• The Book Ends. When he first appears, Numa introduces himself to the audience with "My name is Numa Turcatti", but when he dies he says "My name is Numa", as the audience has come to know him in the meantime just like his flight companions did.
• The deliberate aversion of the Scenery Censor trope in the hospital shower scene compared to the earlier post-match scene. By now the audience knows literally everything about them, even their most shameful secrets.
• The priest's sermon at the church mirrors the plane crash survivors's ordeal: stranded in a desert without food, then eating their savior's flesh, dying and "resurrecting" in the eyes of the outside world.
