Live and Kicking
"You'd think the Quadrillion Peso Star Colony could afford some extra legroom..."
Carlos, Prologue

The Protagonist of Galactic Bulge. Carlos is a chilean man who can either be a Soldier, a Radio Operator or an Engineer, depending on the players choice. Such choices also affect his origins, which are usually murky. However, Carlos is usually very consistent across the board.

An excitable and eager young man. Carlos was born in the Sun Mirror, a giant plane of volcanic glass in the New Pacific Archipelago, and grew up in Mexico Chiisaa, a small latin community outside of Tokyo.

Tropes

  • Ambiguously Brown: In contrast to Luna, who is very clearly of mixed ancestry, Carlos only ever identifies himself and is identified by others as Chilean, but his middle name Kobayashi indicates at least some Japanese heritage.
  • Catchphrase: "La Raja!" and sometimes "Fantastico!"
    • "Zapatos de Rata!" for when things don't go his way.
  • Dark and Troubled Past
  • Dashing Hispanic
  • Extremity Extremist: Carlos is a male version of a Kick Chick. His mutation starts at his sides and ends at his feet, so kicking and stomping is where he's at his most dangerous.
  • Fetish: Carlos has a very pronounced attraction to large women. Given his attraction to Megumi, Hiroko, Luna or Harumi seems equal across all his routes, it seems he doesn't particularly care HOW they are large.
  • Height Angst: While Carlos loves the speed and In a Single Bound aspects of his mutation, he does often admit he's scared at the prospect of life needing special beds and showers and toilets because of his height.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Kick version, but the animated sprite of one of the rhythm fights shows him to be capable of this.
    • Word of God puts his speed of his kicks at 1500 kicks per minute. The speed of an average jackhammer.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Almost to the point of parody. Carlos' legs put him at a whopping 12 feet tall!
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Veers into his being a Picky Eater, but Carlos adores Peppers. Often to the point of eating them as if they were apples. A quick inspection of his mini fridge indicates he has almost nothing but sweet and spicy peppers, with a lone quesadilla.
    • The only consistent drink at he can order at the Bar is Ginger Ale. Carlos appears to have a thing for Spice.
  • Super-Speed: Carlos is extremely fast for a human being. While his top speed is never confirmed, it's hinted to be extremely close to the sound barrier.
    • Required Secondary Powers: Discussed. Carlos' speed is exclusively due to the mutations in his legs. So while his travelling speed is superhuman, his reaction time or upper body is not.
  • Supreme Chef: Zigzagged, when it comes to his specialties, Carlos does a very good job to the point it's addictive. Outside out of that narrow sphere he's nothing special.
  • Vague Age: One of two characters to avert this. Carlos is explicitly 27.

"My father owns 55% of the real estate on that goddamn planet."
Kaiko, Slum Lords
"So what you're saying is you've got huge tracks of land?."
Carlos

Tropes

  • Cold Sniper: At the beginning of her route. If Carlos is persistent enough, she slowly becomes a Friendly Sniper.
  • Mildly Military; While most girls are like this, it's mostly due to a combination of growing familiarity with Carlos and being met mostly while they are off duty. Kaiko is the only girl who's actively flippant and uncopperative while on duty. This is due to her being basically a conscript.
  • The Quincy Punk

"When you travel, you need to get stuck in! Eat the food, get charged double, kiss a stranger!"
Hiroko, Prologue

Tropes

  • The Ace: Hiroko was notably accomplished as a pilot before her mutation, being famous enough that Carlos recognized her name and face from magazine covers. She held several flight and speed records, and according to Carlos and Luna, is a bit of a national treasure.
  • Big Beautiful Woman
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Hiroko's mutation, like all of her type, allows her to create seismic waves.
  • Expy: According to her character Bible, Hiroko is "if Rainbow Dash were an obese Japanese woman."
  • You Are Fat: Interestingly, she prefers this attitude to herself. Hiroko doesn't mince words and prefers people be blunt about her situation.
