(John) Scott Thompson (born June 12, 1959 in North Bay, Ontario) is a Canadian actor and comedian best known as a member of the comedy group The Kids in the Hall.

Thompson grew up in Brampton in Southern Ontario and attended York University, although he was expelled after two years for "disruptive behavior." Afterwards he performed in a comedy group called the Love Cats with Mark McKinney. In 1984 McKinney brought him into another group he'd started with Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, and Kevin McDonald. These "Kids in the Hall" would make a splash in Toronto's comedy scene and got their own TV show in 1988, produced by Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels.

One of KITH's claims to fame is that it was one of the first successful comedy troupes with an openly gay member—namely Thompson, who played it up with his recurring "alpha fag" raconteur Buddy Cole. Of course given their playful approach to sexuality, the other four could play gay, Scott could play conservative straight guys, and any or all might be playing women in any given scene.

When the group officially broke up in 1994, Thompson moved on to other comedy and acting roles, including recurring-to-regular parts on The Larry Sanders Show and Hannibal. He reunited with KITH in 2010 for the miniseries Death Comes to Town, but was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma before production began. Happily, he survived, and his cancer entered remission — though two of his characters didn't survive the miniseries. He rejoined the troupe again for a live tour in 2015, and appeared with them in the revived sixth season of their series for Amazon Prime in 2022.
