"When one door closes another one falls on top of you."

Gordon Angus Deayton (born 6 January 1956) is an English actor best known for playing Mike Channel (among others) in KYTV and Patrick Trench in One Foot in the Grave.

In 1978, he joined the Oxford Revue and appeared with them at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Early in his career, Deayton co-wrote and provided voices for Radio Active, and stayed with the series when it made the jump to television as KYTV, playing Mike Channel in both.

In 1990, he joined the cast of One Foot in the Grave for its second series as Patrick Trench, neighbour and nemesis of Victor Meldrew; Deayton remained with the series for the rest of its run. While Patrick and Victor loathed one another, Deayton and Richard Wilson were great friends off-screen, with Wilson even becoming the godfather to Deayton's son.

The same year as he joined One Foot, Deayton became the host of Have I Got News for You. Deayton hosted until he was sacked in 2002, due to controversy rising after News of the World reported that he had done cocaine and had sex with prostitutes. After starring in Nighty Night as Don Cole, Deayton returned to hosting, doing so in Would I Lie to You? and Hell's Kitchen, both from 2007 to 2009.

In The New '10s, he starred in Pramface as Alan Derbyshire and in Waterloo Road from Series 8-10 as George Windsor. His latest starring role came in 2017 as Mitch in Alone, once more putting Deayton on the radio, just as he had done several years prior.
