Characters

    Numa Turcatti

Numa Turcatti

My name is Numa Turcatti. I'm 24 years old

Played By: Enzo Vogrincic.

  • Adaptational Context Change: In the movie, Numa accidentally cuts his ankle after kicking the plane’s windshield in an attempt to free himself and the rest of the survivors from the buried fuselage, an injury that ultimately leads to his death. In real life, he got the injury much after, when someone accidentally bumped into his ankle in the night, trying to reach the “door” of the fuselage.
  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: In real life, Numa had a shorter, slick-back styled haircut while also sporting a mustache. In the movie, he has none.
  • All There in the Manual: Deleted scenes would’ve shown that Numa:
    • Played in a soccer team called Loyola note  , along with his friends Alfredo “Pancho” Delgado and Alfredo Cibils.
    • He had a rather numerous family, including one sister and three brothers (one being his twin).
  • Best Friend: He is frequently seen next to his best friend, Alfredo “Pancho” Delgado.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Courtesy of his actor Enzo Vogrincic, but the photo of him in the end credits shows he had them in real life as well.
  • Character Narrator: The story is narrated through his eyes.
  • Cradle of Loneliness: During the second expedition where they find the bodies of the passengers who were thrown away on the crash, he finds the corpse of his dear friend Gastón Costemalle. Upon seeing him, he immediately bends down, hugs him and says “I’m here, Gastón”.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In the previous adaptations, Numa is portrayed as nothing more but a background character, which ultimately downplays his actual role in the tragedy. In here, his works and efforts are done proper justice.
  • Heroic RRoD: After being buried alive along with his companions, Numa grows tired of the decisions they have to take in order to survive and decides to dig all the way up to the surface, even if it means kicking the plane’s windshield all by himself. He succeeds, at the cost of cutting his ankle, which inadvertently causes his ultimate downfall, leading to his death.

    Nando Parrado

This place is a cemetery. I'm not staying here.

Played By: Agustin Pardella.

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Immediately after waking up from his coma, he starts training his legs so he can escape from the mountains, walk towards civilization and get help as fast as possible.
  • Deuteragonist: The story is mainly focused on Numa, but next to him, the movie also dedicates some of its focus in both Nando and Canessa.
  • Determinator: Ever since his sister died, he is determined on leaving the mountains as quickly as possible.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He is blonde, and he’s also focused on helping his fellow survivors.
  • Improbably Quick Coma Recovery: Justified. Although not shown in the film, in real life Nando spent the whole first night sleeping with his head resting on a pile of snow which inadvertently helped his injury. Later on, fellow survivor Diego Storm noticed this and decides to help him, which ultimately leads to his recovery.
  • Real-Person Cameo: When he and his family are entrring the airport early in the film, the man who opens the door to them is none other than the real Nando Parrado.
  • Wham Line: “I’m not staying here.”

And don't I have the right to do everything I can to live?! Who is going to take away that right from me?!

Played By: Matias Recalt

  • The Ace: Even though he's only been studying medicine for a short period of time, he still manages to take care of everyone like a long experienced doctor would, curing their wounds, juryrigging two hammocks for those who have wounded legs and straightening Alvaro's broken leg. Besides all of that, he also participates in most of the expeditions, carefully planning the next step to take along with the Strauch Cousins.
  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: In real life, during the 72 days long ordeal, Roberto grew a lengthy, black beard. In the movie, this is left out because his actor, Matías Recalt, can’t physically grow one.
  • Closest Thing We Got: He, along with Gustavo Zerbino, have only been studying medicine for less than a year, yet they manage to help the wounded as quickly as possible, for example, straightening Alvero's broken leg, or taking care of Arturo's pustules and later Numa's.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He is seen to be highly volatile during moments of stress, yelling at his companions and insulting them, for example when Carlitos is sewing the sleeping bag they plan to sleep in during the expedition, he takes it out of his hands and breaks it in front of everyone.
  • I Work Alone: During the initial rugby scene, he is seen running towards the opposition's in-goal area with the ball in his hand and, even though he has the opportunity to pass the ball to Nando who's standing next to him and even his teammates are telling him to do so, he ignores them and continues to run forward. Unsurprisingly, this ends up with Roberto being tackled and losing the game.
  • Real-Person Cameo: You'll never guess who portrays the doctor that escorts Roberto into the hospital.

    Gustavo Zerbino

If the suitcase doesn't go up, I'm not going up!

Played By: Tomas Wolf

  • Blinded by the Sun: During the second expedition, where Numa, Maspons and Zerbino climb the mountainside in hopes of finding the tail, they decide to spend the night there, enduring the consequences of doing so. Zerbino’s the one who got it the worst, he was snowblinded and during the following days, he had to cover his eyes with a scarf.
  • Closest Thing We Got: He and Canessa are the only medicine students on the plane. note
  • The Tooth Hurts: His teeth become noticeably weakened after the expedition, on the verge of falling of as noticed by Canessa. He even has to chew Zerbino’s food for him to properly eat it.
  • Tragic Keepsake: A lot, actually. Following the second expedition in which he finds the bodies of those who were thrown out of the fuselage during the crash, he decided to keep their belonging, whether it’s their jewelry, documents or their watches, in order to retrieve them to their respective families. He then does this with every person who died subsequently, keeping all of their mementos in a suitcase. He almost refuses to board the helicopter when they told him he couldn’t bring the suitcase with him due to the weight. Thankfully, they caved in.

Here the only thing we have left is life, and we must protect it at all costs

Played By: Diego Vegezzi

  • Big "NO!": After hearing from the radio that they've called off the search, he inmediately screams a big "NOOOOO!!" to the sky, big enough for Numa, Pancho and Juan Carlos, who were all inside the fuselage, to hear.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Upon hearing the bad news, he becomes noticeably more depressed and reserved, quietly lending his leadership role to the Strauch Cousins.
  • Nice Guy: Being the captain of the team and the lesder of the survivors, he’s naturally nicer than average. When confronting Roberto for his insubordination during the rugby game, he still acts respectfully towards him and never raises his voice against him, even if he has all the reasons to do so.
  • The Leader: The Levelheaded type. Being the captain of the team gave him plenty of experience on how to command and organize a group of young men with ease, even if the situation is far more complex. He fits in all of the needed qualities to lead the group of survivors. He's reassuring, resourceful and protecting, especially with the youngest survivors.
Carlitos: How many are dying tonight?
Marcelo: No one's dying tonight, Carlitos. I promise it to you.
