General

    God
A comedic incarnation of the Judeo-Christian God, interpreted as kind of an idiot.
  • Abusive Parents: He sees his own son, Jesus, as a complete nuisance at best, and a pawn/tool he can use in his plans at worst, often at the expense of his well-being.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Tends to flip out or be upset at anyone who points out what he's doing is a bad idea.
  • Everybody Calls Him "Barkeep": His actual name is Yahweh, but most just call him God.
  • Hypocrite
    • Doesn't like atheists, yet as Jeffrey pointed out since he doesn't believe he has a creator he's an atheist by default. In one episode he decides to let atheists into Heaven because of that, only to get chided for his behavior.
    • Mocks a scientist for his botched attempt at playing God with robots due to them disobeying him with their free will...just like how humans disobey him.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: God is obsessed with worship and getting his ego stroked, but when Jeffrey manages to break down his logic he's usually reduced to tears.
  • Jerkass Gods: Not outright maltheistic as he's rarely intentionally cruel, God is still an egocentric, callous fool who's desire for worship is depicted as being petty.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Claims that he's omniscient but he's terrible at making coherently designed things and makes big steps in logic.
  • Obliviously Evil: Despite the criticism against his actions God is rarely depicted as intentionally malevolent, but ignorant that his actions are more harmful than anything because he's God.
  • Odd Job God: In "God of the Paradox" he was supposed to be the god of pastries (his major was Culinary Arts)
  • Omniscient Morality License: In-universe, he uses this trope to justify whatever stupid and/or immoral things he does. The videos tend to call out this trope as a poor excuse for illogical/immoral actions.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: A grumpy, violent Grandpa God who unlike most characters has red eyes.
  • Sadist: He gets pleasure from peoples' suffering very often.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: He will often fail to see the true meaning behind Jeffrey's sarcastic remarks.

    Jeffrey
An angel who often tags along with God and puts up with his antics. Tends to be the more rational of the two.

Power Corrupts

    Yahweh Jehovah
The main character of the series.
  • Abusive Parents: His father is quite verbally cruel to him and treats him like a disappointment. Even if he's being amicable, he would teach him his corrupt ways of running a business.
  • A God Am I: He gets struck with a god complex the moment he's uploaded to the simulation, and things become From Bad to Worse when remembering the real world.
  • Big Brother Bully: In the first episode, he takes his younger sibling's rattle and throws it across the room after being sick of hearing it and taking his anger out from Joseph's verbal abuse.
  • Brain Uploading: In the first episode, he is uploaded to a simulation he has control over to test if he can have power without it corrupting him. In episode 9 he uses this to take over the world with all the systems and robots under his control, though this is subverted as part of a Batman Gambit to trick Jeffrey.
  • The Bully: He starts like this in his Establishing Character Moment, forcing a classmate to pay him for protection from him.
  • The Chain of Harm: Yahweh is often verbally abused by his father and is often taught by Joseph to manipulate others first or they will manipulate him. As a result, Yahweh becomes a bully to his infant brother and extorts money from a fellow student as seen in the first episode. Consequently, Joseph's abuse and corrupt business teachings would subtly influence Yahweh's current identity as God in his simulated test and once he remembers the real world from Lucy's attempts to sabotage his test, he dips into the Jerkass Gods territory.
  • Evil Is Petty: Extremely petty, as evidenced by his desire to torture Lucy because of an old grudge.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: A Double Subversion. Yahweh goes from a school bully and the firstborn son of a CEO to a virtual dictator holding nearly the entire world in his grip. Even when the takeover is revealed as just another part of the simulation to fool Jeffery, Yahweh still would've gained power in the real world if Jeffery and Lucy didn't stop him from cheating on the test and later when he, after going through a Heel–Face Turn, refuses to accept a do-over from the professor.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He changes his ways in the final episode, making amends to the student he bullied in episode 1 and turning down his chance to retake his placement test, acknowledging that he failed it under fair circumstances. He also treated his baby sibling much more kindly by picking up their rattle.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He traps Jeffrey into prison for over 60 years to fool him of his true simulation, and is now on the receiving end of it in episode 18.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • He turns Lucy into Satan and banishes her from heaven as an elaborate form of Engineered Heroics.
    • He tricks Jeffrey into believing that the "upper layer" of Yahweh's simulation is the real world and keeps this deception up for over sixty years.
  • Meaningful Name: Yahweh Jehovah are names attributed to the Judeo-Christian God of The Bible, and Yahweh displays both the positive and negative perceptions of Him throughout the entire Power Corrupts series.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes are red/amber and he's the Villain Protagonist.
  • Smarter Than They Look: He looks and often acts like dumb bully, and most of the time he is, but he has proven to be a truly cunning individual, tricking even Jeffrey. He is also skilled in business tactics, though that's to be expected as his father Joseph is a businessman.
  • Two First Names: Played with as his first and last names are one of the many names for the Judeo-Christian God of The Bible.
  • Villain Protagonist: He's technically the protagonist of the series, as the entire test is to see if he's worthy of being a leader or a follower.
  • Virtual-Reality Warper: As part of his simulated test, he's the all-powerful and all-mighty God capable of doing anything in the virtual world. Once he remembers the real world through Lucy's attempted sabotage, Yahweh takes this trope to more horrifying levels.

    Jeffrey
  • And I Must Scream: He spends over 60 years being trapped in a fake simulated universe created by Yahweh to distract him from his real simulation.
  • Antichrist: After discovering Yahweh's plan of creating a utopia to gain power in the real world, he reluctantly swears to assume the mantle of the Antichrist and destroy the simulated planet.
  • Bully Hunter: His first appearance has him pulling Yahweh off from extorting a fellow student.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He's introduced paying off a debt to Yahweh on behalf of a classmate and then telling said classmate not to worry about paying him back, showing him to be a Nice Guy who sticks up for others.
  • Gentle Giant: He's a very tall athlete and a Nice Guy.
  • Hero Antagonist: Once Yahweh starts taking over the simulation to cheat on his test, Jeffery is on a mission to stop it.
  • Lovable Jock: He looks like a stereotypical jock but has the personality of Nice Guy.
  • Meaningful Name: Jeffery means "peace" in German. He's a Nice Guy who tries to stir Yahweh into making good decisions and is one of the many people who advocated for the rights of A.I.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His warning to Yahweh of Lucy's true nature and previous guidance pave the way for a lot of problems, especially when Yahweh remembers the real world.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He doesn't like the idea of ruining Yahweh's simulated utopia, but he is willing to carry on such a plan if there is no other way to save the real world.
