(John) Scott Thompson (born June 12, 1959 in North Bay, Ontario) is a Canadian actor and comedian best known as a member of the comedy group ''Series/TheKidsInTheHall''.

Thompson grew up in Brampton in Southern Ontario and attended York University, although he was expelled after two years for "disruptive behavior." Afterwards he performed in a comedy group called the Love Cats with Creator/MarkMcKinney. In 1984 [=McKinney=] brought him into another group he'd started with Creator/DaveFoley, Creator/BruceMcCulloch, and Creator/KevinMcDonald. These "Kids in the Hall" would make a splash in UsefulNotes/{{Toronto}}'s comedy scene and got their own TV show in 1988, produced by ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' boss Creator/LorneMichaels.

One of KITH's claims to fame is that it was one of the first successful comedy troupes with an openly gay member--namely Thompson, who played it up with his recurring "alpha fag" raconteur Buddy Cole. Of course given their playful approach to sexuality, the other four could play gay, Scott could play conservative straight guys, and any or all might be playing women in any given scene.

When the group officially broke up in 1994, Thompson moved on to other comedy and acting roles, including recurring-to-regular parts on ''Series/TheLarrySandersShow'' and ''Series/{{Hannibal}}''. He reunited with KITH in 2010 for the miniseries ''Death Comes to Town'' and plans are in the works for another season of their sketch show. Somewhere in there he also found the time to survive cancer.
