Venezuela
Official Name: Venezuela
Ruling Party: Administración de Vicente Lecunanote
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote
- The Coup: Venezuela has had plenty of these over the last century, which is represented in-game as a stability penalty. The most recent one occurred due to the economic situation brought on by the Great War and a coffee blight, which forced the Gómez regime to slash subsides to foreign oil companies. The Venezuela Development Company lost much of its funding, and after eighteen months of running on a skeleton crew and little maintenance, one of its refineries exploded. Investors pulled out in droves, the domestic petroleum industry collapsed, and the government was overthrown.
- Crippling Overspecialization: Venezuela's inability to export their oil deposits has caused it to rely on just exporting coffee for their economy. This may come back to bite them, making finding a new income source urgent for the treasury.
- I'm Not Doing That Again: After a massive explosion at a joint British-Venezuelan refinery brought down Venezuela's previous regime and its nascent oil industry, Venezuelans of all classes are understandably quite weary of any attempt to tap into the nation's petroleum deposits again. With the deteriorating economic situation, though, Lecuna is mighty tempted to try just that...
- MegaCorp: The influence and power of the Seven Sisters, a group of powerful international companies controlling the market of crude oil, looms over the country as it greatly relies on its oil exports.
- Revolving Door Revolution: There have been more than fifty attempted coups in Venezuela since its independence in 1819. It has a national spirit calling it the "Land of Countless Coups".
