Hero

    Hero/Heroine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dqx___hero_heroine_v2.png
The chosen savior of humanity from the monsters led by the evil Netherlord Nelgel, who had kidnapped their sibling... Or at least, they should have been. Instead they and their village, Tenton, is destroyed by Nelgel himself before placing it in a barrier of darkness. Fortunately, they are given a second chance to save Tenton by reincarnating in world's five civilized races: an Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Poppet, or Wetling. Once restored to the land of the living in the territory of their new race, the Hero must adjust to their new body, reunite with their siblings, and avenge Tenton.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Version 4 has Padre, the Hero's father, who is leading the main forces of the part thanks to being brainwashed by Kyronos. Later becomes Mom as well, as Melona is later possessed by Kyronos after Padre is freed so to complete his ascension.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Becomes the newest King of the Netherworld, and still helps their allies like Anlucia and Estelle
  • First-Episode Resurrection: They're killed in the end of their prologue. Fortunately, Galapagod was still around to rescue their soul and allow them to be reborn in a non-human race by using a recently deceased corpse, such as an Ogre dying in a snowstorm, or an Elf dying by accidentally messing up a magic seal they were painting. You eventually have the chance to regain your original body thanks to the gods so that you can travel in time.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: In Version 4, using a strange silver cube called the Time-Trotter's Trinket, they find themselves in 5000 years into the past. In truth, they originated from there, but were sent to the present to fulfill their destiny.
  • The Hero: But of course!

Anlucia

    Anlucia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dqx_anlucia.jpg
A princess and ally to the Hero/Heroine. Found in the illusionary Rendacia as a simple girl living in a village, she lost her memories of her time as a princess thanks to Zerudorado, a general of Maldragora.
  • Breakout Character: She's become the face of Dragon Quest X in spinoff representation in a similar manner to Y'shtola from Final Fantasy XIV.
  • Break the Cutie: The death of the Hero at the hands (Or rather tail) of Patriarch Orstov while hopelessly trying to revive them with Kazing, causes her to nearly kill herself though the Regional Gods of Astoila manage to revive the Hero.
  • Evil Twin: The final boss of version 2.0 is an evil clone of herself, called Anlucia the Maluminary. She was created to keep the real Anlucia from realizing she was the original.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Despite being defeated by Valeria after the Netherworld's doors were opened, after Anlucia gets a full understanding of the problems facing the Netherworld and Asotila, being that they need to put their differences aside to defeat Jagonuba, she eventually becomes friends with Valeria, even offering to have a friendly spar with her after the Great Source of Darkness is defeated.
  • Fusion Dance: Her two personalities of her princess self and villager self fuse when she reclaims her memories and power.
  • Identity Amnesia: Thanks to Zerudorado, she loses her memories and is instead turned into a simple villager. They're restored thanks to 3 magic butterflies.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Illustrations and events often have her appearing in swimsuits and other revealing outfits, such as the Crimson Catsuit.
  • Mythology Gag: Her red garb is very reminiscent of the Hero vocation outfit from the remake of Dragon Quest VII.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Anlucia breaks through the slab blocking her from the Hero and their Sibling just when they were starting to understand their true intentions, allowing Illusia and Nalasia to walk through, which slightly awakens Jagonuba, who summons Daviyaga the Tyrannical Deity, when the Great Source of Darkness detects his avatar body as well as the avatar body of his arch enemy.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Anlucia isn't just any badass Dragon Quest princess, she also falls under the Hero class; which means she has all the skills and magic sets that traditional Dragon Quest Heroes can learn.
  • Taken for Granite: Or Taken for Crystals in this instance. During the attack on the Crystal Tower, she gets turned into a crystal statue, despite trying to block the beam that also turned some Ogre soldiers into crystal statues. She gets better after the Jia Kut Clan's monster minions are banished after the defeats of Jia Lumina and Jia Leone, though.
