Argus Pytel

Blood Type: AB / Age: 37 / Species: Mountain Lion

  • Becoming the Mask: In the Golden Ending, Argus goes back to actually replace the pilot of the Cobalt King. Whether or not he dropped the bomb, and if he was killed by his co-pilot for not doing so, is left up to the player to determine.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: His subweapon, Seeker Missile, which launches a wave of missiles that seek out enemies. Good against mooks and bosses alike.
  • Noble Demon: Despite working for the Empire, Argus is described as a "conservative gentleman."
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated; Argus, a member of the Imperial Intelligence, has his name published as the 'traitor' pilot of the Cobalt King, who refused to drop the fourth bomb. This comes back to bite him in the ass. Hard.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Attempts to do this in the Golden Ending, sending Akyta back in time whilst she is carrying Lynthe's child (who will become the first Enkie), hoping that her knowledge of the 'future' will help her avert what happened. Well, considering that Argus traveled again to the dropping of the atomic bomb it probably didn't work and it just created a Stable Time Loop. At least you can argue that Akita will live the rest of her life with the hope that she can change the past.
  • Stable Time Loop: May or may not have caused one as part of the Golden Ending. If he refuses to drop the bomb, just as the original traitor pilot did, Argus will likely be killed for being a traitor to the Empire; this will almost certainly start his father's Roaring Rampage of Revenge again. But this is itself assuming Argus travelling back in time to that point actually undoes his father's death, which it may not. Even if it does, it's not a perfectly stable loop; since Argus is dead, he can't stop that rampage and kill his father. Time travel is such a mess. It is even possible that he was both the pilot and the co-pilot, breaking the in-universe rules of time travel, and that he killed himself. Even Argus himself is aware of this limitation, so it's unknown if he got a way around that.

Ronotra Koss

Blood Type: B / Age: 55 / Species: Bison

  • Anti-Hero: Almost to the point of Villain Protagonist
  • Broken Ace: A crippled alcoholic.
  • Handicapped Badass: Lost both of his legs below the knee in an accident, but still a highly-capable pilot.
  • Manipulative Bastard: The only reason Myryan is helping him is because he knows she's one of the Enkie, and has basically threatened to turn her over to the Empire if she doesn't co-operate.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: The reason behind his Roaring Rampage of Revenge is finding his son's killer, the copilot who shot him in the head when he resisted orders.
  • Smart Bomb: His subweapon, Punk Spirit, clears a large portion of the screen with a huge fireball that also displays the Resistance emblem (stylized to be the developer logo).

Myryan Magusa

Blood Type: O / Age: 33 / Species: Lop-eared Rabbit

  • Attack Drone: Her subweapon, Gemini Spirit, launches a pair of short-lived gun drones that fire constantly.
  • Handicapped Badass: Myryan had cancer of the larynx at a young age, and thus has to use a voicebox to speak.
  • My Nayme Is: Her name is simply 'Mirian' with ys instead of is, which is itself a slight misspelling of 'Miriam', the original Hebrew form of 'Mary'.
  • Rape as Backstory: Myryan was not only raped, but blackmailed about it in order to agree to a pilot job prior to the game.
  • Trauma Conga Line: After suffering from larynx cancer and being raped by a soldier, she is blackmailed by Koss to help him in his quest to hunt the killer of his son. It only gets worse from there: she dies a slow death from leuchemia for being exposed to the radioactivity of the atomic bomb that destroyed Enky.
  • Wrench Wench: A pilot and mechanic.

Akyta Dryad

Blood Type: B / Age: 26 / Species: Doe

  • Apocalypse Maiden: In the normal ending, she is the one who wipes out her own race as a Mercy Kill, timed perfectly with their prophetic book's prediction. In the Golden Ending, Argus does instead, so she can travel back in time and start both her race and the book.
  • My Nayme Is: 'Akita', but with a y. Obviously. It's the name of a Japanese prefecture/city, a Japanese surname, and a kind of dog.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: As noted above, Argus sends her back several thousand years(called "circles" by the Enkies) with the hope of preventing or averting the events of the game's plot.
  • Spread Shot: Her subweapon, Azimuth Battery, which launches a wave of blue shots that can clear out many smaller enemies or do a lot of damage to bosses.

Garai 74/22876

Octane Rating: 90 / Age: 2/ Species: Robot Ape

  • Spread Shot / Smart Bomb: 'His' subweapon, Cluster Bomb, which launches a barrage of explosive munitions across the screen.
  • The Unintelligible / Even the Subtitler Is Stumped: All of Garai's speech is simply subtitled as {INCOMPREHENSIBLE ROBOT NOISES}, yet Koss and Myryan seem to have no trouble understanding him.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Garai was manufactured for the Imperial Guard, but stolen and reprogrammed by Koss. Or possibly purchased by Koss and reprogrammed. The narration/backstories are inconsistent.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We never knew what happened to the Garai after the attempt to stop the atomic bomb. Very likely that it was destroyed on the explotion.

Durak

Blood Type: AB / Age: 32 / Species: Leopard

  • Anti-Hero: Despite her bravery, she is an arrogant classist aristocrat that see other lower-class Enkies with desdain.
  • Broken Bird: Durak can never have children (for reasons left unexplained; whether she's simply incapable, or cannot because there are no other nobles, or something else), and is the last surviving Enkie noble. In the alternate narration, she acts this way not for the sake of nobility, but for the sake of knowledge or something to that effect.
  • Face Death with Dignity
  • Death Seeker, Because Destiny Says So: As she knows the day she is destined to die, Durak eventually resolves to make her death meaningful. Or at least give the Empire a black eye for what they've done to her people.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Durak's way of trying to cope with her situation. It didn't work.
  • Only One Name: Enkie nobles have only one name, because they are considered absolutely unique.
  • Spread Shot / Smart Bomb: Her subweapon, Sonic Sword, which sweeps through a small portion of the screen around her plane and deals massive damage to enemies.
  • Taking You with Me: Fully aware she was going to die, she intended to make a difference by blowing up the Aiborg Factory
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She explains on the Alternate Narration, that the reason of why aristocrats should rule over the lower classes is not only because they have more knowledge but because they allow transmission of culture in opposition to an "aristocracy of vanity" that believes to be superior for their lineage.

Lynthe Ytoo

Blood Type: A / Age: 26 / Species: Iguana

  • Cluster F-Bomb: Ytoo is easily one of the most foul-mouthed members of the cast.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Ytoo was a Collaborationist, but joined up with Akyta's group of the resistance after being wounded and abandoned behind enemy lines by his own forces.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Implied by Argus. After being captured for the destruction of the Project, Lynthe throws a diatribe against his judges (probably a military council since he is technically a "traitor") on his trial for all the war crimes and massacres committed against the Enkies. Argus argues that it was "a foolish thing to do" since those responsible for all the crimes are the ones that gave them the orders behind the battlefield.
  • Sir Swearsalot
  • Wave-Motion Gun: His sub-weapon, the Zebaoth Driller. Good against bosses and swarms of weaker enemies.

Wilhelmine Muller

Blood Type: O/ Species: Human?

  • Guest Fighter: She is one the main protagonists of another WWII-inspired shoot-em-up, Under Defeat.
  • Mysterious Watcher: It's stated in her character description that she came to the planet with a mysterious objective from the old masters of Seol, the Ancients. It's never explained what her role in the story is or if she is against the Enkies or the Empire.
  • Version-Exclusive Content: She is a secret character exclusive for the PS Vita version of the game.
