League of Realms

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3243064_thorgot2012015_col_copy.jpg

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #14

A team of representatives from various races inhabiting once Nine, now Ten Realms, whose alliance represents a multilateral unity of purpose against their foes.

  • Fire-Forged Friends: At first their teamwork was severely lacking, but after enough battles, they become True Companions.
  • Multi National Team: More like Multi-Realm team, but it has members of nearly every major species on the Nine (later Ten) realms: Thor and later Sif (Asgard), Honeyshot (Alfheim), Screwbeard (Nidavellir), Oggy and later Vaetilda (Jotunheim), Waziria (Svartalfheim), Bloodroot (Vanaheim) and Fernande (Heven). Roz Solomon was Midgard's representative for a time. Only Niflheim and Muspelheim aren't represented.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They weren't particularly impressed with Spider-Man nor they liked his stance on not killing. Spidey did earn their respect when he led them and not only convinced Fernande to defect, he managed to rescue Waziria from the Kurse armor.

Alter Ego: Ivory Honeyshot

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #14

A Light Elf from Alfheim and member of the League of Realms.

  • The Gunslinger: He's very good at shooting his golden dual pistols.
  • Odd Friendship: Works surprisingly well alongside Screwbeard the Dwarf and Ud the Troll.
  • Our Elves Are Different: He's a Light Elf, from one of the many tribes that inhabit his realm.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: His list of titles include: Sir Ivory Honeyshot, Lord of Longrose Hall, Baron of the Order of the Petalblade, First Cavalier in the Royal Dragoon of Her Holy Majesty Queen Featherwine of the Fey. No wonder Spider-Man just calls him by his last name.

    Screwbeard

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #14

A Dynamite Dwarf of Nidavellir and member of the League of Realms.

  • Elves Versus Dwarves: Unlike what conventional wisdom would say, he actually works well with the Light Elf Honeyshot. He sure doesn't like Dark Elves, though.
  • Odd Friendship: Develops one with Ud the Troll, considering Trolls are the most common enemies of dwarves.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Love of dynamite aside, he's pretty typical for a dwarf.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: As expected from a dynamite dwarf, Screwbeard knows how to make a good 'splode.
  • Third-Person Person: He usually refers to himself this way.

    Lady Waziria

As Kurse

Alter Ego: Waziria, Kurse

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #13

A Dark Elf of Svartalfeim and sorceress injured by Malekith the Accursed. She would later be turned into the new Kurse by Malekith.

  • And I Must Scream: Trapped within the Kurse armor, she practically begged her former teammates to grant her a Mercy Kill. Luckily Spider-Man and Bloodroot managed to separate her from the armor before it was necessary.
  • Artificial Limbs: Lost her right arm to Malekith, she used her magic to grow a wooden arm by bonding it to a magical branch.
  • Green-Skinned Space Babe: She's a blue-skinned Dark Elf and not bad looking at all.
  • Last of Its Kind: She's the last member of her tribe after Malekith massacred her entire village.
  • Magic Knight: She's a Dark Elf sorceress who's very skilled at swordsmanship.
  • Old Shame: In Universe. She was once the Accursed's lover, and looks back at those days with shame.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Since Malekith considered Algrim no longer useful, she was forcefully turned into the new Kurse to serve as muscle for Malekith.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She was the only female in the first assembly of the League of Realms. When she finally rejoins, there are now two other women on the team (Vaetilda and Fernande).
  • Taking the Heat: She agreed to take Malekith's place in Nastrond Prison and later she was forced to become the new Kurse.

    Ud the Troll

Ud the Troll

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #14

A Rock Troll who joins the League of Realms.

  • Bash Brothers: Develops into this with Screwbeard the dwarf.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Fittingly, he's pretty loud when fighting.
  • Faking the Dead: Thor pretended to execute him so he could draw out Malekith's spy, not knowing he was the one being bugged, literally.
  • Good Counterpart: He's very similar to Ulik the Rock Troll, although smaller and with a slightly different outfit.
  • Token Heroic Orc: Or Troll in this case. He's the only known Rock Troll who has fought on the side of good.

    Oggy

Oggy

Alter Ego: Oggmunder Dragglevadd Vinnsuvius XVII

First Appearance: Thor: God of Thunder (vol. 1) #14

No. Not that blue cat.

A mountain giant of the Longstomp tribe from the hills of Jotunheim, and member of the League of Realms.

  • Big Guy Fatality Syndrome: The biggest member of the group, and ends up being killed trying to capture Malekith when the Dark Elf leaped in his mouth and slashed his brain.
  • Drinking Game: Thor challenged him to one, and the Asgardian barely managed to drink him below the table.
  • Overly Long Name: His full name is Oggmunder Dragglevadd Vinnsuvius XVII, which is why he's referred to as Oggy.
  • The Quiet One: Not one for words he barely made a noise when fighting Malekith.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Didn't get to see many battles before being killed by Malekith.

    Titanya Vaetilda Vinnsuvius

Titanya Vaetilda Vinnsuvius

First Appearance: The Mighty Thor (vol. 2) #13

A mountain giant who joined the League of Realms to replace the late Oggy.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She has dark green skin, unlike Frost Giants' blue skin.
  • Ambiguously Gay: The way she saves Fernande is strangely tender and almost romantic.
  • Gentle Giant: Unlike Frost Giants who usually oppose Asgard, she and other Mountain Giants are far more reasonable. She's one of the few members of the League who actually listened to Spider-Man's words.
  • One Degree of Separation: Her last name heavily implies she's a relative of Oggy.

    Ro Bloodroot

Ro Bloodroot

First Appearance: The Mighty Thor (vol. 2) #13

A wizard of Vanaheim who joined the League of Realms.

  • Magic Staff: Uses one to cast spells and hit enemies.
  • Making a Splash: Ro can control water thanks to his magic, he has shown the ability to use water to build solid shields.
  • Nemean Skinning: Uses as headdress the head of a purple wolf.
  • Nice Guy: He's easily the most even-tempered member of the League of Realms, and the one Spider-Man gets to go along with his instructions the quickest.
  • No-Sell: Unfortunately his cloaking spells are practically useless against Malekith's incantations.
  • Token Wizard: He's a Vanir and became the only member of the new group that uses magic after Waziria left.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a shirt, unlike Asgardians' elaborate outfits.

    Fernande

Fernande

First Appearance: Spider-Man & the League of Realms (vol. 1) #1

Angel from Heven (not to be confused with Heaven) that sides with Spider-Man and the League of Realms.

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: She's a member of the Tenth Realm and joins the League of Realms as their representative.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Spider-Man convinces her to turn on the Dark Council and help the League of Realms to stop Malekith.
  • Love Redeems: Her lover Anemone was the one who made her change from the materialistic and warmongering lifestyle of Angels.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Before she was loyal to the Queen of Heven, until she allowed her lover Anemone to be murdered by Malekith to satisfy the sadism of the Dark Elf. Then as soon as the opportunity presented itself, she quickly changed sides.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: She used to be like most of the Angels from Heven, until she learnt of love from her girlfriend Anemone.
  • Our Angels Are Different: These ones have the classic Winged Humanoid look, but they're not angels in the religious sense; they're mortal beings from the lost Tenth Realm of Heven (yes, without an 'a'). They're generally quite mercenary in attitude, and most think that Midgard is a myth. Curiously though, despite not being that kind of angel, her armor has what appears to be a golden cross on it.
  • You Are Not Alone: This is how Spider-Man gets to her when she tries to get herself killed, telling her she's not the only one who has lost a loved one on a senseless and evil act.
