"Vale Tudo is a spectacle people come expecting to see someone getting their head kicked in. The kind of people that like to watch these events like to drink and when people get drunk they like to fight, it's natural for there to be trouble. ""I was once interviewed for a martial arts magazine and they asked why I liked ground work so much? My reply reflected my own thoughts throughout my ground fighting years. I like ground work because you can never say that you slipped, and he got a lucky shot in, as on the ground there is nowhere to hide and no excuses. Down there, if you have the skills you can be in control, and no external influences, that you can't control, can effect the result. This is what I bring to the Pro clubs and people that take on my concept of training, I give the players and people in my sessions nowhere to hide, so everything is on the table and there can be no excuses later."

"When I fight I'm fighting for my life, therefore I will utilise any range of movements, techniques that are known to me and some I'll even make up on the spur of the moment. I need to be as mentally focused as possible and my body must be relaxed. I will do whatever makes me happy. If I'm happy, I'm enjoying it, if I'm enjoying it I'm relaxed. I am an entertainer though, a showman. Do you know why......because I can!!! I hope I do please the crowd after all they all want a good night and they are all paying for it but I'm never callous, this leads to defeat and I believe the term you are looking for is 'a show off'. My unorthodox style is one of my biggest attributes. It's a fact that what people do not understand, they fear."

Eventually, Lee began to fight back against his father, with Lee's former next-door neighbour describing an incident where Brahim "actually went and hit Lee and Lee snapped, just turned round and knocked his Dad clean out...once he realised he could take down a big man like that I think that's what changed Lee into the man he is now - a thug." "Before I met John, I pictured a big, imposing cage-fighting guru. In reality, he looked like a normal guy - more likely to be a primary school teacher than a master of combat. But it didn't take long for my initial impression to change. When John began to share his knowledge, he distinguished himself as a unique individual and you soon understand how special he was. It was easy to see why he had such a big reputation."
— Conor McGregor
