Dommel
Dommel (ドメル)

A lazy white dog of an unknown breed who loves eating, lying around in the Professor's house and messing around with his inventions.- Big Eater: Dommel's two main hobbies are eating and sleeping.
- Butt-Monkey: Dommel is often on the receiving end of slapstick and humiliation.
- Canine Confusion: Dommel has a visible navel even though dogs' belly buttons aren't that noticeable in real life.
- Dogs Are Dumb: Dommel is a subversion of the trope. He's smarter than the Absent-Minded Professor, but still dumb enough to be tricked by Blacky.
- Dub Name Change:
- He was called Wowser in the American-English dub.
- He was called Cubitus in the French dub, like his original comic counterpart. The French dub did the same to the other characters.
- In the Dutch and Polish dubs this is averted, as he stays Dommel.
- In the Arabic dub, he was called Kaaboul.
- Exposed Animal Bellybutton: He has a beer belly with a wide belly button.
- Interspecies Romance: Dommel, a dog, has a crush on Cherry, a human.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He often acts selfish and can be a dick to Professor Ron, but he cares about him from the bottom of his heart and helps him build when he can.
- Verbal Tic: In the English dub where he's called Wowser, he says "Wow" in almost all of his sentences.
Professor Ron

An former sailor who has since retired and now works as a professor.
- Absent-Minded Professor: Though he's a genius, Dommel takes advantage his lack of foresight to have fun adventures using his inventions.
- Adaptational Name Change: In the original Cubitus comic, his name was Professor Sémaphore. In the anime, his name is Professor Ron.
- Dub Name Change:
- In the American-English dub, he was called Professor Dinghy.
- In the Dutch dub, he was called Professor Semafoor.
- In the French dub, he was called Professor Sémaphore, like his original comic counterpart.
- In the Arabic dub, his name was changed to Professor Abqoor.
- Mad Scientist: His inventions endanger and upend the lives of others on a regular basis, but that doesn't stop him from still going at them.
- Oblivious to Love: Beatrice seems to have a crush on him, which he's painfully unaware of.
- Older and Wiser: Subverted. He's certainly a science whiz with unmatched talent, but he's also so eccentric he misses obvious consistencies. He's also blind to Blacky's true nature.
- Real Men Wear Pink: Professor Dingy wears a pink sweater, though he doesn't show any other inclinations towards traditional feminine activities.
Blacky
Blacky (ブラッキー)

The neighbour's cat, and resident jerkass.
- Adaptational Name Change: In the original Cubitus comic, his name was Sénéchal. In the anime, he is called "Blacky".
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He acts curious and inquisitive, but actually plots to sabotage the Professor's inventions.
- Cats Are Mean: He is a mean-spirited cat who often antagonizes Dommel and anyone unfortunate enough to cross him.
- A Dog Named "Dog": In the Italian dub, his name is Gatto, which is the Italian word for "cat".
- Dub Name Change:
- He was called Ratso-Catso in the American-English dub.
- He was called Balthazar in the Dutch and Spanish dubs.
- He was called Sénéchal, his original comic name, in the French dub.
- He was called Gatto in the Italian dub.
- He was called Mushakess in the Arabic dub.
- Exposed Animal Bellybutton: His bellybutton is visible, even though he's a cat (where it would normally be hidden under mountains of fur).
- Jerkass: Blacky screws Dommel and Ron over every chance he gets, For the Evulz.
- Karma Houdini: In one episode he tricks Ron and Dommel into thinking their Time Machine really worked, but was actually making fools out of them the whole time. He never gets his just desserts for relentlessly humiliating them.
Cherry

A girl who lives in the same neighborhood as Dommel and Blacky.
- Canon Foreigner: She was created for the anime series.
- Dub Name Change:
- In the American English dub, she was called Linda Lovely.
- In the French dub, she was called Sherry.
- In the Italian dub, she was called Linda.
- In the Arabic dub, she was called Nadine.
- Averted in the Dutch and Polish dubs where she remains "Cherry".
- Pink Is Feminine: Her default outfit is pink, as is her swimsuit, belly dancer outfit and ballgown dress.
