     Squad One in General

Squad One in My Superhero Academy

Zach: Okay, so I'm pretty sure the teacher is just fucking with us at this point.
Sam: Samuel Everett, hero aspirant. For however long I remain alive...
Ellie: Mikael's my boyfriend. But we're pretty open, so if you ever want to blow off some steam, just let us know, k?
Shane: ...there's just a few things you gotta know about me - I'm a bro, I love partying and getting laid, and I workout erryday.
Yoko: If... only... the kitsune is worthy to ascend at all. Eiju was raised by Inari-sama, so he's had good graces all his life. Mostly. But enough. I, on the other hand...

Squad One is...tricky. It is affectionately known as 'Team Anime' but also as team dark secrets, as about everyone on that squad has some dark secret which they confide in no one. (At least at first). For team dynamics, it loosely orbits around Zach as its main drivers are the Bash Brothers (Zach and Sam) and the Battle Couple (Zach and Yoko). Shane and Ellie are dormmates but both have stronger interactions outside the squad.

  • Dark Secret: Every member of the squad save Sam has one bubbling under their skin. And Sam is excluded only because he had a year to spill his already.
  • Sentai: Affectionately known as Team Anime

     Zach Hirshbaum
Player: Michael Dj 54

  • Abusive Parents: Zach's father was an abusive, aggressive drunk who took it out on his wife and son whenever he felt slighted. His crowning achievement, however, was selling his own son to a cult.
  • Art Attacker: His ink is his main form of attacking, usually in the form of drawing said weapons, with tendrils defaulting as blunt objects.
  • Battle Couple: With Yoko.
  • Combat Tentacles: How his ink defaults when in combat.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: He was told at a young age that he was going to die a lot earlier than anticipated, so a large majority of the stuff that happens to him, he accepts with a smile.
  • Declaration of Protection: He's protective of everyone in his class and squad, but the Declaration part specifically goes to Yoko as a way of establishing their relationship.
  • Happily Married: To Yoko, though not in the human sense, the Kitsune sense.
  • Luminescent Blush: How he often reacts when Yoko decides to tease him, with heavy blushing on its most basic to catatonic shutdown on the worse ones.
  • Nice Guy: Thus far, Zach has been upfront, friendly and optimistic about almost EVERYTHING. Sure, as of recent he's grown somewhat snark-y, but that comes with the territory of his class.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: Technically he draws whatever he needs, but his weapons are LITERALLY anything he draws, from Power Gauntlets to BFS.
  • The Quiet One: Zach hasn't uttered a single word since the roleplay started. Apparently, it has something to do with the ink itself.
  • The Pollyanna: He grew up poor, with an abusive father who at one point sold him to a cult for some quick cash. He never once lets it affect him and continues to be a nice, friendly guy.
    • Stepford Smiler: An alternate interpretation of how he acts, especially when he just seems to accept the idea of him dying at such a young age without so much as bating an eye.
  • They're Called "Personal Issues" for a Reason: The apparent reason that Zach keeps his secret.

     Sam Everett (Snow Leopard)
Player: Blueace

     Ellie
     Shane Calston
Player: Nick The Swing

  • An Ice Person: Has ice powers, and claims that is all he has.
  • Beneath the Mask: On the surface, a Dumb Jock out to have sex, lift, and party hardy. On the inside, a cold-blooded, ruthless man associated with mercenaries. He uses the phrase "evil succeeds when good men do nothing" in a way that means "evil wins if good isn't willing to suspend all niceness and do what needs to be done."
  • Combat Pragmatist: Uses his ice powers extremely pragmatically, including freezing people to the bone, trying to mess up their running, dropping icicles...
  • Dark Secret: His real personality and the true extent of his powers.
  • Dumb Jock: On the surface at least.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As messed up and calculating as Shane is, even he has his limits. He found Mikael's growing egotism, conceit, and questionable attitudes to be readily detestable.
  • Heroic Build: Shane is absolutely ripped, his looks copied from an outright male model.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: As part of his jock act, Shane is very much the typical sex hungry dudebro. He's very open about what he does and with who.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Very different from other werewolves in the RP. Unlike them, he shifts between forms quickly and easily, and is differentiated by being called a Skinwalker instead of a Werewolf. In other words, a powerful, sorcerous werewolf associated with unsavory activities.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: His typical speed—he does bad things to bad people. He extorted and blackmailed his teachers in his old school...because they were taking advantage of at risk students in a number of ways, with one teacher implied to be using the at risk students in a distinctly despicable way.
  • Pragmatic Hero: Under the mask. He's willing to countenance wounding, maiming and all sorts of dirty fighting if it means less people die vs. the alternative.
  • Shirtless Scene: For most of the cast, being teleported out of their clothes was embarrassing. For Shane, it was a chance to show off his rippling musculature.
  • Stepford Smiler: Happy, perverted and somewhat hilarious jock on the surface, cold blooded mercenary on the inside. Though its even more eerie when he shows both "sides" blend together naturally.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Averted - Shane packs hand guns. Not that they played much of a role in the fight they were involved in. It was more the surprise he was willing to use those kinds of things.

“Zach-Isn't-Cooperating” Form

Yoko is the school's local Yōkai on the cusp of ascension; a kyūbi no kitsune with a mixed bag of experiences for a past and a lingering need for companionship and love. Initially acting like a traditional malevolent and selfish fox spirit in her early years, Yoko has slowly been beaten down by loss and the harsh realities of the world to the point where she's only wanting to atone for her actions in her final century as a mortal in hopes of seeing her loved ones in Heaven again. A prospect she's still aiming for, but seems to be becoming split between now that she's found love again. Yoko originally was disguised as Ash Phoenix's rather... disturbing plush toy, and as such only joined the class officially a month or so later.

Tropes

  • Asian Fox Spirit: Yōkai come in all shapes and sizes, but kitsune in particular are fundamentally still physical (albeit magical) foxes up until they become nine-tailed—still able to be Killed Off for Real with marginal difficulty as long as their tails are severed beforehand. Yoko has not yet ascended into a spectral state as is the norm for especially ancient kitsune, and as such is on the so-called "cusp" of godhood. Granted—of course—if she actually makes up for her sins in time to ascend in the first place.
  • Faux Flame: As is tradition with kitsune legends, Yoko can generate an ethereal, spiritual form of fire that does not require fuel, burns indiscriminately, and hurts both in a hot and cold fashion. Also manifests as lightning on occasion.
  • Hates Being Alone: After nearly a full millennia of watching every single one of her mortal friends, allies, lovers, and even family perish due to old age, Yoko is more than a little dependent on companionship. Her broken state upon the prospect of it happening again with Zach was such that the latter immediately jumped to a Declaration of Protection. Even now she seems to get anxious whenever she perceives she's offended someone in some way—and as illustrated below it also means she gets a little protective of her peers.
  • Happily Married: To Zach, but only in the traditional kitsune terms rather than mortal marriage.
  • Master of Illusion: A kitsune power based on mythology. Yoko can cast realistic illusions that can affect practically every sense in her target's body, and can even apply complex Glamours to herself and others as distractions. She uses this most notably in the Licensing Exams to create ghostly duplicates of the squad for use as diversions.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Technically over 900 years old, but the point stands. Comes hand in hand with being an ex-seductress and a shapeshifting trickster fox, of course. Even in her more mature true form she still doesn't look a day past her thirties.
  • The Pollyanna: Zig-Zagged. Yoko certainly appears to be to those unfamiliar to her—and it is her favourite guise to use—but it often ends up fraying into a more stressed and anxious persona. Would be averted if not for her ‘personality shapeshifting.’
  • The Trickster: Has had a history, as would be expected. Toned down from her earlier years, but she still notably can't resist teasing her boyfriend or literally anyone else who vaguely deserves it.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: To Zach, most definitely. Even before the couple became official she sent dirty glares towards Dawn when she tried to help her comfort the boy during a bout of anxiety from the latter. Since then she has vowed through gritted teeth to protect him from whatever his ink was doing to him and coldly warned Sam to stop Dope Slapping him on threat of death.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Naturally. Of both physical and mental means, Yoko can alter her form and identity and even change into small objects if need be. The downside of course being that her fur and foxy features are still able to be felt regardless of how intricate the form is. And let's not even get started on her clothes.
