Marines

East Blue Marines

    Morgan

Captain "Ax-Hand" Morgan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/morgan_anime.png

The commanding officer in charge of Shells Town, and Starter Villain of the Golden Cloud Pirates.

  • Abusive Parent: He was ready to kill his own son when the Golden Cloud Pirates fought back.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's not Ax-Hand Morgan for nothing.
  • The Caligula: Rules Shells Town with an iron fist, with everyone terrified of him.
  • Offing the Offspring: Was about to kill Helmeppo when the Golden Cloud Pirates started the fight.

    Jango

Jango

Formerly The Dragon of Kuro who joined the Marines after the failure on Syrup Island.

    Present Mic

Lieutenant "Present" Mic

Devil Fruit: Goe Goe No Mi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/present_mic_anime_artwork.png

A Navy Lieutenant who was a close friend of Tensei, and is devastated that Tenya became a Pirate.

  • Broken Pedestal: Tenya loses respect for him after he starves a pirate prisoner.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Izuku points out that Ochako, Ibara, and Noah aren't members of his crew, Mic allows them to step back without question.
  • It's Personal: While not as bad as Eraser, he wants to fight Izuku since he supposedly has Shirakumo's Devil Fruit.
  • Super-Scream: His Devil Fruit powers give him a powerful scream.
  • True Companions: Deconstructed. He is close friends with Eraser and Nemuri and with the late Tensei. But they are blind to each other's personality flaws (notably Eraser's Dogmatism and Nemuri's Bystander Syndrome).

    Nezumi

Captain Nezumi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nezumi_anime.png

A Marine Captain stationed near Arlong Park, who regularly takes bribes from the pirate himself.

  • Dirty Cop: The first Marine met who was taking bribes from pirates.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After Arlong is defeated and he tries to muscle in stealing all the Belli and credit, the Golden Cloud Pirates beat the stuffing out of him and his men.

    Eraser

Commander Eraser "The Mummy"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shouta_aizawa.png

A Marine Commander specialized in fighting Devil Fruit users with his Seastone-infused scarf.

  • Character Catchphrase: He is obsessed with others being "Irrational."
  • Foil: He is one to Smoker. Smoker is affable to youngsters, even if they are pirates, whereas Aizawa Would Hurt a Child. Both are also a bit of wildcards, but Eraser is absolutely callous to the detriment of his career and Smoker is level-headed enough to know not to be too reckless.
  • Hypocrite: He's obsessed with being "rational" and writes off others as "irrational," something which is funny when he puts civilians in danger to execute Izuku. Smoker writes him off as "irrational" for this stunt.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Him putting Tenya under Morgan ensured his defection.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He wanted to execute Izuku and held civilians hostage while Alvida rampaged just to make a show out of getting his late friend's Devil Fruit back, with everyone knowing his priorities were out of whack.
  • The Pig-Pen: The Golden Cloud Pirates that he's not very clean and kind of stinks.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Tries to have Izuku executed while holding civilians hostage while Alvida is on a rampage.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He's the reason Tenya was serving under Morgan.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Everyone who knows him knows that age is no issue to him fighting.

    Smoker

Captain "White Hunter" Smoker

Devil Fruit: Moku Moku No Mi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smoker_anime.png

A Marine Captain in charge of Loguetown who serves as a rival to the Golden Cloud Pirates.

  • Everyone Has Standards: He may hate pirates, but he knows Eraser crossed a line by endangering civilians just to kill Izuku.
  • Friend to All Children: He's introduced paying a kid for a new scoop of ice cream after she spills the first one on him.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: He wasn't supposed to abandon Loguetown to go after the Golden Cloud pirates, but Ethel knew he had good intentions and made his hunt official.
  • Team Dad: Nemuri looks at him as a dad to Tashigi and Katsuki.

    Tashigi

Petty Officer Tashigi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tashigi_anime_pre_timeskip_infobox.png

Smoker's second in command, who becomes obsessed with defeating Momo.

  • Black-and-White Morality: To her, Marines are heroes and Pirates are villains. Momo's first fight with her is her ripping this mindset apart.

    Katsuki

Seaman Recruit Katsuki

Devil Fruit: Bomu Bomu No Mi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png

A new recruit who joined in honor of his friend Izuku, only to find him alive and desiring to be King of the Pirates.

Grand Line - Paradise Marines

    Ethel

Vice-Admiral "Silver Coat" Ethel

Haki:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xc3_ethel.png

A Vice-Admiral who joins Smoker in the hunt for the Golden Cloud Pirates.

  • The Ace: A master swordswoman who became a Vice-Admiral at such a young age.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Downplayed since she's noted to be quite young to be a Vice-Admiral, with her subordinate Bolearis older than her.
  • Broken Pedestal: She starts to lose her respect for the Marines after hearing about how Agvania was destroyed by the Marines due to a Buster Call, something which Midorikuma objected to and led to the defection of 200 marines.
  • Mr. Exposition: When she realizes some of the Golden Cloud Pirates have it, and left in a position where she has to work with them, she ends up teaching them how to use Haki.
  • Tempting Fate: Once she and the Golden Clouds level Skypiea, Ethel decides to stick with them until the next island, believing they won't land at a Marine base. Cue them landing near G-8.
  • Their First Time: While intending to give Izuku a kiss on the cheek after defeating Enel in Chapter 33, she witnesses Izuku and Yui making love... And Yui somehow manages to persuade Ethel to join them!

    Bolearis

Bolearis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4d8ed73c_1d1c_4671_a8ad_2824256ebd6e.jpeg

Ethel's loyal Number Two and unlike most Marines in the series a legitimate Reasonable Authority Figure who truly wants to do good despite fully knowing that The World Government is not innocent in any way.

  • Cool Big Bro: How his relationship with Ethel comes off, their interaction being a lot more casual, playful, and openly friendly than most Vice-Admiral and their subordinates have in this series. Not only he's utterly at ease about playfully teasing her but he's also the one who reveals to her the history of the Agvinia Kingdom and about the aftermath of its destruction, and seems almost bittersweetly pleased about the fact that Ethel still has not only an untarnished sense of justice but a child-like delight in the wonders of the world.
  • Hidden Depths: Ethel is notably shocked when she learns that he almost joined "The Defection" after the destruction of The Agvinia Kingdom and is utterly ashamed that he didn't, painfully admitting he was afraid to do so.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: He very readily admits that he has absolutely no delusions about the "supposed" unimpeachable righteousness of the World Government, but still strives every day to be a force of good and the best example of what a truly Lawful Good Marine should be and his actions and attitude paint him as one of the best examples of a White Sheep Reasonable Authority Figure among The Marines. Like Smoker, he seems almost bittersweetly fond of the fact that the person he works alongside has not quite been consumed by cynicism.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He was recently promoted among The Marines just before he participated in the Buster Call at The Agvinia Kingdom, with the implication being that said promotion was the reason he was eligible to take part in it in the eyes of The World Government, and its made clear that he's been carrying a lot of self-loathing and hatred because of it.
  • Older Sidekick: He's Ethel's Number Two and portrayed as being several years older, at the very least.
  • Precocious Crush: Sheepishly admits to a very amused Ethel that he used to have a crush on Midorikuma (Midoriya Inko) when he was a young marine.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Unlike most Marines in the setting Bolearis is fully willing to accept that The World Government is full of corruption and horrifying ruthlessness and refuses to make excuses for their most brutal actions. Despite this (or maybe because of this) he strives to be a legitimate force for good, peace, and protection in the world and the safety and protection of civilians and innocents are absolutely his first priority.
  • Shipper on Deck: Pegs Ethel's fascination with Izuku being partially romantic in nature and wastes no time gently teasing her about it in the same way an older brother might to their younger sister. He seems truly amused by the fact that Ethel is utterly focused on "Golden Cloud" and gleefully jokes about being her Maid Of Honor at their hypothetical wedding without an ounce of shame.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Ethel. He outright states that he'd follow her to the gates of hell because she reminds him of why he originally became a marine and has nothing but utmost pride and respect for her.
  • White Sheep: Among the "older" generation of marines seen in the story (Nemuri, Aizawa, Mick, and even Smoker) he's one of the few marines not blinded by Black-and-White Morality and in his conversation with Ethel about the destruction of The Agvinia Kingdom seems in part done as a warning to her about the dangers of becoming consumed by this mentality. The fact that he almost joined "The Defection" makes it clear that he has a much more nuanced vision of what justice is and how the Marines should go on to deliver it. He's one of the few marines who seems to truly follow the concept of "Moral Justice".
  • Worth It: His response to every time Ethel punishing him with cleaning duty for teasing about her and Izuku getting together.

    Nemuri

Captain "Midnight" Nemuri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/midnight_anime_profile.png

A Marine Captain who starts investigating the Golden Cloud after freeing Arabasta.

    Jonathan

Vice Admiral Jonathan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jonathan_anime_infobox.png

A Marine Vice Admiral in charge of G8, and a highly respected marine.

    Jessica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jessica_anime_infobox.png

The head chef of G8 and Jonathan's wife.

  • Cooking Duel: Between herself and Ibara with Setsuna.
  • Humble Pie: She's humbled by Ibara after she points out how much was wasted in her and her chefs cooking.
  • Supreme Chef: She serves as one at G8, but becomes a true one after Ibara shows her how to not waste her ingredients.
