Grimm Fairy Tales
Sela Mathers
- The Captain: Generally takes lead when teaming up with other heroes
- Deconstructed Character Archetype: Sela Mathers is a deconstruction of The Storyteller trying to teach An Aesop to her readers.
- Sela starts the series as a teacher using her magic book to teach lessons to people to make the right choice by reading them dark fairytales showing the gruesome fate that awaits them if they continue down their destructive path. At first, things were good, and the people who read Sela's stories made the right choice and better their lives. But eventually, Sela meets people who ignore her advice; they eventually wreck their lives, showing that despite giving good advice and showing the consequences of continuing their bad behavior, there would be people who would ignore good advice and continue their actions. Some issues show that some things are too complicated for Sela and that reading her stories couldn't help the person she's trying to help.
- In the 'Goldie Locks and the Three Bears' story, the woman that was reading the book was trying to murder an older man that she married for money; when she read the book and tried to stop the murder, it was too late, and she was killed with Sela noteing that it was too late for that woman to make things right for her.
- The 'Bluebeard' story had Sela read a story to a woman who suspected her husband was having an affair; the story made the woman afraid her husband was going to kill her, so she stabbed her husband. However, to the women's horror, he was actually planning a surprise party for her and it's revealed that the woman was supposed to read the last page of the book that would've told her that the danger she thought she was in from her husband was just her paranoid fears.
- The 'Beauty and the Beast' story shows Sela reading her stories to a couple in a toxic and abusive relationship. Sela's story convinces the woman to break up with her boyfriend, but the boyfriend, who was revealed to come from an abusive home, decides to kill himself, with Sela noting that he was supposed to do the right thing and wonders why she should care.
- Eventually, Sela herself snaps because of all the people who destroyed their lives despite the advice she tried to give them and starts using the book to kill people that she believes deserve it. Sela only stopped after the person who gave her the book stepped in, and Sela was reminded of the time she read 'The Juniper Tree' to a woman who did the right thing but still lost her daughter anyway. Sela then accepted that despite how hard she tries, she will still lose people who will not take her advice, and she should focus on the people she can save instead.

- Early-Installment Weirdness: Sela's first appearance in the series showed her mimicking the role of the supposed Fairy Godmother in her version of "Cinderella," implying she would arrange for a girl named Cindy to get what she wants at the cost of her soul. In the next immediate issue, Sela helps out two runaways with no sinister goal in mind making her malevolent appearance in the previous story seem out of place moving forward. The creators mentioned at the start of the series that Sela was supposed to take on certain traits of whatever story she was discussing in each issue, but the aspect was forgotten about. Sela would later be confronted about this with no memory of dealing with Cindy, finding out she was being controlled by Belinda at the time.
- Heroic Sacrifice: In Grimm Fairy Tales Vol. 1 #125, she holds down the powerful entity Bloody Bones so that her daughter Skye can seal it away. Unfortunately, it does result in her getting sealed away with Bloody Bones.
- Hot Teacher: She was a college professor and currently heads Arcane Acres. The artwork also emphasizes her beauty and sexiness.
- Primary-Color Champion: Her outfit of choice works with a blue-yellow-red tricolour scheme: red thigh-high boots, a navy blue leotard, and yellow/gold ornaments.
- Smart People Wear Glasses: One of the few comic characters to always wear glasses who isn't a stereotypical nerd
- Put on a Bus: At the end of the first Volume of Grimm Fairy Tales in 2016 she sacrifices herself to stop the entity Bloody Bones getting sealed away with him in the process.
- The Bus Came Back: 7 years later, she makes her comeback in Grimm Fairy Tales Vol. 2 #76
Britney Waters
- The Berserker: Has trouble controlling her werewolf form.
- Little Red Fighting Hood: A gun-toting, katana-wielding girl wearing a red hood, like the classic fairy tale character, and is also afflicted with a werefolf curse.
- Our Werewolves Are Different: She's Little Red Riding Hood as a (were)wolf. Ouch.
Samantha Darren
Malec/The Dark One
- Greater-Scope Villain: The main villains of the spin-off titles are his servants.
- The Worf Effect: Was the biggest threat in the series until the combination of stronger villains and the heroes getting a few wins weakened him as a threat.
Belinda
- Greater-Scope Villain: One of the Wonderland back-up features implies she had a hand in setting up the various tragedies to curse the Liddle family.
- Villain Protagonist: Was the lead character for short while after Sela was imprisoned.
Baba Yaga
- Hotter and Sexier: Instead of the creepy bony-legged and sometimes large-nosed depiction of the Russian/Slavic tales, here she is a lean and young woman.
Wonderland
Calie Liddel/White Queen
- Absurdly Youthful Mother: While she did have Violet when she was teenager, she still looks rather young to be the mother of a teenager. Though given she is now the White Queen, that may not be an issue.
- Awesome Moment of Crowning: Became the White Queen and ruler of Wonderland after Clash of Queens.
- Significant Anagram: Her name is one to Alice.
Violet Liddel/Mad Hatter V
- Legacy Character: Is the fifth Mad Hatter
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Such as the nature of being the Mad Hatter
Mad Hatter
Jabberwocky
- Adaptation Expansion: In the original story and other adaptations, The Jabberwock was a mindless beast whose only purpose was to be slain, as he is only seen in the In-Universe poem Alice reads upon passing through the looking-glass. In this story, he is intelligent and the ruler of Wonderland.
- Adaptational Intelligence: It is implied he is a bestial monster in the "Jabberwocky" poem Alice reads, whereas in here he is an intelligent ruler.
- Killed Off for Real: Though there is a chance of him returning
Queen of Spades
Queen of Hearts
- Ax-Crazy: As per normal, she's got the Off with Her Head! mentality.
- Eaten Alive: The first victim of the Dream Eater
- Starter Villain: Was the major foe that Calie faces and plagues her through out the original trilogy.
Alice Liddel
- Posthumous Character: Any story than happens after Return to Wonderland had her as this. At least in the physical sense.
- Stripperific: Even by Zenescope standards. Only Dorothy Gale might have even less clothing.
Neverland
Nathan Cross
- Adaptational Heroism: He is the Grimmverse version of Captain Hook, but he's the hero.
- Shapeshifter Weapon: His hook can become a hand or a Arm Cannon
Wendy
- Badass Normal: Wendy's a surprisingly competent fighter despite having no formal training.
- Empowered Badass Normal: Becomes a fairy at the end of the 2021 annual.
- Mama Bear: She'll do anything to protect her nephews, even fight through hordes of zombies armed only with a sword.
- Promoted to Parent: When her brother and sister-in-law die.
Pan
- Adaptational Villainy: In this version, he's the villain.
- Brought Down to Normal: If he leaves Neverland, while he doesn't lose all his powers, he's far weaker and can be beaten by mere mortals.
- Physical God: While in Neverland, he is practically invincible.
Tinkerbell
- Fairy Sexy: Depicted as a fairy wearing barely nothing.
Oz
Dorothy Gale
- Adaptational Curves: Her Age Lift turned her from a pre-pubescent girl into a buxom young woman.
- Stripperific: Her farm girl clothing leaves very little to the imagination.
Toto
- Adaptational Badass: Looks like a giant wolf in this version
Zamora/Wicked Witch of the West
- Amazing Technicolor Population: Green skin, as usual.
- Hot Witch: She has a lot of her skin exposed and is definitely drawn in a more sexual way compared to most depictions of her.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: She's Dorothy's mother
- Vapor Wear: As can be seen in the illustration, she is clearly not wearing any underwear.
Robyn Hood
Robyn Locksley
- Fish out of Temporal Water: Averted, she takes to Bree pretty easily, it seems assholes are the same no matter where you are.
- Jerkass with a Heart of Gold: She is not the nicest person but she really does enjoy helping people, it's really the only time you can see her genuinely smile.
- Pay Evil unto Evil: Tends to make sure evil people suffer for their crimes... really, really suffer.
- Rape as Backstory: Her vigilante mindset was brought on by a desire for revenge against Cal, who gang-rapped her and slashed one of her eyes.
- Vigilante Man: Was this in the beginning. Evolved into an Angel style We Help the Helpless with Marion.
Marian
- Hot Witch: Has low-level magic powers that she slowly develops. She is also very pretty.
- Lipstick Lesbian: She kissed Robyn at one point, revealing an interest in girls. Then she falls in love with a woman named Sam and eventually marries her. Sadly, this doesn't last due to Sam being accidentally possessed by an eldritch horror and then being forcibly relocated to a distant galaxy for the equivalent of ninety years. By the time Marian and Robyn find her, she's remarried to a local alien woman.
Cal King/ Sheriff of Nottingham
- Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: His father is a rich business man and has the police force in his pocket.
- The Sociopath: Has absolutely no empathy for anyone. After he gets powers, he becomes worse.
