Japanese Representative (WABC)

    Dora Ichiro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/795ce240_990b_4c9a_9054_91faab7db372.jpeg

Position: Right fielder
Jacket number: 1

Top batter of the Boso Turtles. Known to possess a 100% batting accuracy, but is reduced to 80% after he got defeated by Doras.

In the sequel, he leaves for America and joins Seattle Marines.

  • The Ace: He possesses incredible batting accuracy and is well-regarded as a genius.
    • He is also pretty good as a pitcher, as shown when he temporarily replaces Shiro in the last stretches of the match against Australia in WABC arc.
  • Meaningful Name: "Ichi" means "One" in Japanese, which is also his jacket number and represents his Ace status.
  • Not So Above It All: Dora Ichiro might be the stoic ace, but he is not above showing silly antics at various points. Just look at him snapping tons of burgers in a bonus story of Volume 16.
  • The Stoic: Keeps his composure most of the time, and is amongst the most collected characters in the series.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Is quite serious, cool-headed and composed, but shows a sweeter and warmer side as he appreciates Chibi's passion for baseball during his first encounter with Doras.
  • The Worf Effect: A frequent victim of it. Due to how he has great accuracy in batting, when he can’t hit the ball, it’s to show how good the opponent pitcher is. Guess how many good pitchers he has faced during the story course.

    Oreemon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fdba9e54_d5af_4202_be13_4e5f03a645b6.jpeg

Position: Shortstop
Jacket number: 6

Captain of the Akita Orions. Very good at scoring homeruns.

  • Acrofatic: One of the largest players in the series and plays as a shortstop, a position that requires a lot of movement and speed defensively. And he does a pretty good job in it despite his size.
  • Determinator: Who has a leg injury and still runs on the field through sheer willpower alone? Him!
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: During the match against the USA in WABC, he managed to hit Drump's Royal Straight Flush ball with his sheer strength, something that not even Kuro is capable of doing just yet. And keep in mind he does all of this while being fatally injured. To top that off, he still manages to reach the base!
  • Heroic RRoD: Prior to attending the WABC, Oreemon was suffering from a serious leg injury but he pushed it aside to not worry his teammates. He, however, was unable to contain it any longer and collapsed after scoring.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Due to his skills, Oreemon can be quite callous and overly proud sometimes. Still a good guy within it all, as shown from his willingness and determination to help his team in WABC despite his injuries.
  • Super-Strength: One of his biggest assets, and the reason why he's very good at scoring homeruns. It also helps a lot when he was forced to face off against Drump's Royal Straight Flush magic pitch.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Doesn't get along well with Amoll at first, particularly in the match with UK in WABC. As the arc progresses however, they grow to appreciate each other.

    Kinuemon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e15d6196_b435_4394_9fee_4c1029a5e38e.jpeg

Position: Third baseman
Jacket number: 5

A player of the Hiroshima-based team Tetsujin Gundan. He has a huge body along with high stamina.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Scored a grand slam during the match against Cuba in the WABC arc after, which lifted the rest of the spirits of his team as they were facing a terrible slump in the whole match.
  • Determinator: Best shown in the match against Cuba where he expresses the wish to take part in fulfilling Kuro's promise for Hiroshi in winning the WABC.
  • Face of a Thug: He might look terrifying, but is actually quite gentle and passive most of the time.
  • Gentle Giant: In spite of his appearance saying otherwise.
  • The Quiet One: Generally taciturn and is not a man of many words.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Mixed with The Stoic as he never changes his expressions other than the frown he always had.

    Mazui

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/719040ef_5141_422f_9018_267d38502e5b.jpeg

Position: Third baseman
Jacket number: 5

A player who has a great will. He plays for the Ishikawa Yankees.

  • Determinator: Said to have great will, and never accept losing to Kuro.
  • Only Sane Man: He is the only one to notice that the team's dynamic is falling apart in the match against UK in the WABC arc, and was appalled when King Sadaharu told him to just let it be.

    King Sadaharu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6c1875d1_2b37_435c_8d46_91db41e72050.jpeg

The coach of the Japan Representative, a legendary athlete titled "King of Baseball". His character is almost based on the former baseball player Sadaharu Ou. His special batting is the Flamingo-Style Batting.

  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Remember, this man is just visibly ripped, not robot or anything. His method to practice the Flamingo-Style Batting? Cutting down gigantic natural stone pillars with just a small sword (albeit an incredibly sharp one).
  • Living Legend: He’s regarded as the greatest baseball player Japan ever has to offer, the subject of respect and admiration of anyone he meets, as well as the inspiration of Kuro, Hiroshi, and even Aimond.
  • The Mentor: Takes it personally to train Kuroemon for a time during the WABC arc.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He knows damn well what he is doing, and is willing to leave the team’s dynamic at risk of falling apart if it means they can mature through it.
  • Red Baron: If anything, you should not doubt the skill of someone who’s freaking titled "King of Baseball".
  • Retired Badass: He has stopped playing baseball for a time, but is still the same legend on the field as soon as he grabs his bat.
  • Signature Move: The Flamingo-Style Batting, which Kuro and Hiroshi used to imitate a lot when they were young.

America Representative

    Spider

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/00215950_983e_43e9_8c16_31283da282d3.jpeg

Position: Pitcher, Right Fielder (whenever Kuroemon is the batter)
Jacket number: 1

A very tall player, all of his pitches are as if they are thrown from the top of a building. He also has a considerable defensive skills since he can climb the fence easily.

  • Expy: Of all people possible, his character is based on Spider-Man.
  • The Faceless: He always wears those spider mask, even when snapping down tons of burgers.

Football Club Canaria

    Ronaemon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/babf312f_0f4c_4f95_a89c_63a16ca2a751.jpeg

A Brazilian player, captain of the Brazilian Football Club Canaria. He uses the fake name "Noraemon" to play football with Edogawa Doras and Arakawa Whiters baseball players in a friendly football match. Yeah, you heard that right. The so-called "Mixed Baseball & soccer game".

  • All the Other Reindeer: Back when he was still in the professional team, he was isolated by the other members for scoring too many goals, hindering them from getting a higher payroll. This led him into being disillusioned with the professional world, causing him to quit and form his own soccer team.
  • Broken Ace: A well-adored soccer juggernaut. Also has a case of All the Other Reindeer and Tall Poppy Syndrome.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Is The Gadfly and generally pretty easygoing. Also a professional soccer player who was able to score lots of goals, and proved to be a dangerous opponent for Dora's in the mixed soccer-baseball match.
  • The Gadfly: Enjoys teasing his opponents and cracking jokes on them.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: His character is based on Ronaldinho, a professional Brazilian and AC Milan football player.
  • Only in It for the Money: Averted. As opposed to his teammates, Rona is extremely good at scoring goals because he loves soccer and could care less about the money he gets from scoring them. Unfortunately, this leads to him getting isolated by his old team as they aimed to seek a higher payroll, and Rona's talents hinders them from doing so.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Unless the situation gets truly intense, Rona never stops smiling and retains his laid-back attitude for the majority.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: One of the reasons he was shunned from his old professional team. He's just simply too good at scoring goals to the point other members grew jealous of him due to the higher paycheck he got.

Iriomote Mangroves

    Iriemon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e2d6d9f6_910b_44f6_9602_52cb95a2923e.jpeg

Position: Third baseman
Jacket number: 5

A player of the Iriomote Mangroves. Has a very sharp vision.

  • Super-Senses: Has what can be bothered on Microscopic Vision, as he can see a piece of macadam from the other side of the field. He uses this to his advantage by guessing what kind of ball Hiroshi will pitch and signaling it to his teammates.
  • The Stoic: He is very calm and composed.

Yamaoku Yama Temple

    Monta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c19afcc1_d65a_45ea_b6cc_e0557326eb6d.jpeg

Position: Pitcher
Jacket number: 1

The ill-temper pitcher of the Yamagata-based Yamaoku Yamadera team with a violence record, resulting in him being sent to a temple for reformation. After his return, he became the ace of his team and made a record of 63 pitches in a match, all fastball, all strike out. He's looking forward to facing the Doras and Whiters.

  • The Ace: Of his team. He was the reason why they constantly win matches despite his general attitude, and they were on the losing side when Monta was out of commission during the match against Takasaki Cannons.
  • Berserk Button: Transformed balls serve as one for him, as they remind him of his late friend Benkei and his horrible mistake.
  • Broken Ace: He’s no doubt a very skilled pitcher, but the death of his best friend hit him so hard he practically threw away his future out of grief.
  • Boring, but Practical: Compared to the other ace pitchers in the series, his pitching style is relatively plain with all of them being extremely fast straights. However, he still manages to wreck his opponents just as much as the others do.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Monta might be Hot-Blooded to the point of bordering being a violent majority of time, but even he couldn't stand Doranosuke and the Great Doras' callous, victory-obsessed and power-hungry attitude. He even temporarily joined and sided with Doras in the match, helping them make a comeback against Great Doras.
  • Freudian Excuse: Five years before the current timeline, Monta broke the promise he made with his best friend Benkei to throw all but straights in his last match against him. This led to their friendship being strained as they stopped interacting with each other, and by the time Monta had the chance to do a rematch against Benkei, it turns out the latter had died in a traffic accident. The player who replaced Benkei then insulted the late robot to Monta's face, which caused Monta to punch him out of anger, leading him to get isolated in a temple.
  • Hachimaki: Sports an iconic one one after he returns to the baseball field. When he gets violent, his monk uses it as a weapon to tie and restrain him by chanting a specific mantra.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: An unfortunate side effect of being so hot-blooded— it's also very easy to set him off as a result. Tellingly his monk had to restrain him quite a lot using his hachimaki because of this.
  • Hot-Blooded: Even moreso than the resident walking boiling pot of blood (or oil, whatever the liquid) Hyoro. When he and Hyoro meet each other, they, very expectedly, almost burst into violence.
  • Jerkass: At his first appearance. He is very easy to anger and prone to starting fights with his teammates or opponents alike, even borderline engaging them in a violent brawl and would have done so if it wasn't for his monk restraining him.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Matures into this in the later volumes, as he learns to control his temper and becomes more mature and respectful to his teammates. Tellingly he doesn't get mad at his teammates even after they lost the National Japan tournament to Arakawa Whiters, instead telling them he's happy to play with them.
