Lighting the Darkness universe

    General
  • De-power: Lord Yomi's death strips all of his witches and warlocks of their magic, as he was the source of it to begin with.
  • Holy Burns Evil: Yomi and his minions, being demonic in nature, can be injured by holy objects, such as holy water or Queen Equinox's symbols. Or any deity for that matter, Twilight included.
  • Immune to Bullets: Warlocks and Yomi's other minions can't be harmed by anything of mortal make. Turns out Twilight, being an Alicorn, technically doesn't qualify as mortal as far as this ability is concerned. As a result, anything she creates can hurt them.
  • La Résistance: There is one fighting against Lord Yomi and his forces. It is led by sisters Sunny Days and Moonlight.
  • Muggles: The majority of this universe's population are Earth Ponies but lack any magic. The Mane Six start teaching it to them to be able to beat them.
  • Super Mode: Moonlight, Sunny Days, Maud, Night Stalker, Orangejack, and Antiquity are the second group who get Super-Empowering from the Mane Six and gain Rainbow Power forms.
  • Takes One to Kill One: Yomi's forces can only be harmed by magic or those with strong enough magic. Given they live in a world of Muggles, this makes them near invincible. Unfortunately for them, the Mane Six are magic users and strong enough to curbstomp most of them. And have enough know-how to make magic weapons and teach the natives magic.
  • The Magic Comes Back: Lord Yomi and his forces returning brought this about, though unfortunately only villains had it. The Mane Six arriving brought it back to the good side.
  • The Magic Goes Away: Turns out that this happened already in this world, and it's why Yomi and his forces had such an easy time taking over.

    Night Stalker
  • Action Survivor: Despite being incapable of harming the horrors attacking his world, he's still able to handle himself pretty well.
  • Defiant to the End: Tries to distract Bad Omen despite knowing he can't hurt him.
  • Friendly Sniper: Is a sniper, but overall friendly towards the mane six.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Trades his sniper rifle for a bow and arrow. Justified, as said arrows have silver heads, which can actually hurt Yomi's minions. As they only have so much silver, an arrow head that can be recovered is more practical than bullets that can only be reliably used once. Even after they have enough to make bullets, he keeps with it.

    Sunny Days
  • Alternate Self: Is an alternate version of Princess Celestia.
  • Armor Is Useless: Subverted. She and her sister wear stylized armor simply to help them survive confrontations with Yomi's minions. Twilight later gives it an upgrade with a silver coating and runes to make it much more useful.
  • Ass Kicks You: Sat on at least one shrunken Warlock who got defiant during an interrogation.
  • Chrome Champion: Twilight later upgrades her armor with a silver coating and magic runes. This gives her magic resistance and because being magical in nature allows her to damage Yomi's minions.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Ascends into an Alicorn.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Ascends along with her sister during the Final Battle with Lord Yomi.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Already an Action Survivor, Twilight gives her a suit of magic armor and Applejack teaches her basic Earth Pony magic on top of it. She later gets a magic surge mode.
  • Good Is Not Soft: She's nicer than her sister, but also still willing to fight in brutal ways and kill if needed, due to the nature of the conflict she's in.
  • Limit Break: Her magic surge, which is basically the magical equal of an adrenaline rush.
  • Meaningful Name: Is renamed Celestia by Queen Equinox when she ascends into an Alicorn.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Hears out the mane six and is reasonable to them.
  • Rebel Leader: One of the leaders of La Résistance against Lord Yomi.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Is a reasonable, friendly person and optimistic, compared to her sister's more cold and suspicious personality.
  • You Killed My Father: A Greater Demon named Dagon executed her and her sister's parents.

    Moonlight
  • Alternate Self: Is an alternate version of Princess Luna.
  • Armor Is Useless: Subverted. She and her sister wear stylized armor simply to help them survive confrontations with Yomi's minions. It also has built in weapons. Twilight later upgrades it with silver and magic runes to make it not only more effective at that, but letting them harm Yomi's minions.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Is a good guy, but she's also willing to be brutal in combat and kill if needed, moreso than her sister, due to the situation they're in.
  • Limit Break: Her magic surge, which is basically the magical equal of an adrenaline rush.
  • Meaningful Rename: Is renamed Luna by Queen Equinox when she ascends.
  • Mercy Kill: Attempts this on a Forgotten One (a pony transformed into a monster by Yomi who they're generally incapable of doing anything for). Thankfully, Fluttershy is able to purify them, negating the need of this.
  • Properly Paranoid: Doesn't trust the mane six that much, but has justifiable reasons for it given the only other magic users in their universe are all evil.
  • Rebel Leader: One of the leaders of La Résistance against Lord Yomi.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Is colder, suspicious, and confrontational compared to her warm and welcoming sister.
  • Talk to the Fist: How she replies to Yomi's Deal with the Devil.
  • Terror Hero: Makes an effort to scare and intimidate Yomi's minions once she gains the ability to actually hurt them.
  • You Killed My Father: A Greater Demon named Dagon executed her and her sister's parents. While her sister is also upset about it, Moonlight seems way more upset about it, to the point of telling Twilight to her face that she has little intent of taking Dagon alive when he shows up herself.

    Maud Pie

    Antiquity
  • And I Must Scream: Yomi turned her into a Forgotten One to silence her, but Fluttershy purified and saved her.
  • Badass Bookworm: Is an archaeologist and rather intelligent, but also knows about Queen Equinox and can use her name and symbols to do some serious damage. Or any deity's for that matter.
  • The Dreaded: Yomi turned her into a Forgotten One specifically because he feared what someone who learned about Equinox could do, both personally and by spreading knowledge of her. Given Antiquity's performance against his forces, he was justified.
  • He Knows Too Much: The reason she was turned into a Forgotten One: she'd uncovered the lost knowledge of Queen Equinox and thus various means to harm Yomi and his forces. Unfortunately for Yomi, Fluttershy purified her and let her tell the resistance.
  • White Mage: Unlike most of the world's inhabitants, she knows of the past before they forgot their goddess and their magic, and thus is capable of invoking deities to make various holy objects and spells that can harm Yomi and his forces. A favorite of hers is holy water.

    Orangejack
  • Action Girl: Is a Samurai Jack Expy, so this goes without saying. She's good enough to fight one of the Four Kings with just Pinkie's help and win.
  • Alternate Self: Is an alternate Applejack.
  • Cool Sword: Has a magical katana forged from a meteor that was infused with Queen Equinox's essence. And also forged by Twilight and Mothra. These traits make it very effective against Yomi and his forces. By the time we see her again, she's named it Aku no Bēn, or Evil's Bane.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Learned Earth Pony magic and was equipped with a magical sword, but was already trained from a young age to be an amazing fighter.
  • Expy: Of Samurai Jack.
  • Forged by the Gods: Needed to find a god to forge her katana. She eventually found Twilight, who had brought over Mothra Lea to help, so her sword was forged by two deities.
  • Named Weapon: She names her magic sword Aku no Bēn, or Evil's Bane after using it to help slay Lord Yomi.
  • Ninja: Like her basis, she's trained in Ninjutsu as well and uses it to counter Umi's teleport spam with Pinkie's help.

    Queen Equinox
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Darkness is one of the things she ruled over, but she was decidedly benevolent.
  • God Is Dead: Was Equus's benevolent goddess, but died saving it from an asteroid. This was a bad thing, as gradually Legend Fades to Myth and she was forgotten, resulting in both ponies forgetting how to exploit Holy Burns Evil against Yomi and his forces and the ritual to keep Yomi sealed away.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Died saving Equus from an asteroid.
  • Light Is Good: Light was one of the things she ruled over, and she was benevolent.
  • Posthumous Character: Died long ago saving Equus from a meteor. Her spirit still watches over the world, however.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: The Goddess of Light and Darkness.

Villains

    Umi

    Jishin

    Nobi
  • Blood Knight: Loves a good fight.
  • Co-Dragons: One of Yomi's Four Kings.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: Is ecstatic when the heroes actually manage to harm him, as it's actually exciting to finally be injured and challenged.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Explodes upon death.
  • Eldritch Abomination: His One-Winged Angel form is one, being a chaotic mass of reptile, dinosaur, and dragon parts with way too many heads.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Is the only one of the four who takes their impending defeat well, despite being one of two to die.
  • Fallen Hero: Was trying to keep Lord Yomi sealed away, but the Demon managed to convince him to join him instead.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Normal water just evaporates on contact with him, only holy water actually effects him and makes him vulnerable.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: Is basically a equine shaped chimera of reptiles. His One-Winged Angel form takes it up a notch and adds in dinosaurs and dragons to the mix.
  • One-Winged Angel: After being filled with arrows, battered, and sent through a wall by the heroes, he transforms into an Eldritch Abomination made of bird parts.
  • Playing with Fire: Is the King of Fire and thus can manipulate it. He also seems to be made of fire, and only becomes material if hit with holy water.
  • Victory Is Boring: Hasn't had anything resembling a challenge or anything interesting happen to him in a long time and thus is completely apathetic to everything around him. He becomes extremely excited when the heroes actually manage to hurt and give him a good fight because it's the only interesting thing to happen to him in a long time.
  • Was Once a Man: Used to be a pony who became what he is now after a Deal with the Devil with Yomi.
  • Worth It: His reaction to his impending death, as he finally got to have some excitement in the preceding fight.

    Fubo
  • Blow You Away: The King of Air and has powers revolving around it, including tornadoes and Razor Wind.
  • Break the Haughty: Is extremely full of himself and proud...and Rainbow Dash makes sure to rip his ego apart because of his evil nature and many crimes.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: His One-Winged Angel form, unlike his fellows, doesn't help him much at all because he's too Unskilled, but Strong to actually make use of the benefits it gives him and thus just made himself a bigger target.
  • Co-Dragons: One of Yomi's Four Kings
  • Eldritch Abomination: His One-Winged Angel form is one, being a chaotic mass of bird parts with way too many heads.
  • Fallen Hero: Was trying to keep Lord Yomi sealed away, but the Demon managed to convince him to join him instead.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Was originally a butler who was pushed around by his bosses and family, but is now one of the Yomi's most dangerous minions.
  • Hypocrite: Rainbow Dash calls him out on daring to accuse her beating him as unfair given how he and his boss treat everyone they've enslaved.
  • Meteor Move: On the receiving end from Rainbow Dash, who Sonic Rainbooms him through a skyscraper to defeat him.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: Is an equine shaped chimera of birds. His One-Winged Angel form takes this up a notch.
  • One-Winged Angel: After getting his tail kicked by Rainbow Dash, he transforms into an Eldritch Abomination made of bird parts. It doesn't help him much.
  • Smug Super: Has a very high opinion of himself and is extremely powerful by his world's standards.
  • Super-Speed: Has super speed enough to keep up with Rainbow Dash.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Is extremely fast and powerful...but also has zero actual fighting skills, completely relying on his powers. Rainbow Dash completely dominates him because she's fast enough to keep up with him, but also combat trained and knows martial arts.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Slowly has a meltdown as Rainbow Dash takes him apart.
  • Was Once a Man: Used to be a pony who became what he is now after a Deal with the Devil with Yomi.

    Lord Yomi
  • Animalistic Abomination: His true form is equine shaped but clearly anything but.
  • Arc Villain: The main villain of the arc in his world.
  • Big Brother Is Watching You: Has demonic eyes flying around to spy on the populace. They're connected to the giant eye he put on the moon, and die off when he reabsorbs it.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • Managed to make one with the Four Kings to let him escape his prison instead of performing the ritual to keep him sealed in exchange for the boons he offered. He tries to make a similar one with Twilight, Moonlight, and Sunny Days when the confront him, but they all turn him down.
    • All of the Witches and Warlocks made one with him for their powers. As a result, his death causes them to all lose their power.
  • Eldritch Abomination: His One-Winged Angel form is this, being a Lovecraftian Kaiju-sized monstrosity.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: His true form has an eye on its chest and a head covered in them. His One-Winged Angel form is covered in them.
  • Evil Overlord: Rules over his universe's Equus as a tyrannical despot.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Is polite when the heroes finally confront them, and offers them a Deal with the Devil. He quickly drops the act when they turn him down.
  • Hellfire: Uses a lot of it and has it as part of his body.
  • Horns of Villainy: His true form has a pair of ram horns.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: The form he initially appears in to try and make a Deal with the Devil with the heroes is a well dressed black stallion. He drops it when he transforms.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction to seeing Sunny Days and Moonlight ascend and become Celestia and Luna, reminding him of Equinox in the process.
  • One-Winged Angel: After being thrown out of his tower and falling all the way to the ground, he reabsorbs the eye he put on the moon (which was connected to his spy eyes) to regain his full power, transforming into a Kaiju-sized Eldritch Abomination.
  • Our Demons Are Different: Is a demon that emerged to conquer the world and rule it.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Is revealed to have been imprisoned in the moon's shadow by Queen Equinox long ago. Ponies forgot the rituals needed to maintain his seal, allowing him to escape.
  • This Cannot Be!: His reaction to both Sunny Days and Moonlight ascending and his death.
