    Recurring "Good" Original Characters

Mystic

The protagonist of the series, Mystic is a twenty-something autistic writer who is consistently pursued by the Cursed God. She is rather intelligent, perceptive, persistent, and caring, but she is also shown to be extremely self-deprecating, self-sabotaging, and fairly skeptical, implying trust issues with both others and herself. Mystic also has trouble moving past her mistakes and tends to have a short temper; this is particularly notable during the times she gets angry when people like Envy try to derail and/or end the story, as she believes it's the only way she can actually have an impact on anything and where she can be a hero. She also doesn't like the idea of taking shortcuts, as she believes there's no merit in doing so.
  • Author Avatar: Mystic's character is explicitly based on the creator of the series, sharing many traits between them.
  • The Ingenue: Despite the villains seeing or treating her as one, Mystic is not actually the case. While she can be kind-hearted and wants to be loved, she tends to drop F-bombs on the regular, even in her first-person narration. On top of that, she can be short-tempered and willing to throw hands when need be.

Alice

Alice is/was a secondary protagonist of the series. She is Mystic's best friend.

    Recurring Antagonists

The Cursed God

The Cursed God is the primary antagonist of the series. After being let into the fandom by Mystic, he becomes enamored with her; however throughout the series, it's implied that he would've fallen in love with her anyway, as the soul of his first love is inside of her. He has a disturbing obsession with her being innocent and pure and believes that she can lower the barrier between reality and fiction.

Killer Kerrie

  • Monster Clown: Somewhat subverted in contrast with the source material; she's more annoying than scary.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The leader of the Killer Clowns is unnamed in the source material, and is nicknamed 'Kerrie' by the side of the fandom from which OET originated.
  • Playing Both Sides: She's not afraid to admit that she'd go running back to the Cursed God if Spooksville falls apart.
