was confusing for children. In the French dub he is renamed Roméo, like his sprite. In the French Canadian dub he (and Romeo sprite) are Rougeard & P'tit Câlin. In Norwegian he is Rød, and in German they are Richard Rosenherz & Rotbart. In Spaniard Spanish, Alerta Rojo & Romeo, and in Mexican Spanish, Billy Red & Rocky. In Italian they are Red Rosso & Folletto Rosso.
- Lala Orange and OJ are renamed even just for different English dialects! In the UK, OJ is called Saucy / Mango, while in French Lala is renamed Clémentine. In German she is Maria Mandarina and Orangino, while in Spanish they are known as Lala Naranja/Lizzy Orange & O.J./Sassy/Bucky, depending on who you ask. In Italian they are known as Lala Arancio and Folletto Arancione.
- Canary Yellow and Spark go through numerous changes when dub hopping. For instance: they are known as Capucine and P'tit Fou in French, Jaunelle and Etincelle in Canadian French, Sabine Sonnenstrahl and Gelbwushel in German, Canaria Amarilla and Canario Amerillo in Spanish, Sandy Canary and Sparky in Mexican Spanish, and Canary Gialla and Folleto Giallo in Italian.
- Patty O' Green and Lucky seem to have the most name changes, as they are: Mentoline & P'tit Chou in France, Verdarine and P'tit Chou in Canadian French, Grønn & Lykke in Norwegian, Katrin Kleeblatt and Grünschnabel in German, Verde Esmeralda and Lucky in Spanish and Patty Verde and Folletto Verde in Italian.
- Buddy Blue is known as Bluet in French, Beau Bleu in Canadian French, just Blå in Norwegian, Bubi Blauschuh in German, Chico Azul in both Spanish dubs and Buddy Bly in the Italian Dub. As for Champ, he is renamed P'tit plum in the french dub, Champion in the canadian french dub, Blaustern in the German dub, and Folletto Blu in the Italian dub.
- Because Indigo Doll's name is rather unique among the color kids, it does not change as often as her sprite. She is known as Nina Nachtigall in the German dub, Añil in both spanish dubs, and Indachella in the Italian dub. In the British English dub, Hammy is renamed 'Encore', while in the french dub, he is known as P'tit Miam. In the French Canadian dub he is Cabotin, while in the German dub he is Tintentupf. In the Italian dub he is renamed Folleto Indaco.
- Shy Violet is renamed Violine in both French dubs, Fiolett in the Norgwegian one, Viole Veilchenscheu in the German dub, Violeta in both Spanish dubs and Violetta in the Italian dub. I.Q on the other hand is named P'tit Crack in the French dubs, Violetto in the German one, and Folletto Viola in the Italian one.
- Murky Dismal is Grisemine in the French dub, Rocamobole in the French Canadian, just Murky in the Norwegian, Grummel Griesgram in the German, and Murky Kupo in the Italian dub.
