  • Hard Work Hardly Works: They both worked so hard in order to be talented and please their family, but all the efforts ended in vain, which finally pushed them to use the Branch of Reincarnation for a shortcut.

    Senji Touya

Senji Touya

”That's why I'm gonna get a hold of my talent, and let them regret everything. That's my revenge. I don't care what I have to do for that. To those people that had looked down on me... To my very self, who never speaks up nor shows results. I'm gonna retaliate.

Incarnation: Ishikawa Goemon

A high school student who has excellent academic record but with serious inferiority complex over the lack of talent. Desiring talent over anything else, Touya crosses paths with Haito Le Buffet and gets his hand on a Branch of Reincarnation.

Gaining the thievery talent of Ishikawa Goemon, the infamous Japanese outlaw, Touya joins Haito's group - the Forest of the Greats and starts to fight for his own sake.

  • Always Second Best: Years of being continuously compared to his incredibly talented deceased older brother by their family have taken great toll on his mindset, but Touya still forced himself to take on many different tasks which he fails in desperate attempt to be recognized.
  • Anti-Hero: Touya is perfectly capable of lying, betraying, deceiving, using other questionable methods to fulfill his own goal. Despite that, he has standards, aims for good and will fight for the good.
  • Big Brother Worship: When he was a child, his life revolved around his older brother and he had been always following the latter wherever he went. However, this ended when his brother unintentionally hurt Touya, and Touya in return grew up hating him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Before his Heel Realization, at least. He presented himself to the Forest as a nerdy and humble newbie, but planned to steal everyone’s Talent behind their back.
  • Character Development: He grows out of his cynical, selfish and power-hungry self during the Sinner arc and finally committed himself to fight for the good of others.
  • Foil: To his brother Seiya. They both have Talent related to copying others’, but while Seiya did it by legitimately studying from the Returner, Touya steals from them. Seiya wanted to gather Talents for the purpose of making his younger brother proud and also to help others, Touya’s reason to do so was...less than noble, and he drops the goal later anyway.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Wears glasses, and is not much of an idealistic guy by default.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He’s jealous with anyone who possesses talent and is perceived as a "natural genius", mundane or magical.
  • Impossible Theft: Thanks to his talent, Touya is able to steal pretty much anything he could lay his hands on, ignoring any outside influences. Besides its obvious criminal use, Touya can use Right Arm of Thievery in a fight by taking the blood or organs from inside the enemy's body. He also stole part of a rock to hide inside it once. However, unknown to most of the members of the Forest of the Greats, Touya's ability doesn't stop at stealing solids or liquids, he can also steal other Returner's talents.
  • Intangible Theft: Immaterial things like talent, power and knowledge is not safe from his arms.
  • Intangibility: The talent manifest in his right arm through, phasing through any obstacle and matter to "steal" whatever is inside or on the other side of the object.
  • Master of None: Concerning talent (the mundane, not the power). He has tried his hand on anything possible, but wasn’t able to achieve mastery in any of them.
  • Organ Theft: Taking Vlad III's heart to facade what he actually steals - his talent.
  • Power Copying: With his Left Arm of Usage, Touya has the ability to use stolen goods, allowing him to use the talents he has stolen with his Right Arm of Thievery. However, he can only use the degraded version of the original, though it has been implied that he might be able to surpass the original's talent through proper training.
  • Shared Family Quirks: He and his brother both possess the Talent to copy others’ Talent that requires them to train to use at its most effective.
  • Stronger Than They Look: He may seem like a frail nerd, but his obsessive journey to gain a talent (which probably did involve something like sport or martial arts) has rewarded him with a fit physique that comes in handy in his encounter with Albert Fish.
  • Villain Protagonist: Nearly became this if he didn’t have his Heel Realization in time and went on with his plan to steal the Talent of every Returner on Earth.

    Haito Le Buffett

Haito Le Buffett

”Don't come at me with something boring like that. Let's just try to cut each other, instead.”

Incarnation: Musashi Miyamoto

Touya Senji's foreign classmate. Famous in the school for her genius abilities in swordsmanship, Haito is the subject of several rumors, such as her being banned from kendo tournaments due to being too strong or that she stalks the streets at night attacking people. The truth is that Haito is a Returner, and her returned talent is the genius swordsmanship from the famous Japanese samurai, Musashi Miyamoto, who became renowned through stories of his excellent and unique double bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record in his 60 duels. He was the founder of the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū or Niten-ryū style of swordsmanship.
